  1. Can you really have a "demise" when you were never good to begin with. Seriously, the Bucks have been bad since about 1992. Sure they had a moment in the sun with the Big Three, but that is actually more like the meat in a crap sandwich.
  2. http://www.petitionspot.com/uploads/9634-jesus-thread-sucks.gif They've been dating SIX weeks, what is this guy expecting from someone he has dated for SIX weeks?!?!?
  3. Youman, Simontachi, Robinson Tejada, and now Tim Redding. This is shaping up to be yet another game, when a fringe major league arm shuts the Brewers offense down. Consistently dropping games against teams #5 starters is going to come back to bite the Brewers eventually.
  4. Yet again the Brewers get shut down by a pitcher whose ERA is absolutely atrocious.
  5. The Cubs success since early June can be traced to the fact that their hitters 1-6 all batted well over .300 in June Soriano: .336 in June, career .305 hitter Fontenot .397 in June Lee: .320 in June, career .280 hitter Ramierez: .375 in June, career .281 hitter DeRosa .337 in June, career .285 hitter Floyd .292 in June, career .279 hitter IF the Brewers 1-5 hitter would all hit .320 or better for a month they probably would rack up the wins lick nobody's business. Then figure if an aging vet like Jenkins got hot for a month like Floyd the sky would really be the limit. The bottom line is that the Cubs will come back to earth because there is no way their first five hitters continue to mash the ball the way they did in June.
  6. Griffey has already said on record that Milwaukee is a boring city, that he doesn't look forward to travelling to. Since he has the no trade clause, my guess is the Brewers could offer the moon and stars and Griffey still would nix the deal. Millar is essentially a 1B/DH, where would he play?
  7. I would argue that Carlos Villanueva is the first half MVP. 6 wins, 13 holds, and a crucial spot start (and win) against Detroit which turned around what could have been a demoralizing road trip after dropping 2 of 3 in Texas, and then being no-hit by Verlander. If the Cubs can hold on until September, the 2nd half will be very interesting as the Brewers end with St. Louis, Atlanta and SD, while the Cubs end with Pittsburgh, Florida, and Cincinnati
  8. What disappoints me is that Weeks, (like another former big leaguer who was a huge prospect and ended up signing a 3/21 million dollar deal with the Brewers) seems to start playing well, and then he gets hurt. It is certainly too early to write him off as a bust, because he has yet to play even 162 games at full strength. That being said, he is starting to get passed by other players in his draft class who were selected later and are solid contributors to their teams: Billingsley, C. Cordero, Conor Jackson, even arguably John Danks and Aaron Hill because they have been healthy. Which only means perhaps he was slightly overrated coming out of college due to his big numbers against soft competition, and his fundamentals weren't scrutinized as closely. Not being on the scouting staff, I guess we will never know.
  9. How come when Turnbow comes in with no margin of error he throws nothing but strikes, but when he comes in with nobody on and a slight lead his pitches are all over?
  10. http://webpages.acs.ttu.edu/charshey/pics/ThisThreadSucks.jpg Seriously though, who is going to trade anything for Vargas? He isn't anything more than mediocre, and his salary is only going to increase from 2.5 million as he enters his last years of arbitration.
  11. Linkage It seems every year some dope GM is willing to bail Hendry out of one of his mistakes. Last year, Detroit took Neifi Perez's multi year deal of the Cubs' hands, now it is Beinfest stepping up to take Jacque Jones and his multi-year deal out of Chicago. I realize the Cubs are probably still paying for those contracts, but it irritates that other teams help them solve their roster crunch. EDIT: Title. -PF
  12. Ok here they are: Joel Peralta--RP--K.C. Peralta has a 3.62 era in the AL, a WHIP of 1.15, with 8.1 K/9, 2 BB/9, and a K:BB of 4:1. Spurling is OK for now, but I imagine his ERA will begin to ramp up to even out with his WHIP. Peralta would be a better middle inning righty than Spurling, and is more consistent than Capellan. The only problem is that while 31 years old Peralta hasn't become arbitration eligible yet, so while he is effective and cheap K.C. doesn't have a huge reason to move him. Perhaps they could be enticed with a couple of aging prospects like Laynce Nix and Zach Jackson, with a Brad Nelson thrown in. Damaso Marte--RP--Pitt. 1.96 era with a 1.13 WHIP, 10K/9, 4BB/9, K:BB of 2.5:1. Holding lefties to .108/.215/.108. Also, with a .255/.333/.404 mark against righties, he has been no worse than Shouse. The only problem with Marte is he has a contract for 2008 paying him 2 million dollars, and a 250K buyout on his 2009 option. Again, Marte would be a good pick up for Milwaukee, but I don't know if Pittsburgh would be motivated to move him. However, with their limited offense, they may have a use for Kevin Mench or Gabe Gross. Aaron Boone--1B/3B-Fla. Boone has a decent OPS of .811 (.286/.388/.423), he has played both third and first this year for Florida. He has a .308 average this year pinch hitting. He could provide extra insurance at the corners, and could spell Fielder and Braun down the stretch to ensure that they do not wear down. Offensively he brings more to the table than either Counsell or Graffanino, and he is only signed through '07 so there are no long term financial concerns. I suppose Boone will be targeted by several teams at the deadline, and is probably not worth more to the Brewers than a Sarfate and some other lower level minor leaguer.
  13. According to the Oracle: Cecil Fielder played with David Bell on the 1998 Cleveland Indians David Bell then played with Prince Fielder on the 2006 Brewers. Wow.
  14. Yeah, Byrnes' .872 OPS this year puts him behind 3-4 of Milwaukee's outfielders? Not hardly. Byrnes is in a contract year and you are seeing the resuts. Hitting for average (.312), drawing walks (.370 OBP) hitting for power (.502 Slg. ), and stealing bases (12). Byrnes would be an upgrade over Jenkins in every possible way. The problem is Arizona is 37-30 sitting one game out of the Wild Card, they are not going to be looking to deal a bat down the stretch, as much as they will be looking to add one. In other words, like Linebrink, Byrnes is going nowhere.
  15. This is the year the Brewers were supposed to compete, the one in which they have been promising to their fans for 10 years. If they continue to slide, how long before Yost gets axed, especially in the most winnable division? Seriously, is Doug going to let the whole thing slip away, or will he fire Yost, and attempt to circle the wagons with a new skipper?
  16. Did this team shoot it's wad in April or what? They've dropped their last five series, (and with Smoltz going for Atlanta, and possibly no Sheets it is going to be 6 straight series), haven't won back to back games in over a week. It looks like the German army after Stalingrad, they're just waiting for someone to come along and put them out of their misery. Seriously, Chuck James isn't even a strikeout pitcher, and he punches out 8 in only six innings. That folks is a sign of a team that simply isn't ready for primetime.
  17. Curt Leskanic is 6'0" and played listed at 180lbs.
  18. Certainly, the Nats have no real starting pitching, however Kearns, Lopez, Nick Johnson, Zimmerman, and Church are solid players either in their prime or with room to improve. Plus, Escobar, and Snelling are interesting players that could still blossom into above average players. With a potent lineup I can see them winning 68+ games, especially if they can deal Chad Cordero at the deadline for a young arm or two.
  19. Todays Tribune mentions that the Sox have no room for Mackowiak and could deal him. Also that the Brewers could be interested in Mackowiak for his ability to play at 2nd and 3rd. The author then mentions Clark in a possible trade, but adds that the Sox already have Luis Terraro and Brian Anderson as backups in CF. The whole thing can just be the author's idea I suppose. LINK
  20. Keep in mind that the original series of "The Office" on the BBC was only 12 episodes long, and it ended. The NBC version is already pushing 30 episodes. The real question is how much material will the format provide. If the BBC version is any indicator the writers are probably already feeling the squeeze. Hence, the romance angle becomes necessary to provide further plot material. Otherwise, they will merely start reworking existing episodes and jokes. There are two alternatives to the romantic angle which are generally employed. First they could simply introduce new characters and dump some of the other ones (ie. ER, Happy Days, etc.), but NBC already has witnessed how that can run a dominant show (ratings wise) into mediocrity. The second option is to take the episodes out of what is plausible in the office setting and merely become a fantasy show. (ie. later episodes of Roseanne, Happy Days, The Simpsons, etc.).
  21. Probably a reason Bell only has 17 steals in 11 years in the majors http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif
  22. In June Blanco is batting .354 with 5 doubles 1 triple 3 homeruns and 13 rbi. That in one month is better than Moeller in a entire season.
  23. The season wasn't a month and a half old three weeks ago, wiseguy.
  24. Well it was a fun month and a half of the season while it lasted. With these pitchers by the time Sheets and Ohka come back (if ever) the Brewers will be buried at or near the bottom of the pile.
  25. I would like to know what gets into these otherwise mediocre ball players like Lew Ford that they come into Milwaukee and they steal bases at will nearly doubling their season total in two games. Then Baker a guy who in three previous starts this month had a 7+ ERA becomes the second coming of Roger Clemens? The true sign that the Brewers have taken the next step into the echelon of competing teams is when these mediocre clubs like the Twins come to town and get their ears pinned back, not when they come in and put on a school on how to win games.
