  1. Lucroy definitely. Cain depending on how you phrase the question. There was a significant stretch after the Greinke/Marcum trades where I think it was Gennett and Davis and that’s it as far as multi-year starters Lucroy slipped my mind somehow. Thank you for the list. That’s quite a short list when you’re talking about 15 years of drafting and developing to only churn out that many guys. I see improvement on this the next few seasons starting with Mitchell who I think could fly through the minors.
  2. Great news! Hope to see him in the lineup tonight! I have high hopes for Urias to be a stud for us for the next half decade.
  3. Really hope we dabble here next offseason. He will still only be turning 29 right before the 2021 season. I think he will certainly be asking for $100+ million over 5+ years. I would certainly entertain it as we still need to pair another all-star caliber bat in the middle of the lineup with Yelich and the time to do that is now with Yelich in his prime. A core of Urias, Hiura, Yelich, and Castellanos for 5 years would certainly be a strong core to build around. Mix in guys like Narvaez, Cain, Garcia, or maybe even a return of Braun on a 1 year deal and you are looking at a pretty solid lineup. Brantley is a guy I advocated signing a couple offseasons ago. He could be one of those sneaky good offseason moves next offseason for whoever signs him.
  4. Ha watched replay just now. I'd have to believe meant 510 for Yelich. That was way gone. May have been 410ft above Hiura's HR ball when it hit the CF wall vs that scoreboard. You would think with the technology they have that they would provide more accurate measurements than they do sometimes. 400 feet to the base of the wall and it had to hit about 40 feet up the wall that is another few feet beyond the center field wall. That one had to be pushing 460 or 470 feet at the least.
  5. After Ramon Laureano of the A’s was drilled for the second time in the upper back tonight by Astros pitchers, a Houston coach was seen egging Laureano on to charge the Astros dugout. Laureano did end up charging the dugout, but what in the world is a coach doing acting in that manner? I want to say that Houston can’t possibly make themselves look any worse, but they continue to amaze. What is next?
  6. Nice to see the bats come alive today! Getting both Hiura and Yelich going is exactly what the doctor ordered.
  7. I’m with you on that. More often than not on those types of plays, I tend to get them right more than the umpires as well. The angle could definitely play a role in it.
  8. Garcia was a very good signing. I think if they were to play a full season, he would be one of the more underrated signings of the entire offseason. He will get hot at some point. The entire offense is just struggling right now including him.
  9. One pitcher getting plenty of calls of pitches off the plate called as strikes and the other can’t get calls when they are actually on the corner.
  10. I remember when people in the past always talked about how easy it is to find a good first baseman because there are so many out there. Outside of Thames for a couple seasons and Aguilar, it has been a continuous revolving door. Since Fielder left, we really haven’t had a solid first baseman that we could rely on day in and day out. Obviously it would be a step down from Prince when he left, but we have struggled to find a long term replacement since then and that is just a position you need to get good production from. It sure would be nice to have Garrett COOOOOOPER back on this team to have that void filled for the next 5+ seasons.
  11. From Braun's graduation through 2015, Stearns & company were not in charge of things, so I'm not sure how that reflects on them at all. From Stearns & company's first draft in 2016 through now there have been two players in all of MLB to put up 5 WAR, Pete Alonso & Shane Bieber. Fair point. It’s more of a gripe of not being able to churn out any homegrown quality bats in such a long time. If we were able to at least have a couple guys every few year come up and be solid 2-3 WAR players, even if it’s just for a handful of seasons, it would go a long way in helping us field a competitive team with having quality young bats and being able to bring on veterans to round out the roster instead of the current strategy (not exactly by choice) of having very little homegrown talent and needing to spend $5+ million on multiple “ehh” players instead of maybe being able to use the money to bring in a good quality bat to hit in the top 5 of the order with a good mix of young talent mixed in. It will be extremely difficult for us to be competitive year in and year out if the lineup consists of a bunch of journeymen/expensive for what they provide hitters. I am still interested in seeing a list of hitters who have reached the 5 or even 3 WAR threshold since 2007 for their entire careers with Milwaukee that came up through the system. It is certainly not Stearns’ fault by any means. The lack of talent brought in through the draft is why we are where we are today. Stuck overpaying for veteran hitters instead of even finding a guy to make the minimum for 3 years that could just hit .240 with 20 homers.
  12. I do think some type of shake up is needed. It is pretty sad when you actually sit down and try to think of what position players have actually had any type of decent multi year success for the Brewers since Braun graduated from the minors in 2007. I’ll give them some credit on the pitching front in recent years as doing a much better job of identifying and bringing in some pretty intriguing guys. I’m not sure how to find it, but could somebody compile a list of players that came up through the Brewers’ system that have even put up 5 WAR for Milwaukee? Is there even a single player that has?
  13. Bad players, no heart, not a good recipe for success. None of them look like they care to be out there.
  14. I always think back to that as well. He would have been a huge addition to the middle of the lineup for us. Especially as a big right handed bat. Something we have been lacking the last couple years to really balance out the lineup.
  15. I would like to take the over on that bet.
  16. Just food for thought, but I’ve been thinking quite a bit lately about the Brewers’ past offseason. Is it a possibility that Stearns was receiving advice whether from team doctors, scientists, etc. and based on information gathered in December and January, felt that baseball had a decent shot of being negatively affected by Covid? Is that a possibility as to why we saw some interesting signings and mostly 1 year deals to avoid the risk of signing someone to a long term deal and possibly wasting one or two of their prime years and then overpaying them on the backside without getting any production early on in the contract? The trade of Davies and Grisham to bring back Lauer and Urias looks absolutely genius at this point. The Padres traded a nice haul to Milwaukee for quite possibly one year of Davies and Grisham. Teams that traded prospects to get one year of a player have to be absolutely kicking themselves right now.
  17. If there is ever a season where the Brewers struggle and get a top 5 pick, I hope it is this season. With the shortened season, no fans, Covid raising havoc for teams in different cities, it just doesn’t feel right. This whole Covid thing would even make a championship not feel as sweet as it should. I would much prefer a top 5 pick this season and head into 2021 with things (hopefully) back to normal.
  18. Looks like Cantrelle himself said that he will be signing with Milwaukee and that it was an overslot amount above the $353,700 attached to his draft position.
  19. Can’t complain about the draft. Interesting strategy to go with all hitters. Something to consider with how the Brewers conducted their draft is that being a pitcher and not facing live action/game action for an extended period of time could have long term effects of a pitcher possibly losing feel of a pitch, reduced velocity, or shaky control. Hitters have timing to work on to get back in gear, but being a pitcher and not facing competition for 18+ months with no minor league season could be detrimental to not only their development, but also their careers. Hitters are a much safer bet in not having long term fall out from an extended lay off of baseball activities. Of course this is all in my opinion. It’s just a very real thing to consider when deciding on who to draft. Love the Garrett Mitchell pick and was surprised we could bring in a top 10 talent that far down in the first round. He seems to manage his diabetes quite well and appears to be a non-issue at this point. He will fly through the minors and could be an MLB contributor at some point in 2022. He has all the tools to be a star in the making.
