I really don't understand the Antoine Kelly thing; Is this a case of rose colored glasses for Brewer prospects? Because as I see it, Kelly had a power arm but was a 2nd round pick (not that its a bad thing, but it indicates what the front offices thought his chance of making the majors were when he turned pro); and to date he has 3 innings above Rookie ball. Now from all accounts the team's brass raved how he was he was taught how to throw secondary pitches, and then refined those secondary pitches at the alternate training site last summer. However, after summer camp in 2020, he developed thoracic outlet syndrome and had big time surgery as a result. Thoracic outlet syndrome has been actually or effectively a career ender for a significant amount of pitchers who have had it: Chris Carpenter '11, Shaun Marcum '13, Josh Beckett '13, Tyson Ross '15, Mike Adams '12, Tyler Thornburg '17, Matt Harvey '18, Phil Hughes '16, Chris Archer(?) and certainly a greater number than the ones who have managed to make it back. Without a doubt the surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome has a far lower success rate than Tommy John surgery. It would be a great story for Antoine Kelly to power through his injuries and make it to the majors and find success there. Unfortunately, as a 2nd round pick, who hasn't really pitched yet outside of instructional leagues, and has already suffered a devastating shoulder injury, the odds are stacked against him to even get to the majors. Other teams know this, and that is why his value in any trade is nill. I would argue that since the Brewers have a million dollar bonus invested in him, he is more valuable to them than to any other team because they may not show the same patience as Milwaukke because they don't have a million dollars invested in the guy.

The point remains, let’s see some trade proposals without first denigrating the target player in order to justify acquiring them for crap.

Moustakas got 11 million and when they declined their half of his mutual option he got another 3 for a total of 14, at least that’s what the websites say look it up. I don’t even think the Pirates will trade Moran in the first place, but the bottom line is he has a career .750+ OPS and plays corner infield and is under team control for 2022 and 2023. When a .750 OPS is going to cost you 10+ million AAV on the free agent market, you can bank on it Moran has significant value. Not a guy you build around per se, but like Avi Garcia a capable player.

Just because a team unwisely overpaid someone for production doesn't mean that other teams also need to do so for an unrelated player.... Says you. Look around the league it's not 2004 any more. Any type of every day starting player in the major leagues in making 7-10 million. Heck, Moustakas got 14 million from the Brewers for 2019. It's the reality, if a team is looking to sign players for their starting lineup for less, they're shopping in the bargain bin of older veterans, players coming off major injuries, etc. Thus, the fact Moran is making 2.8 million for the Pirates and has two more passes through arbitration makes him incredibly valuable. If Moran was a free agent right now he'd be looking for 4 times as much or more per year.

Brewers 3B have posted an 87 wRC+ so far this year, Brewers 1B are at 79 wRC+. Colin Moran is both "just a guy" and would also represent an upgrade with a 114 wRC+ so far this year & a 107 wRC+ ZiPS projection for the rest of the season. ...and Moran’s career OPS is higher than that of Mike Moustakas (a 16 million dollar a year player). There’s a similarity to all of these proposals: identify a target that can help the team, then denigrate the target player so it makes sense to propose acquiring them for garbage. I’m sure Moran is available but with him not being a free agent until after 2022 he’s not likely going to be traded this year absent a killer offer and certainly not for a pile of crap from Milwaukee

I’ve said this before; you can’t have it both ways. If Moran is ‘just a guy’ why would the Brewers need him. Save the resources and just play what you’ve got at 3B or 1B. You also have to consider even middling free agents are being paid 7-10 million per year in the majors in 2021. This productive players like Aguilar and Bell have quite a bit of value because they have additional team control beyond 2021 and at affordable rates, and for that same reason the Nationals and Marlins don’t need to move them unless they get some nice talent in return. As for Kelly, nobody is undervaluing him. He’s a 2nd round, rookie ball pitcher with one game in A ball, who underwent surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome (a frequent career ended.... Tyler Thornburg amongst others), and he hasn’t pitched yet. What exactly would a competent GM give for that? Turang is a Top 100 prospect but he’s a middle infielder not a starting pitcher or elite hitting prospect, who’s years away. Nice prospect but no sure thing.

Antoine Kelly would not have the value you think he has. First, he had a major surgical procedure on his throwing shoulder last fall and will miss most if not all of 2021, he has yet to really pitch above Rookie ball, and the next time he throws in a game it would be his first time since August of 2019. No GM is going to trade a cost controlled major league player for Antoine Kelly. I'm not sure the Brewers could get any of the players you mention above for Turang alone.

I'm sure they'd deal him today if they could get Garret Mitchell or Ethan Small. Otherwise, they may as well hang on to him until the end of July to make sure they maximize their return before cashing him in.

The potentially available 1B options in order of likely availability (from most available to least available): CJ Cron Jesus Aguilar Colin Moran Josh Bell Carlos Santana Trey Mancini A couple of wild cards are Joey Gallo who is likely available for a semi-steep price and plays primarily OF but can play 1B, and Jeimer Candelario who can play both 3B and 1B. Let's be realistic: Jesus Aguilar, Colin Moran, Trey Mancini, Josh Bell, Joey Gallo and Candalerio come with additional team control beyond 2021, therefore it will definitely be a seller's market for those players if their current teams decide to move them at all this year. As for Carlos Santana, comes with a 10.5 million dollar guarantee for 2022 and given his production the Royals aren't likely desperate to move him, or willing to eat cash to do so. Which probably makes it less likely he would be a trade target for Milwaukee (not to mention if Hiura somehow manages to 'find' it he wouldn't have an everyday spot with Milwaukee until 2023). That really leaves Cron who is okay, but as one of the few true "rentals" who hits for power and plays first base, I imagine there will be substantial interest.

Seems like a no brainer to me and I don't think he would cost THAT much. Would immediately solve your 1B issues. Of course, it takes two teams to tango but the Marlins are going nowhere and might as well get something for him while he has value. Wait a second, Aguilar has another year of team control so the Marlins don't have to move him, so they hold all the leverage and can demand premium talent in return. Thus, I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a reunion with Jesus. Secondly, as others have alluded to, the Marlins pitching is actually superior to the Brewers and their offense is 14 runs worse than Milwaukee's. The Marlins have had some bad luck this year, but I wouldn't say they're going nowhere. Their Division is a DeGrom injury away from being wide open.

The problem with Mancini is, he's a really good player (.275/.336/.485) with team control through 2022. The Orioles don't have to trade him in July, so the question becomes can the Brewers put together an enticing package to pry him away now. FWIW, the pundits rank their farm system as one of the better ones in baseball, and they have 5 of MLBs top 100 prospects. These facts make it very unlikely they would deal Mancini just add some middling talent to their system, rather they would most likely want premium talent in return. The Brewers have already traded away most of the premium talent they had in their system, and you can argue that what premium talent remains: Mitchell, Small, Ashby, Turang is more valuable to Milwaukee than a season and a half of Mancini would be.

No, they have Fisher as the 4th outfielder and he's out of options. They also will need arms from the minor leagues after riding Suter hard in Colorado and covering 6+ innings with their bullpen last night. I would guess Yardley up with Anderson to IL, then Milner is optioned and Bettinger comes up to give them some length.
