  1. We shall see, but I think what you think is incorrect in this instance. Sure, could happen. But it would be a direct contrast to how he was used all year, and how Counsell himself said he'd be used in the playoffs. That's enough tea leaves to me to indicate that they aren't going to change the way they use Hader.
  2. Just because he isn't in the Game 1 lineup doesn't mean that Urias isn't going to play a major role in this series. In what will likely be a low-scoring game. defense is likely to be at a premium, and the alignment of Escobar at 3B and Tellez at 1B is likely a little more sound than Urias at 3B and Escobar at 1B. Or, Escobar on the bench...put the superior bat/glove/everything in Urias at 3b? They didn't trade for Escobar for him to come off the bench. I totally get the argument that Urias has been better of late, though. I love him on this team, and he's got a very bright future as a Brewer.

  4. I can’t argue with nearly any of this. Getting on base in a critical inning though, I think I’d have Wong in that discussion. He’s kept a little magic dust in his pockets from St. Louis and seems valuable there. It's nice to have choices for a "need someone to get on base" guy. Pretty rare as a Brewer fan.
  5. That's probably when he strained it.
  6. Who do you want coming up to bat with the game on the line? If you need a HR? - Adames. He seems to have a flair for the dramatic. If you need a hit? - Cain has come up with quite a few big hits this year. If you need a sac fly? - Yelich. Obviously he hasn't had a good year by any means. But he's a smart ballplayer. If you need someone to get on base at the start of an inning? - Urias is so good in these sort of situations. Works counts, doesn't chase, and can put the bat on the ball when needed. Jace Peterson is a close 2nd.
  7. LOL, how would that be any different than being asked about it every week for the last two years? I mean, it is what it is at this point, isn't it? That version of Hader isn't coming back. I think we all know that version of Hader isn't coming back, but there's a difference between that and at least having a miniscule amount of flexibility to deviate from the traditional routine. I get that, and as a fan, I don't disagree. But every tea leaf points to the team continuing to be rigid concerning Hader's usage. I think we'll likely see some outside-the-box pitching moves in the playoffs from the Brewers. I just don't see any of them involving Hader, though.

  9. Was this recent? Or just something he said early in the season? Multi-inning outings are almost always a thing in the playoffs in cases with elite relievers. I can understand his commentary in the regular season but playoffs are and should be different. Almost positive he was asked about it last week and said he preferred 1-inning outings. Counsell was also asked about it, and said Hader wouldn't be used any differently than he is now. At this point, I think we simply have to admit that the idea of the 2018-esque multi-inning Hader appearance is dead, and probably move on.
  10. Former Brewers who made the Braves NLDS roster include Will Smith, Orlando Arcia and Drew Smyly (well, he was Brewer property at least). I believe Jace Peterson is the only former Brave who is now a Brewer
  11. Will Sammon @WillSammon · 19s Brent Suter is not on NLDS roster due to minor right oblique strain, per Brewers
  12. No Suter on the initial list. Seems pretty odd.
  13. Ehh, if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. The Dodgers are a tough matchup for sure. But they aren't infallible. But let's get through the Braves first ... then worry about which western juggernaut to attack.
  14. I think it has to do with (1) his performance - middling at best and (2) they have quite a bit of depth there and good depth at that. This definitely means Jabril Cox is entering the rotation. They were probably demoting him and he asked to be released? I dunno. Cowboys employed a new defensive scheme this year, and Smith was no longer a great fit for it. They also drafted Parsons in the 1st round and Cox in the 4th, and also still have Vander Esch making huge money, so it turned into a numbers game. Jaylon Smith is a good athlete, but he's more of a traditional MLB, while Parsons brings safety-type athleticism and coverage ability. Smith isn't the top-notch MLB he was a few years ago, but he's no doubt better than Oren Burks and Ty Summers, and quite possibly better than Barnes as well. Barnes is probably more of a thumper, but Smith is a better athlete. I've been impressed with Campbell's play so far. I thought when they signed him that he was just a guy, but he's been all over the place so far. Joe Barry's scheme is designed to make the middle backers look good, so I'm not surprised that Smith wanted to be a Packer.
  15. he's in AZ to rehab to get ready for the ws. not for punishment. Devin ain't pitching in no World Series. This year anyway. Odds are that he is not. But they wouldn't have sent him to Arizona to rehab it if there wasn't a chance. Again, he is NOT being punished. The narrative you continue to push here is simply incorrect.
  16. Of course. However, I did preface it by saying they "were the very definition of mediocre". The way they are playing indicates that they are obviously above that currently. How is pointing out their season record before going on an unprecedented 16-game winning streak "cherry picking"? They were a mediocre team prior to it. Now they aren't. I'm not sure what your point is. Are you agreeing with me that they're a good not great team or are you saying they really are mediocre and this winning streak makes them look better than they really are? The latter point. Mediocre team with a September streak that made them look better. All water under the bridge at this point. Maybe if they hadn't napped their way through 3/4 of the season, they would have actually posed a threat to the Brewers, and they wouldn't be done before the Brewers' playoff run even begins.
  17. I'll worry about the Dodgers next week. But for now, this is awesome! LOL vaunted Cardinals offense. LOL 17-game winning streak! What'd that get you? Get back on the rack, Andro O'Neill! In all seriousness, though ... that was a pretty awesome baseball game. Proof positive that it's all about pitching in the playoffs. Thankfully the Brewers have a little bit of that.
  18. I seriously don't know who I'm cheering for. If it were up to me, aliens would show up right now and just abduct both teams.
  19. Packers Twitter is apoplectic right now. I mean, did these people JUST start cheering for the Packers? What in this team's history made anyone think that they would make a move on Gilmore? I mean, I will admit that a sliver of me got intrigued, but it just isn't a move this team makes.
  20. Whatever happens tonight, I will be the biggest Giants fan east of the Bay Area this weekend.
  21. Here's who the Brewers will be sending to the Arizona Fall League, along with their MLB Pipeline team prospect ranking: Joe Gray Jr., OF (No. 9) Antoine Kelly, LHP (No. 10) Mario Feliciano, C (No. 13) Joey Wiemer, OF (No. 23) Abner Uribe, RHP (No. 26) Taylor Floyd, RHP J.T. Hintzen, RHP Justin Jarvis, RHP Jolon Zhao, RHP Would have liked to see Mitchell, but overall this is a nice group. Excited to see if Gray and Wiemer especially can keep their breakouts going. Also nice to see guys like Kelly and Feliciano, who missed major time due to injuries.
  22. This is where I'm at too. I'm going to be both satisfied and frustrated regardless of the result of tonight's game.
  23. Gilmore is 31, so he's getting into that "vet looking to hang around" time. I imagine he will try to latch on with a contender for a solid 1-year contract this year, then look to cash in one more time on a longer term deal this offseason if he plays well.
