  1. I figured it might be worthwhile to create a thread to discuss current free agents that the Brewers should look to sign. The Twins are DFAing Ildemaro Vargas. Vargas is a guy that can play all over the diamond and has put together very good minor league numbers the last few seasons while putting up solid numbers with the Diamondbacks last season when given an extended look. He has struggled so far this season in 42 at bats, but would still be an improvement over much of what we have been trotting out there so far this season. I think he would come with at least 4 years of team control and would be a nice bench bat moving forward, allowing us to move on from Sogard after the season. I see no reason Vargas couldn’t exceed what half of the guys have done so far for us this season. Hopefully the Brewers bring him in and give him an extended look. That might be all it takes for him to show what he can do.
  2. Wilmer Flores is putting together a nice season so far and was one of the main guys I as well as a few others were hoping Stearns would sign. Hitting .285 with 8 homers so far this season. Didn’t realize he signed such a small contract either. 2 years for $6.25 million total. Also has a third hear club option for only $3.5 million. What a steal for the Giants. The dude isn’t anything special, but he will hit .260-.270 year in and year out with some pop. Doesn’t strike out much either. He was a sneaky good signing for the Giants.
  3. Much too early to consider it, but if he’s dominant in 2021, do you even consider approaching him with a contract extension after 2021 with 5 years remaining of club control still remaining? Offer like a 7 year deal, the last two years are club options, but he locks in money for life with the guaranteed 5 years. Just something to consider... If he is Haderesque again in 2021, I think he would have a hard time turning down a deal like this... 2022- $2 million 2023- $3 million 2024- $5 million 2025- $7 million 2026- $10 million 2027- $11 million club option 2028- $12 million club option He guarantees himself $27 million as a reliever and can earn up to $50 million.
  4. Love this trade. Three young arms added to the system and you hope one pans out. All three strike a ton of guys out and have their own unique characteristic whether it’s funky deliveries or long extension. All of them were pretty dominant last year. Might take 3 years to reap the rewards of this one, but I am interested in seeing how they all do. Too bad we couldn’t flip a couple other guys whether it was Smoak or Arcia even for a few lottery tickets. This is a great year to just get a high draft pick, bring in some minor league talent, and look to go for it in 2021.
  5. Blue Jays have acquired Robbie Ray and cash considerations from the Diamondbacks for LHP Travis Bergen.
  6. I've very much had the feeling something was going to happen today, and today, I've actually been hoping it involves Hader. That likely doesn't lead to an actual deal, but it certainly has added some excitement today. I feel like this is the time Hader is moved as well. It just makes too much sense right now. Grab MacKenzie Gore and Luis Campusano and a third piece thrown in like OF Hudson Head who is a young 5 tool player multiple years away and I’ll be pleased.
  7. Pretty quiet on the Brewers front, especially surrounding Hader. You know what that means with Stearns...
  8. That's... actually a lot less than I expected. That still would leave their farm system intact. I wonder if Preller's been saving the guys at the top of the farm system with Hader in mind, knowing that he's gonna be the toughest nut to crack this time around. This is where I am too. He’s keeping the top guys for a significant move at some point. They are going all in on a 3-4 year window here and it’s obvious with their acquisitions and cheap control of Tatis. Hader fits exactly into their window. Then they trade Tatis with a couple years left of control and offer the qualifying offers to Hader and Clevinger to get extra first round picks when those days come if they don’t trade them away. That’s something the Brewers need to take into consideration as well. They could ride Hader into free agency and get a top 40 pick as well. I am sure the Brewers are placing that value as part of the return for a team. Maybe the Brewers can get a nice return for Hader and get a competitive balance pick as part of the return, allowing them to draft a good talent at a position of their choice.
  9. Arcia is another name to watch leading up to the trade deadline. He’s not the flashiest of names, but he would be a fine bench bat or middle infielder for a team in the hunt needing an upgrade or replacement for an injured player.
  10. 1)The DH will exist in 2021, not necessarily guaranteeing that he's a backup. Additionally, he's good for 2-3 DL stints in a year, regardless. 2)I think there's a strong possibility we've seen the last of Cain in a Brewer uniform. 3)1B/3B are typically more easily addressed via trade/FA than CF. If you can get a legit CF for a modest cost, you should do it. 4)This trade would spare us from watching more games with Garcia or Gamel manning CF this year.... I agree in that we may have seen the last of Cain in a Brewers uniform. He is due 2 years and $35 million left on his deal. His no trade list is down to only 5 teams after this season. The Brewers could always package him in a trade with someone like Hader, Burnes, maybe even Hiura if something comes up and they go that route. Plus he’s still a solid player. He might be slightly overpaid, but he’s not going to hurt the return much in a trade. It would just be nice to clear that money off of our books as he continues to age. If you want one of our elite guys, you take this contract off our hands as well.
  11. Last night's heroics aside, Sogard should barely see time against righties, let alone lefties. Oh I totally agree. I just think it’s funny and sad at the same time that if you hit a home run (or two!), that you will find yourself on the bench the next day.
  12. I’m not sure who was running around the bullpen, but I was doing the equivalent around my living room when it left his bat. I’m pretty sure that was Suter that you’re referencing. He caught my eye out there jumping and running around lol.
  13. This is exactly why I think some team will end up giving the Brewers what they want. Hader is worth $20 million per season and is making significantly less than that the next few seasons. He is the cream of the crop and you will not find another guy to produce the way Hader does. The Dodgers absolutely could hit the free agency pool and bring in any replacement they want. Will the Dodgers actually try to pry Hader away with a player like Lux? Possibly. The way they develop/buy talent, they wouldn’t miss Lux as much as they will miss a reliever that can be the difference between winning the whole thing or falling short once again. They can find a good bat to plug and play in the field, but they won’t find the top reliever in the game through free agency.
  14. Exactly! And why would you let your rookie who is hitting over .300 and had a couple hits last night stay in the lineup? NO! Yank them around! Don’t let the confidence rise! Sit that man down and shake it up! Shake it up Counsell! SHAKE IT UP!!
  15. Please tell me I am not the only one that says “wow Sogard got all of that one” or something of the like any time he hits a ball about 300 feet.
  16. He does only have this season left on his contract. Hopefully this is just the first domino to fall and they will still be interested in Hader as a long term solution at the back of their bullpen.
  17. Nice game for Urias and Mathias with Burnes having a fantastic outing. It is HUGE for Mathias to do so well in his first couple dozen at bats at the big league level to give him the confidence that he belongs. Hopefully those two and Gyorko find themselves in the lineup again today.
  18. Counsell's arguments are always hilarious because he looks like a 10 year old arguing with his parents about how he deserves dessert even though he didn't eat his vegetables. Why is this so accurate?
  19. Seeing the replay of Counsell getting ejected was even arguably the most lifeless I’ve ever seen a manager after getting ejected. This entire team right now does not want to be here. At least show a little life and try to light a fire under your guys’ butts. Managers tend to do that once in a while, but man was that a sorry attempt.
  20. If you look at basically the entire lineup, you would actually think we were rebuilding. Our everyday lineups from 2015 and 2016 looked more promising than this...
