  1. Anderson sure has gone from a guy who was left off the playoff rosters, bumped from the rotation to a guy whonlilely has punched his ticket to the rotation next year by being uber consistent in 2019.
  2. I'm with J.M.B. on this one. Stearns has a tendency to like his pitching better than others do, and that seems to be the case with Wilkerson. In the major leagues he doesn't miss enough bats, struggles with command and keeping the ball in the ballpark. Injuries and ineffectiveness have eroded away enough depth that he keeps getting chances at the MLB level, which isn't a good thing.
  3. Now hopefully the Brewers can get some luck and have the Nationals, Phillies, Cubs and Cardinals all lose
  4. Is the book out on Hader? Went from blowing everyone away to constantly laboring and giving up lots of hard contact
  5. In 2019 the Brewers have 271 innings pitched by players with ERAs over 5.00
  6. Reds now have three former first round picks in their rotation
  7. Knee inflammation. With Contreras and Kimbrel both down, helps even the talent gap
  8. 9 wins The number of wins the Brewers have this season in games where one of their batters did not hit a homerun. More interesting, the Brewers had just two wins in July in games where they didn't homer. Which was also their first losing month of the season. 41-12 The Brewers record in games where they have scored 5 runs or more. 11-39 The Brewers record in games where their pitchers have allowed 5 or more runs. Without comparing their results to other teams it is difficult to conclude they are over reliant on home runs to win. However in their worst month of July two big homerun hitters tapered off considerably with Moustakas hitting three homers, and Grandal with one, Not sure what conclusions can be drawn from their record when scoring 5 runs or giving up 5 runs, but can be used as a prognosticator for when to turn the game off or keep listening/watching.
  9. I think if you read all the quotes from Stearns, he believes they can work with Black to cut down the walks (118 as a professional against 187 innings) as well as the home runs allowed. Unless they're totally punting on 2019, I would expect they will do that in the minor leagues and call him up either when he shows improvement, or in September when rosters expand.
  10. They need at least two Starting Pitchers. Quality ones with proven track records of pitching successfully in the major leagues. The problem is how you get them. On the surface it doesn’t appear the Brewers have the minor league talent needed to acquire starting pitching. They’re not going to hand out 20+ free agent contracts. Which leaves them with two sub-optimal choices. 1.) trade from the major league roster to get pitching (Hiura, Grisham, Hader) 2.) Sign some middle tier starting pitchers as free agents and hope to catch lightning in a bottle. Such is the bane for a franchise that drafted poorly for a decade and failed to develop much home grown pitching for a generation.
  11. 5IP, 5ER. Gave up a grand slam in the 2nd inning against CHW
  12. Because as Stearns smugly put it last year. “We like our pitching more than most”. They marginally sold at the deadline. Trading from their major league team for a minor league player. As for Dubon, Stearns was just quoted as saying they view Black as having premium stuff. In that context they got a lot for Dubon a player with questionable offensive upside at the MLB level. A reliever with premium stuff and another left handed reliever
  13. I guess we can conclude the Brewers’ talent evaluators weren’t enamored with Dubon’s hit tool, so they swapped him off while he still has a lot of “prospect buzz” about him. But the Giants must not be convinced he can play either which explains the return of basically of rental left handed pitching and a front major league with excellent velocity
  14. Of course the front office knows they didn’t have enough to get it done. That is why they actually sold at the deadline, trading away major league players for minor leaguers for next year. Faria isn’t helping them this year, but the fact their GM traded the right handed part of their first base platoon away tells you what they thought of their chances this year. They also must have concluded Dubon won’t amount to anything at the major league level so they unloaded him for 25 innings of Pomeranz and a 29 year old AAAA arm.
  15. Can’t believe people are dogging Cain. His defense is just fine, he played through a hand injury as a result his bat suffered in May and June before getting injection. If he went on the DL for 2 months people would be dogging him for being injury prone.
  16. The brewers were never mike Tyson. More of like a Trevor berbick More like someone who cuts one on a windy day. Momentarily noticed but gone in a flash.
  17. What do you want me to say exactly? My opinion is they are finished for 2019. (Sub-opinion they’ll end up with a losing record). I’ve always liked sports telecasts on the radio. I first remember listening to the majority of the games on the radio in 1990 because I can recall Dave Parker being on the Brewers. I possibly got into Brewers baseball on the radio in 1989. I’ve listened to, watched on tv, or attended the majority of the games since 1989. In fact I’ve seen the Brewers play in SF, CIN, COL, SEA, MN, CHI-AL, CHI-NL, St.L, and PHI. So I’m not some pessimistic internet troll trying to push someone’s buttons. Point is for the 29 years I’ve been following they’ve been mostly been terrible. There’s always excuses and promises for a rosy tomorrow. However but for a handful of seasons they’ve always sucked and have struggled to string together winning seasons let alone compete for the post season. There’s been plenty of years where the Brewers looked great until about July then collapsed. All last year I expected the Brewers to collapse and blow it. Not only are the only team in the two wild card era to lead their division at the all star break and fail to make the playoffs, they’ve done it multiple times. So after finally breaking some long-standing Brewer traditions of futility in 2018, I thought this year was going to be different. Yet it is clear to me now based on my observations they’re done. Yes, magic could strike with a 20-10 month but over my 29 years that doesn’t happen in Milwaukee often.
  18. My beef is that the guys we have traded for are not being used. I mean, what was the point? It was a soft sell; trading major leaguers for prospects and quality for quantity for depth. See: Your Milwaukee Brewers ‘96-2000s
  19. LOL ... I thought you already wrote the obit? Gonna stick around to dance on the grave? Haha, Addiction issues since ‘89
  20. Madison’s job with the Cubs is at stake. In that context I’m sure he doesn’t care on iota about the Brewers besides being another division opponent. If the Cubs miss the playoffs he’s done. Hell, short of making the NLCS he’s likely finished in Chicago. Four of the premier hitters in the NL, and a 100 million dollar rotation. Could rival the Brewers for biggest disappointment
  21. For a season that started with heightened expectations and promising play; I think it’s fair to write the eulogy for the 2019 team; one that will rival 2014 in terms of disappointment. The roster never gelled with hitting and pitching working at the same time. Multiple players in season long slumps and never having more than one hitter hot at a single time. The facts are they’ve played great against the Pirates and have played losing baseball against everyone else. The front office sensed it, swapping of Aguilar and Dubon for a pitcher with an ERA over 6.00 and two minor league pitchers. While they still have a mathematical chance at the post season. I think we can close the books on them being a serious contender for the post season at this point
  22. As this game gets away from the Brewers I sure hope they go to at least one or more pitchers on their pen so everybody is nice and fresh for the Cubs series
