  1. Marlins over the Cubs, Yankees over the Indians, and White Sox over the A’s are my upset predictions.
  2. I think it’s funny you mention this. I was actually thinking to myself yesterday and seriously considering using Lauer in Game 1 against the Dodgers. What do they have to lose? He struggled in a couple starts this season and that’s basically all he as given for an opportunity. It’s a complete shot in the dark move and one that people would never live down if it doesn’t work out, but it’s the type of move the Brewers might need to make to win this series. nobody is expecting the brewers to even win a game in this series (atleast nationally). i think its a bit much to say that people would never live it down. I meant it more as people on Brewerfan wouldn’t live it down. But it’s something to consider. Maybe Game 3 would be a better time to try it. I do personally think Houser might be the guy to start Game 1 though, go 2-3 innings with someone like Suter or Peralta pitching the next 2-3 and then evaluating. If you’re tied or in the lead through 5, bring in the shut down guys. If you’re down, you go all out in Game 2 and live to see another day.

  4. Does anybody have a final tally for the Brewers’ 2020 payroll? The number I saw was $107 million (obviously before taking into account the adjusted salaries). Just trying to get a general idea of what to expect for a payroll in 2021 for when we discuss our plans for offseason moves. I’m thinking it’ll get cut a little more and we will see it in the $95-$100 million range to start the season because of the no fans in 2020 and most likely reduced amount of fans let in to the stands in 2021. Thanks!
  5. Yeah it’s going to be interesting listening to the talking heads comparing our rosters and chuckling their way through their analyzation and opinions. The talent difference is massive.
  6. Not sure how we made the playoffs this season, but we did! Time to knock out the Dodgers!!
  7. Counsell is not a big game manager. Just look at Hader last year in the Wild Card Game who clearly didn’t have it and he sat on his hands to let Hader blow it. Every single Brewers fan could see it. Fire Counsell.
  8. Horrible managing. Game was on the line right there. Williams should have been brought into the game to get strikeouts. Saving him and hoping for another guy to get out of that mess unscathed is way too much to ask for. Especially when our offense has been so embarrassing all season, you can’t risk it. The game already feels completely out of reach. The season was on the line and we didn’t use Williams or Hader.
  9. 175 receiving yards for Justin Jefferson so far today and it’s still early in the 3rd quarter. If he’s a free agent in your league, I would look to add him.
  10. I do find it mildly frustrating seeing guys like Aguilar traded, but then we go out and sign a guy like Smoak for $5 million to hit .220 with some pop. Aguilar could do that at a much cheaper price. Also, Garrett Cooper was a pretty awful trade that I was against at the time as well. Sure would be nice to have a first baseman of the future in him instead of the revolving door we’ve had since 2012. Mauricio Dubon might be one we regret as well as he had a solid 2020. Granted we received Pomeranz in that trade, but it still sucked seeing Dubon moved. It would be nice to see what some of the young hitters can do who have had success up and through AAA instead of being moved. This past offseason of signing Sogard and Smoak was extremely underwhelming and played out basically how I thought it would with those two. Stearns certainly isn’t perfect and he does seem to win more trades than he loses. But I do have an issue with him moving MLB ready hitters instead of guys further away. If anything, Stearns should be looking to add guys who have had success in the minors and are on the cusp of MLB and getting that cheap control of a guy instead of moving them.
  11. MUST. WIN. #RyanBraunForever Three straight postseason appearances on the line. Let’s make history! Braun will come up clutch at some point today!
  12. Just in the limited amount of games I have seen this year, let alone of another team (Angels), Jo Adell has basically given up 3 home runs himself plus another absolutely awful play on a fly ball. One of the home runs went off his head and over the fence, one went off his glove (granted, this one he had to make a pretty good catch), and then tonight he hit a ball over the fence off his glove that wasn’t even going to be a home run. Is he that bad of an outfielder or just having absolutely brutal luck and I just happen to always be watching when it happens? Regardless, to see that many poor plays from one guy when I’m not even a fan of that team and just happen to have them on is pretty incredible.
  13. Hiura has 5 years of control left after this season and just turned 24 years old. Give the man a little slack. Even if he could be a .230/.330/.800 hitter and pop 30-35 homers a year as a 6 or 7 hole hitter, he will have value. He might not be the superstar in the future we all hoped he would, but he is certainly a capable hitter. I think that’s a baseline of what his floor will be moving forward with an extremely high ceiling. This is such a weird season as it is. He could get hot for a couple games and get 6 hits and his numbers would look much better quite quickly. I think the DH is here to stay and the Brewers would have no issue slotting Hiura into the DH spot and being able to sign a bat like LeMahieu to slot into the order. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hiura getting work in at 1B this offseason and making the transition there for 2021. Allowing the Brewers to put Urias at SS or 2B full time and filling the other spot with a free agent.
  14. Has there ever been a more dominant 25 inning stretch in relief than what Devin Williams has done this season? I’m sure there’s a couple similar to it, but he’s been absolutely filthy!
  15. I strongly dislike making him pitch on 3 days rest twice. Just let it play out and have him for WC Game 1. Woodruff lined up for Game 2, and then I say to do a mostly bullpen game in Game 3 if needed. Use all the guys needed in Game 1 to win it with them being off for Game 2. And then in Game 3, all hands on deck. That is at least my ideal situation. Maybe have someone like Anderson go through the order once in Game 3 and follow that up with your best arms.
  16. Justin Verlander to undergo Tommy John surgery. I wonder if we have already seen him throw his last MLB pitch. I can’t imagine him being brought back late next season to throw a few measly innings down the stretch. He will be 39 at the start of the 2022 season, which is a likely timeline for when he will be ready to pitch again without rushing him back.
  17. I would gladly bring Braun back if it’s for a few million. But if we are discussing free agent options, then Castellanos is a guy to keep an eye on. I think it’s time to lock in an All-Star bat with Yelich and Hiura and Castellanos is one that won’t break the bank and would be a perfect guy in the 4 hole behind Yelich. Marcell Ozuna would be a nice option to look at as well. He’s having a nice season and is still young where if you gave him a 3 or 4 year deal, it wouldn’t hurt you long term since he won’t be an aging player on a long contract.
  18. Congratulations to Braun on homerun number 350! Hoping to see him in the lineup everyday the rest of the way.
  19. Completely agree. Developing a top 5 pitcher in the game doesn’t happen very often. Woodruff is probably in the top 15-25 range and the only thing keeping him from being elite is consistency. Woodruff is a great pitcher that still has more room to grow and mature.
  20. Brad Miller really wasn’t too bad when he was with us. Seems like the front office has a short leash at times with certain players (Miller, Holt) for some reason when they are solid guys for their careers, but struggle for a short time. But then you have other guys like Sogard X2 and Peterson who can continue to struggle and were nothing special to begin with, but continue to get opportunities. I too would have preferred keeping Smoak and having Gyorko at third instead of even trying this Peterson experiment. Edit to add that I am not a fan of Smoak at all either, but he at least had a few timely hits. Also, Spangenberg being non-tendered was a head scratcher as well. He was a solid bench bat and has always been a solid player, and for some reason we let him go. Instead of having Spangenberg and a nice lefty bat, we over spent for Sogard.
  21. Gyorko is livid that he has to continuously make tags on Hiura’s throws. Surprised he acted that way.
  22. Nice to see a hit for Yelich and Hiura following it up with a missile for a homerun!
