  1. The Nationals just traded for Alcides Escobar, so players like Arcia do have value. Frankly, it was his defense that lead to the Brewers moving on. Players like Andrelton Simmons have made nice careers in the major league being impact defenders at shortstop with limited offensive prowess.
  2. Thames and Carter were both lost cost signings as was claiming Vogelbach. The Brewers drafts and big free agent expenditures mostly focus on up the middle athletes like Bradley and Cain. I just don't see Stearns being willing to pay a high price for a player like Gallo but we will see soon enough. The "high price" is a good point. With a year of team control remaining and Texas being in a full scale rebuild, they can demand a pricey return for Gallo, and simply hang on to him until next year if they are not blown away by what they're offered.
  3. Yelich's OPS is all based on his extremely high walk percentage which probably is unsustainable if he continues to slug below .400. I don't know what is going on with him but his mechanics look completely messed up; he seems to not be bending his front knee properly which might mean he never recovered from fouling the ball off the knee. It was a fracture of his knee cap which healed on its own without surgery. At worst he would have had to wear a locked brace on his leg for 6 weeks. Yelich is still a good baserunner, and is never described as "lumbering" which one would expect if there were any lingering issues. His fractured patella has nothing to do with his current performance. Rather, take a look at Yelich's career line before he was traded to Milwaukee .290/.365/.406. Since the end of 2019 his OBP is .379 and his Slugging is .410 right in line with his Miami numbers. It just might be who he is: high on-base percentage, and more of a doubles/triples hitter than a player who will regularly stroke 35+ homeruns a year. His production in 2018 and 2019 certainly appear to be outliers and likely will be the two best of his career.
  4. Any surprise it’s not such a cake walk in July as it was in June playing primarily losing teams
  5. That Jerry Hairston Jr. trade ended up being low-key pretty solid. Closest in-season “veteran presence” position player acquisitions they’ve made during Stearns tenure are Neil Walker and Curtis Granderson. Both of those worked out well, but if they are going to add a veteran hitter to this current roster I think it would need to be someone that maintains positional flexibility because their roster spot would likely replace someone like Daniel Robertson. Asdrubal Cabrera? .241/.343/.400 plays 1B, 2B, 3B and SS. Would be an excellent depth piece and has a ring and over 100 at bats in the post season
  6. Everyone is available for the right price, given Rogers team remaining team control and skill at pitching, Milwaukee would likely find the price unpalatable.
  7. Looks like he’s going back to the DL. Too bad they’ve only had him for 7 weeks or so this season.
  8. You can't teach velocity: Bobby Wahl 95.4 average MPH on the fastball Bickford 93.5 Jimmy Nelson 94.1 Corey Knebel 96.8 Also going to the Rays Feyereisen 93.6 Rasmussen 97.6 The Brewers have done a good job under the current front office in acquiring/finding high velocity pitchers and mostly shying away from the finesse type pitchers.
  9. Richards now has 19 innings with the Brewers, the same amount Feyereisen had when traded. RICHARDS 19 IP 15 H 9 BB 24 K 3 HR 1.26 WHIP FEYEREISEN: 19.1 IP 10 H 11 BB 20 K 2 HR 1.10 WHIP It's almost a carbon copy, although Feyereisen has been used in more high leverage situations with the Rays.
  10. The Brewers (while not the only ones) have gotten pretty deep into the deferment game. 1.8 million to Braun until 2031 1 million to Cain from 2023 to 2027 2.3 million to Yelich from 2031 to 2042 5 million to Wong between 2023 and 2024 18 million to JBJ (assuming he exercises his player option) between 2023 and 2025
  11. Interesting going forward when Wong is healthy. Peterson deserves to play, Urias deserves to play, Hiura has been better, JBJ has started to swing the bat in this series, who goes to the bench?
  12. How many mound visits do the Cubs have left? It seems like they've been out there every few batters.
  13. Yes, it does make a difference. If the Brewers win today and lose tomorrow, they are either 5 or 6 games up. If they lose today and win tomorrow, they are either 4 or 5 games up. Today's game counts twice as much in the standings (assuming Pittsburgh is not a threat to win the division). But this is all speculation whether the Cubs will be a threat to win the division or not. With Baez, Rizzo, Bryant heading into free agency and Kimbrel with a 16 million club option for 2022, the Cubs have 30 days to decide if they are in or out, because they simply are not going to let those three (probably four) players walk with no compensation. To that end, one game in the standings isn't going to make the Cubs buyers, or stand pat as opposed to selling.
  14. Well the good news is, Davies went four innings last night, Arrieta threw 30+ pitches in the first. The Brewers should get into the Cubs bullpen again
  15. Corbin Burnes innings pitched by year as a pro: 2016 35 innings (plus an additional 102 in college pre-draft) 2017 145 innings 2018 116 innings 2019 71 innings 2020 59 innings 2021 74 innings already. With Burnes never pitching 150 innings in any calendar year to date, people expecting him to go beyond that this year will probably be disappointed.
  16. I suspect you will be highly critical next year when the Big Three all have arm injuries because the manager rode them particularly hard in 2021.
  17. The only real downside is they DFA'd Wahl to bring up Ashby, and now they'll need to shuffle the deck for some fresh arms, meaning they DFA'd Wahl for 2/3 of an inning from Ashby
  18. But is it? They started him with no expectations he would work deep into the game, in a day game after a night game, when they already took two of three from the 2nd place team in their division. Be it nerves or not being quite ready for primetime against major league pitchers, he didn't pitch well.
  19. Brewers will take 2 out of 3 and probably get outscored in the series at this rate.
  20. His second year in Philadelphia he wasn't any good and ended up needing elbow surgery in August. His control and strike out ability are pretty much still at his career averages, however he gives up more hits now and substantially more homeruns (including a whopping 10 homeruns in 42 innings on the road this year).
  21. Like asking to get beat, falling behind hitter after hitter
  22. I'm not 100% sure the Brewers won't be interested in bringing Garcia back... Agreed, as what is ostensibly a 10 million dollar club option for 2022, I assume they’ll bring him back for a 3rd year unless he collapses in the 2nd half
  23. Is Tim O’Driscoll the worst scorer in the league? He takes a double away from Peterson to give Heyward an error when Heyward never had the ball.
  24. Marlins are starting to shed payroll, sending Corey Dickerson and Adam Cimber to Toronto for Joe Panik and a pitcher in AA.
  25. The Marlins have just started breaking up their team by shedding payroll sending Adam Cimber (925K) and Corey Dickerson (8.5 million) to Toronto for Joe Panik (1.85 million) and low level minor league pitcher Andrew McInvale. Even though Hiura has had a few nice games, now is probably the time to make a move for Jesus if they're interested.
