  1. Guess we get to see what we have in Jordan Love ... against a bad NFL defense in what is going to likely be a shoot-out. With Benkert out, too, because of COVID, they'll need to sign another QB to serve as the backup.
  2. Probably simply means he's done. It was a no-risk flyer. Him being inactive against the Cardinals was a dead giveaway that the experiment wasn't going well.
  3. But if he thought McCarthy was stale, just wait until he gets around that fossil the Broncos have coaching for them.
  4. I'm not a big Evan Engram fan. I think he's a perennial tease. He's basically a big WR who cannot stay healthy. You aren't going to line him up as an in-line TE. Tonyan may be a bad blocker, but at least he tries. Engram has absolutely no interest in blocking anyone. He simply isn't a great fit for this scheme, IMO. Jordan Akins from the Texans may be a decent fit, though. Good receiver. Bad blocker, but at least he tries. He isn't likely to cost much, either.
  5. Right. Would Rodgers even agree to go to a team in the Broncos that is CLEARLY rebuilding?
  6. Image isn't working. I'd very much like to know what it is.
  7. There is a specific person who posts on here who would of called that dumpster diving as they are not a big named player. Two of the 4 OF's that the Braves acquired the Brewers tried acquiring during the off season also. Wrong, that's not at all dumpster diving, in my book. You know what it is?? It's being aggressive. Look what happened because the Braves decided to get aggressive. They are still playing. John Curtiss and Daniel Norris, is NOT being aggressive. They were nothing moves, other than to add some depth to the bullpen. Very Meh moves. How'd they work out?? The Braves were at the point where they simply needed viable OFers. Orlando Arcia was seeing regular time out there for them prior to those acquisitions. The 4 OFers they traded for certainly weren't world beaters be any means. They weren't having great seasons either. But the Braves needed bodies. Is just so happens that those guys have played well since they were acquired. But they were pretty much "meh" deals at the time.
  8. That's fair. It's basically the price the team has paid for being more-or-less competitive during Rodgers' long tenure as the starting QB. They've kicked the can down the road, and the bill is coming due shortly. The Rams went through a rebuild period prior to McVay's arrival, so they haven't had to kick the can near as much. That has provided more flexibility for these "all-in" moves.
  9. The Rams might not have the means to improve their roster beyond signing the few draft picks they have left, but at least they don’t have to make tough decisions just to get to cap. The -$33 million doesn’t even include re-signing Adams. His current $16 million / year just falls off. +$10mm > -$33mm, right? What am I missing? I know what you are trying to do here ... i.e. getting me to admit that "OMG you're right the Packers are in trouble". Which I already did. Both teams are set up to win this year, then who knows for 2022 and beyond. The Rams' "all-in" is different looking than the Packers' version. The Rams are going for splashy outside-the-org moves. The Packers chose to keep the band together for one last tour. That is certainly an enviable position to be in for the rest of the 2021 season. I highly doubt any NFL teams would be envious of where either team stands going into 2022, though.
  10. The Packers are currently projected to be over the cap by $33 million in 2022 with only 39 players under contract. By comparison, the Rams are in an enviable position. Re-structure Stafford by converting his base salary to a signing bonus (adding void years, if necessary) and poof … you free up $10 million. https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space/ OK, that puts them $10 million under with 39 players signed, and no cheap (i.e. draft) way to fill those remaining holes. I don't se how that is enviable. They are all-in this season, much like the Packers are. Both teams are going to be hurting next year, unless they can perform some serious cap gymnastics.
  11. Pretty obvious last night, but now confirmed that Robert Tonyan suffered a torn left ACL, and is out for the year. Pretty brutal loss after the team had finally identified a game-changing type TE after years of looking and cycling through guys. Will be interesting to see if they plan to fill his role with the combo of Deguara, Daffney and Davis, or if they seek out someone from outside the organization. I suppose they could bring back Sternberger (I think he's on a practice squad somewhere).
  12. A guy who had a 6-year stretch of All-Star type offensive production while being a solid defender? That would be an absolutely terrific outcome. I'd be ecstatic is Weimer turns into another Hart.
  13. I get it. I want one too. More than you can imagine. But either way, I'm still going to be a diehard Brewer fan. So in that case, it would definitely be much more fun (at least to me) to cheer for a contending team over the next decade, than to cheer one who sells the farm for what is still a non-guaranteed championship shot, then is terrible after that 1-2 year window shuts. I guess what I'm saying is that it is completely plausible to both want a perennial playoff team and a Championship. I don't believe that selling the farm for an "all in" run is the magic elixir that is going to automatically bring this franchise a title.
  14. The actual numbers indicate the exact opposite. Dillon has averaged 2.47 yards after contact per carry since entering the league last season. No player in the NFL (min. 100 rushes) has averaged more than Dillon during that time.
  15. His "aggressiveness" left them flailing in limbo, signing over-the-hill "name" players for a few years while sitting around .500 and out of the playoffs until the final collapse, which left Attanasio sitting in an interview with Bill & Brian with a dumbfounded look on his face saying "I don't know what happened, but something has to change." Along came Stearns and after a very short "rebuild/retooling," we've been back in the playoffs for four straight years. Melvin took over a system with a great judge of talent in Jack Z., and some really good prospects in the system. He added some talent and got them a couple of playoff appearances, but he drained the farm in some "go for it" moves that I think cost them more playoff appearances than they made during his tenure. It could be argued that with the prospect talent he inherited and the amount of excess payroll room he had to play with, they should have gotten more playoff berths than they did. Heck, the Royals went to two World Series, winning one of them, with much of the roster being built from Melvin's "aggressive" Greinke trade. He left the team in a mess, and I strongly believe that we would have had a long run of futility if he had stayed on as GM. To his credit, I do think that Attanasio was a different (more hands-on) owner during Melvin's tenure, and in listening to some of Melvin's interviews in his later years, I think there was a disagreement in the direction the organization should take. It's hard to say what, if anything, Melvin would have done differently if he had "today's Attanasio." I am glad that Attanasio had his epiphany, and I think Stearns and his team have done a great job as is evidenced by the team's performance during his time here. It probably sounds like I hate Melvin. I don't. After decades of futility, it was wonderful to see the team become relevant again, and Melvin had a lot to do with that. However, he didn't have as much success in his 13 years at the helm as Stearns has had in half that amount of time. So, as I suspected by most posts on Brewerfan.net, the consensus are happy with just making the playoffs. Now, we'll get people like RonRobinson and others coming along to shoot that down immediately, saying "we all want to win the WS". The problem with that is, it doesn't come through that way in the downright giddyness of most fans here when the Brewers simply make the playoffs. Has making the playoffs been fun, sure...but when their season ends before the NLCS, what was really gained. Is that something to really be excited for?? "Ah well, they gave it the old college try, let's go get em again next year". As the great Ron Wolf once said "we were nothing more than a fart in the wind". I mean, sure, different sport, different system, but same basic principal applies..does anyone need to look any further than to Green Bay to see what eventually happens when you have a "passive" GM?? You get star players that are upset, and with good reason. You have three young stud pitchers under control...the window keeps shrinking every year that goes by...I mean, if not now(as far as being really bold and aggressive), then when?? I suspect that if Melvin were still GM, he would have been far more aggressive at the trade deadline as far as getting big bats than Stearns has been. He wouldn't have been afraid to deal Turang, or Small or Mitchell to go get someone(s), he thought might put them over the top. Sure, it may not have worked, but that's the chance you take for a shot at greatness. You think about the prospects Melvin traded to get some of the bigger name guys he did, did any of them really go on to be anything special?? A couple...maybe. I've said it before on this board but "scared money don't make money". There's going to be risks involved without a doubt, but that's the price you sometimes pay for a shot at immortality and to reach the top of the mountain. But I know this...the way Stearns has built his offenses the last couple years is never going to work, I knew that starting last year and told anyone that would listen it wouldn't. It hasn't. So you can either keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect different results and keep using "hope" as your main strategy, or...you can roll the dice, let it rip and take your chances. I know how I'd rather live. I'm sorry, but this argument makes no sense to me. Yes I want the Brewers to win a World Series. I crave it. But I'm also concurrently happy having a perennial playoff contender. I'm 41 years old, and for the vast majority of my life as a Brewer fan, the team has been crap. They've been embarrassing. So I'm damn right going to be happy having a team that the vast majority of other MLB teams are jealous of. It is entirely possible to both enjoy the ride, and also enjoy the destination. Baseball is awesome like that. We have 162 chances (more if you count Spring Training games) to sit back and watch the greatest sport in the world. I love watching good baseball, and for the last 5 years, this team has provided that. They also had a nice stretch around 10-15 years ago as well. I value that. So yes, I want this team to remain competitive. I would love a World Series win, but having to endure a decade of losing would suck. I've been there. I don't want to go back.
  16. Me too. I apologize for reacting in a negative manner. What an incredible game! This team definitely has some magic in it this season. Offense isn't putting up the gaudy numbers it did last year, but this team may be better due to a much tougher defense. And if they can get a few of the studs back and up to speed, watch out. Tompa Bay may not be the favorite many are making them out to be.
  17. Can we put a lid on this Debbie Downer junk for awhile now? We could also do without going back 20 pages to rub people's noses in it. A lot of people (myself included) didn't think we were winning this. Sorry, that one in particular stuck in my craw since this afternoon. Had the prediction come true, and the Packers actually been blown out, I would have been Johnny on the Spot to give him credit for his prediction. I think we all figured the offense might struggle tonight. But the defense has been much more effective lately, which made me believe that this would be a close game. Losing a couple WRs doesn't typically equal blowout. Now had the team lost Stokes, Savage and Campbell, it possibly would have been a different story.
  18. Can we put a lid on this Debbie Downer junk for awhile now? I mean it was...just a simple prediction. He was wrong and said so. He didn't say "we have no shot because we suck." I guess its the "get blown out" line that irked me. I realize they were missing a bunch of offense tonight, but the defense has been pretty stout against some solid offensive teams. I personally predicted a low-scoring game tonight. Odds were obviously stacked against the Packers, but this is also the type of game that, in the past, Rodgers and the coaches have really stepped up to put together a great game plan. That's exactly what happened tonight. I'm not real sure what they team needs to do at this point to prove that Week 1 was an aberration.

  20. Amari Rodgers as well. Would be nice to see him make an impact.
  21. LOL ... watch it come down to a last-second field goal now.
  22. Is it an obvious promotion though? Sandy Alderson is still there, and Alderson's son is the current assistant GM. Fair point. I was going off the title of President. But you’re right, Alderson still lingering around is not appealing either. This tweet seems to confirm that point

  24. Looks like he needs shoulder surgery and is likely out for the season. Consider that a bullet dodged. That stinks. Guy just can't catch a break health-wise. It does. Watt is an excellent player, and seems like a good dude too. But the wear and tear playing DE for a decade in the NFL has broken his body to the point where he simply cannot hold up any longer.
  25. I’ll bite. Why? Probably because they moved the 2021 All Star Game out of Atlanta. Considering the pressure he was under with that decision, though, I'm no t real sure he had much of a choice.
