  1. How do you figure Peavey? The Brewers have lost every game Hendrickson has pitched in this year (Houston, @LA, @SD) being down four runs early doesn't make things look real good for tonight either. So the Brewers are more like 1-4 in games either Eveland or Hendrickson pitched.
  2. Seriously, it least the six runs were given up early the Brewers still have eight innings to chip away. Baker has been equally as bad for the Twins, and some of their better bullpen guys pitched last night and thus won't be able to pitch much today if at all.
  3. With 40% of the rotation consisting of Eveland and Hendrickson for the foreseeable future, I can forsee another 90 loss season come September.
  4. There are but two certainties in life, not death and taxes, but: 1.) Soft tossing Brewer pitchers who cannot find the zone. 2.) Undisciplined Brewer batters making it easy on a pitcher by swinging at everything. At least the Brewers took the first two in the series!
  5. Eveland=Designated Rotation Stooge I wish someone would tell Eveland and Hendrickson that they have to throw strikes and cannot expect to get major leaguers out by throwing junk out of the zone.
  6. Hendrickson's inability to get ahead of batters is going to punch his ticket back to AAA (and probably his ticket out of the organization as well). How can Hendrickson repeatedly fail to throw strikes to major league hitters until he is down 3-0 in the count?
  7. True, but it is much easier to be 5 games over .500 in July if you don't spend the majority of April, May, and June several games under .500.
  8. What are the odds that we see a position player mop this one up on the hill for the Reds? They have already used five pitchers today in addtion to 5 yesterday, and play 8 games in 9 days starting on Friday. Three innings to go.
  9. I would imagine it is a similar situation to football whereas when a player gets injured in training camp and isn't going to make the team, the two sides usually reach a injury settlement where the still injured player is given some cash and releases his right to sue the team. In the case of Erickson I would imagine the Brewers give him a lump sum payment and send him packing in exchange for not filing a claim against the team, labor grievance, workmen's comp. or otherwise.
  10. Definitely should platoon Magruder and Jenkins. Neither can hit, and Magruder can't play defense. Its perfect!
  11. While Spring Training is meaningless it has to be a little discomforting for Yost and company that as their every day lineup plays deeper and deeper into the games, the blowout losses start to pile up. Spivey and Lee are probably still a bit rusty but I would have expected the team to be playing better especially against a stiff like Aaron Sele.
  12. FYI Prior has not been allowed to throw more than 99 pitches in a start so far this year. Through one inning he is at 27, so Prior may not be around long.
  13. Maybe "working the count" is a bad choice of words but you can balme Ginter. It is critical he get a successful bunt down, and he has at least 3 pitches to work with. Instead of botching up the sacrafice on the first pitch, perhaps he could have taken the pitch and got a better bunt down on the next pitch.
  14. Way to see Ginter working the count with the game on the line.
  15. I got 5 bucks that says Bennett pours gas on the fire, and blows this one for the Brewers. It is just too bad that Bennett could not join Ford on the DL, as both are unreliable with the game on the line.
  16. It will be interesting to see if the Brewers can get anything done against Livan Hernandez. Much like Wade Miller, Livan Hernandez usually dominates the Brewers. Should be one of the better pitching duels this season, with the bullpens deciding this one.
  17. Anyone ever take a look at Jimmy Haynes' numbers against Milwaukee since he was given the boot, he turns into Wade Miller when he is facing the Brewers: 4-0, 25 inn. 3.23 era, 1.56 whip, with 14Ks Despite his struggles of late I bet Haynes shuts the Brewers down, and Santos gets battered.
  18. The Brewers have more important issues to deal with than Wes Helms. His defense at third is fine, and the overall offensive production is adequate. Finding out what they are going to do with the rotation is a bigger issue. Kinney and Obermueller cannot just keep going out there and handing the Brewers a 5 run or more defecit every game. Plus with Capuano's set back they will need that 5th starter after all, and the guys on the 25 man that could start a game: Hernandez, Santos, and Ford are pretty scary options. And that bleak situation inlcudes giving Doug Davis a lot more credit than he deserves. Davis has been a nightmare this season too, but just like last year when he has gotten in jams the damage has been limited by the other team not capitalizing, but I would not expect that to continue for 30 more starts. Bottomline is until the Brewers can field a rotation with pitchers who can keep their era under 5.20, does it really matter that Wes Helms is batting. 203?
  19. With such a dominant performance, you would think he would get another start. Possibly (hopefully) Kinney or Obermueller will get moved to the pen, and Saenz will take their place until Capuano is eligible to return from the DL.
  20. Here is to hoping that Jung Bong gets to pitch today.
  21. C'mon Foamboy if the Brewers were solely interested in cutting costs they would have given that dumb announcer girl the 86 back in April, but instead they still trot her sorry ass out there to annoy the ******* who still pay to see the games (yeah I include myself in this group). On topic, closing the Academy probably doesn't make much difference in the long run because the Brewers were not exactly getting anything from there in general. While bringing players straight to the US from the D.R. seems pretty innovative, even with the 400K in hand the Brewers still won't get the top talent because better teams will beat them out not only financially but aesthetically as well.
  22. I always wonder about the "Big Rig" Ron Villone. Some of his eras are absolutely brutal, but his career win loss (Playing on some bad teams too) is 35 wins 37 losses. Plus his career WHIP is a good 1.50. It seems those are pretty decent peripheral numbers for a guy who signs a minor league deal with a different team each year. I wouldn't mind him being my #5.
  23. Selig really is not a bad commissioner. He has made a lot of accomplishments since 1994. The problem is the players/player's union loathes him, so the media which has to remain on good terms with the players more than it does with baseball's administration takes the player's side by taking shots at Selig whenever possible. In fact Tommy Lasorda was on 670 AM in Chicago yesterday and he said that all the other managers he has spoken with like Selig as well
  24. " He's apparently got a great cut fastball, but had injury problems. " And with 30 walks and only 27 strike outs he apparently could not get the ball over the plate in Toronto too. However, with a good fastball he already probably can do just as well as Burba (of course Dave hasn't set the bar very high! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif )
  25. If the Brewers would have been playing a team that has some decent power in the lineup Burba would have got smoked. Don't let the numbers deceive you, he let a ton of guys (10) get on base in his 5 2/3 innings. Certainly his debut performance is better than what the Brewers were getting from Quevedo and Rusch, but I would credit that to the light hitting Minnesota lineup. Also, I would have to say why not let one of the better AA arms come up and take a shot, worrying about their arbitration clock is silly, because you never know what could happen. What if one of the AA arms comes up and is lights out like Willis is for Florida, is it then such a bad thing to start the arbitration clock running? Sure all of the AA arms should pitch a considerable amount at AAA, but if the player and the manager think they could successfully pitch in the big leagues what is the harm in bringing them up to try?!?
