  1. Hopefully Za'Darius is inching closer to a return. Garvin has flashed a bit on a few of his rushes as well.
  2. They love Jace. I doubt he goes anywhere. He was actually quite solid with the bat last season as well, so it really isn't a case of "Counsell loves utility guys who cant hit."
  3. I'm hoping that they can find a decent #2 defensive catcher, and possibly one more bat-first guy who can catch and perhaps play a little 1B or the OF as well.
  4. I like the idea, but I have trouble seeing the Dodgers being able to pull in Hader while only giving up Pages and Beeter. I think they likely need to give up at least one more highly-ranked prospect in a deal like this.
  5. I'd guess at least 3 or 4 weeks for Jones...and that's a total guess. Gary still needs an MRI to determine the severity. According to reports this morning, Gary wants to wear a brace on his elbow, and may not even miss one game. Will still have an MRI tomorrow, but overall that is a good development.
  6. Also depends on the severity of the sprain. Not all strains are equal. Given that Jones never went into the locker room for an MRI or other closer analysis, I'd take it to be on the less severe side. The Packers' medical staff let him stay on the sideline for the rest of the game, then Randall Cobb gave him a piggyback ride into the locker room following the game. That tells me that while he may miss a little time, they aren't overly concerned.
  7. And with Bahktiari seemingly close to a return, along with Alexander and Z. Smith possibly coming back before the end of the season, this team could in theory be hitting its stride at the right time.
  8. Without knowing the exact prognosis, both appear to be positive developments, as both should be able to return this season.
  9. Both Kevin King and Rashan Gary played phenomenal games today. Both have played well for a big part of the season. Whole buffets of crow are being served right now.
  10. Alot of season left yet. They went through a nice stretch of games last year too. I was skeptical of the Barry hire, but figured he couldn't be any worse than Pettine. But this defense is substantially better. There really is no denying that.
  11. I totally understand not being excited about about a minor deal for a depth piece like this. Not every acquisition is going to be the needle-mover variety. But that is absolutely no reason to call out posters who are enthusiastic about this move. Stop it.
  12. You must really hate Houser to trade for Kepler to use as a platoon. Houser to me has more upside as he refines his pitching. Nah, I just don't see the upside in Houser at this stage. I like him just fine. He didn't really take the step forward that I thought he might this season. Obviously the GB% is great, but to me he's not more than the role he's been in: back end starter or bullpen arm. I actually think he might play better as a full time bullpen arm. Kepler is nothing special either but his upside is a 30+ HR bat who can handle RF and CF if needed. He's at least an avg defender and not a negative on the bases. In the same sense as I can see some potential upside in Houser yet, I think there's a fraction of potential upside in Kepler with the amount of contact he's able to make. In my book, it's a pretty even swap at a position of relative depth for each team. I get that we have some great starting pitching, but a guy that just went 10-6 with a 3.22 ERA isn't a back-end starter or pen arm in pretty much any MLB team's pitching staff.
  13. OBJ goes to ... surprise ... the Rams. To be the obvious #3 behind Kupp and Woods. The Rams sure do have a completely different way of team building. Don't care at all for draft and develop. Go out and poach established players. I suspect we shall see what way is more effective come January. I personally don't think OBJ is going to make much of an impact either way. I think he's just about done.
  14. But Bryn Alderson is only 40, and he dad is seemingly trying to set him up to eventually take the reigns. I think that is how this eventually ends.
  15. Not sure what they have at this point to trade. They can't trade their 1st this year. All other tradeable picks for the foreseeable future have been sent away in the Holiday trade and the ones that aren't can't be traded and are swaps. I guess you can move DDV, but he is up after this year. I'm sure there will be a few bigs available on the buyout market come spring. They basically only need a guy that can spell Lopez and play 10-15 minutes a night. Who knows ... maybe there is a guy like they had in Diakite last year hanging out in the G League that they can grab?
  16. Ah yes ... we've reached the point of the offseason where the Yankees are linked to literally every star who is thought to be available. Early this year.
  17. Stearns would certainly not be answering to Alderson and he can name his price. If he asked for 20 million a year I doubt Cohen would say no as thats pennies to the richest owner in the sport. The question remains how much he wants to go back home and how much money he wants to demand because there are definite negatives to that job especially the owner who has quite the negative reputation. Attanasio needs to lock Stearns up this offseason so these questions about his future end once and for all. If its clear that Stearns wants to go home we pretty much have to let him go. I think it would be disastrous for the franchise but either way we need an answer as to whether or not David wants to be here long term. Cohen seems to love having Alderson there. I don't think he's going anywhere. I think the power structure is a huge reason why they've had so much trouble filling that GM spot. Alderson is the team president, and his son is the assistant GM. No one wants to step into that nepotism minefield. Alderson went on record yesterday saying that he'd like to hire a GM with enough personnel background so that Alderson can take a step back from that role and focus on the business side of the team, but if they hire someone with limited experience, he'd stay involved in baseball ops. I think the only way Stearns would go to the Mets is if Alderson (and his son) are completely out.
  18. The low-hanging fruit of MLB personnel. Firing hitting coaches keeps the casual but vocal fans off a team's back for awhile, so the turnover is pretty huge.
  19. OBJ has cleared waivers, per Ian Rapoport. He is free to sign with anyone. There is a tweet floating around out there from an insider that the Packers are his prefered destination. Of course, we've heard that one before.
  20. Just saying that there would definitely be a contingent of fans who expect OBJ to come in and immediately be #1B to Adams' #1A, while in reality, OBJ's upside at this point is probably as a hybrid of what Lazard and MVS already provide.
  21. The big question would be whether he's got anything left in the tank, or have injuries eroded his skills to the point where he's just another guy? The Browns couldn't find any takers before the trade deadline, which leads me to believe that most other NFL contenders think he's no longer a big enough talent to be worth the potential trouble. Had more to do with teams knowing he was headed out and not wanting to be saddled with the rest of this years contract If he clears waivers I believe he can sign for the league minimum left this year, and be a free agent this offseason. Ill take a motivated OBJ for 2 months I'm not against the move off hand. I would just warn that expectations need to be held in check. I see people comparing this situation to the Packers grabbing Andre Rison off the scrap heap in 1996. It's important to remember that, other than a huge play in SB31, Rison didn't really have that much of an impact. Also, when he was signed, the team had already lost their #1 WR in Brooks to a blown out knee, and #2 in Freeman to a busted wrist (which he later came back to play with). Don Beebe was the de facto #1 at the time, with Derrick Mayes, Anthony Morgan and Terry Mickens also getting reps. Today's WR room is significantly in better shape.
  22. The big question would be whether he's got anything left in the tank, or have injuries eroded his skills to the point where he's just another guy? 23. I agree with the majority of what you said, with one minor quibble. Favre was electric at times in his first few years as a starter, but was not good by today's standards ... or even the standards back then. From 1992-1994, the Packers went 3 seasons with matching 9-7 records. They were on the perfory of contention, and there were arguments that Favre was actually holding them back. His carelessness with the ball actually got so bad that Holmgren at several points considered benching him for Ty Detmer and/or Mark Brunell. Favre didn't actually break out as an elite QB until part way through that 1994 season.
  24. It would be hard to blame them for making a decision like that. That team sucks. Fields is talented, but Nagy is a terrible coach, and that offensive line is going to get Fields killed. As for the flag itself, if the practice squad moron would have simply gone back to the huddle instead of deciding to trash talk the whole Steelers sideline, nothing would have happened. As a football coach, that type of behavior infuriates me. There's no reason for it. Let your play do the talking. I don't believe the ref "intentionally" hip checked Marsh either. Seemed pretty incidental to me.
