  1. The 4th was for Martinez, and the 5th was for Bulaga. Bulaga was downgraded value-wise for having 10 accrued seasons before signing as a free agent.
  2. If I were in charge, I would majorly go for it this year. I think there will be a lot of value signing free agents that can help us out. Extend Smith, Adams, and get some cap from Arod. Also, I am assuming they might be doing this to sign Aaron Jones which I don't like. Love him as a player but never pay RBs big money. If they end up freeing up enough money with a Z extension or restructure, why wouldn't they have just tagged him? I really think paying him on a 1/$8m contract is palatable, but giving him big Kamara or Cook-like money will be a disaster. I am trying to come up with a reason why they wouldn't have tagged him. The only thing I can figure is that they either have a contract close to in place with him, or they are doing him a solid by not tagging him and causing ill feelings or a potential holdout, which would potentially be a PR disaster. Or perhaps they surveyed the rest of the league and found out that they wouldn't be able to do better than a 3rd or 4th round pick in a tag-and-trade deal. That seems unlikely, though, as even a 4th in the 2021 draft would have more value than an extremely late 3rd in 2022.
  3. I think he's just trying too hard to be funny. He may get better as he gets more comfortable. I sometimes wonder how bad Uecker was in his first couple years in the radio booth. I'm sure it took him awhile to find his polish. I could see Dillard going that same route someday.
  4. Right. When you literally have no other options, it's easier to justify going that route. Except you DO have options to pay for it, you CHOOSE not to. Look, I'm not going to deny that I never illegally downloaded music in college years ago. However, if you are an adult out of school, you should be beyond that kind of stuff imo. This is sports, it's not feeding your family. I feel weird defending cable companies (they mostly suck) and not doing illegal pirating but here we are. I literally don't have other options. I live in a rural area with no cable options, and last time I checked, DirecTV cannot get a line of sight for their dish (which is odd, because I've had DISH Network in the past). I have tried AT&T TV, and my slow internet speed makes the service unwatchable. Also the terrible platform and interface makes navigating it quite difficult. Granted the last time I tried AT&T was roughly 1 1/2 years ago, so perhaps it has improved. Still, paying $85+ per month just to watch the Brewers seems steep, even if I could get the service to work. So my options were already limited, and Sinclair's terrible business practices has made them even moreso.
  5. Right. When you literally have no other options, it's easier to justify going that route.
  6. Yep. Sinclair is basically saying "If you don't have access to cable, no baseball for you! If it was one streaming service that pulled the plug on the RSNs, it would be easy to blame the service. But when it's literally all of them (besides bloated AT&T and its terrible platform and interface), the blame rests squarely with Sinclair.
  7. [sarcasm]Good. We want him to play FB and not be a pyromaniac.[/sarcasm] 1) Lowry was a good pick. He has struggled lately, but overall a good pick. 2) Lowry's success or struggles has nothing to do with any other NW player. Are you saying the university (where they didn't actually even play together) somehow has a bearing on Lowry or Newsome's success potential? It feels like perhaps the contract extension that Lowry signed has placed some unrealistic expectations on him in the eyes of some fans. Lowry is perfectly fine role player in a defense that was designed to highlight certain positions (DE not being one of them). He fills his gap fine, is decent most of the time against the run, and can sometimes get a little push as a pass rusher. He's a try-hard guy who gets the most out of limited athleticism. No defense is going to have a star at every spot, so he's fine as an unassuming member of a solid defensive front. To me, he personifies what comes to mind as a typical Northwestern player (smart, selfless, athletically limited, but gets the most out of his ability). If Newsome was coached up in the same manner, given his obvious athletic gifts, he could be a stud.
  8. Elvis Andrus is saying "hold my beer."
  9. I think they'll initially go with the Shaw/Robertson/Arcia combo (with Shaw seeing the majority of the work as the big side of a platoon), and while Shaw's leash isn't going to be incredibly short, I imagine that if we get to mid-May and he's scuffling, they may look into other options. The Bradley acquisition really helps by adding an extra lefty bat to the lineup, which would enable them to give more playing time to guys like Robertson and Green should Shaw not work out. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see them scour the waiver wire and cut lists for a LHH 3B that they can stash in AAA (or I guess in Appleton for April at least), as a fallback option. i'm really pulling for Shaw, though, and hopefully he can provide enough offense to stay in the lineup on a regular basis. The results haven't been great so far in spring (.673 OPS), but that .400 OBP certainly is a positive, and only 2 Ks in 15 plate appearances is encouraging.
  10. How is making adjustments in Spring Training a bad look? I would think this would be the time to be doing that. With the impending decision on him only 6 days away and coming off of a rough couple years, it’s just not a reassuring thing in my eyes for him to be working on something because he’s not right. But I can certainly see why it would be a positive too in that they are working on it now before the games really matter. I would hope he worked on himself in the offseason to figure himself out and come into camp ready to roll. Which I’m sure he thought he did, but something just wasn’t right. It’s more of a small red flag at this stage and something to watch with the roster decision coming up. Counterpoint: They've possibly/likely already let him know that he's making the team, so he has the flexibility to make changes in his approach now. When they signed him, I personally figured it was a foregone conclusion that he'd make the team, barring some sort of terrible showing indicating that he's cooked. But he's played well on defense, and has put some nice ABs together.

  12. Which combined with his $6.5 base salary for this year makes for a total guarantee of $13 million, which I believe was reported previously. It's just a way for the Brewers to kick the can down the road to a season when revenue has theoretically been returned to closer to normal levels.
  13. This board is going to implode when Orlando Arcia is in the #2 hole against the Twins on opening day.
  14. I don't think so, but that's probably because he's been seeing all of his time at 3B with the idea of getting him up to speed there.
  15. Regarding the bold, have we seen this ability yet? 4 innings in CF last year. I know, doesn't really tells us much, but I assume he's getting work in the OF if they are trying to make him more of a utility guy.
  16. This is pretty much where I expected this to go.
  17. If/when he goes in the IL, they can't.
  18. But Hiura hit in the 2-hole the last time Yelich was in the 3-hole so that doesn't really bold well for your theory on lineup construction. Counsell is overthinking it if he doesn't bat Yelich 2 against righties and 3 or 4 against lefties. Still a righty in the 2 hole... That's my point... Yelich is gonna hit 3rd this year. The Brewers have never been a team that worries about alternating LH and RH hitters.
  19. Basically what Jimmy Graham was supposed to be.
  20. Devin Funchess has reportedly renegotiated his 2021 contract, offering the Packers a $750,000 break on their salary cap. He'll now earn $1.75 million if he makes the squad. That has the chance of being a nice bargain for the Packers. By the looks of Funchess's Instagram, he's managed to keep himself in incredible shape, and has definitely been hitting the weight room. He's a big, strong dude. Perhaps he's a darkhorse 2021 offensive contributor. The issue is that his skillset is somewhat redundant with Lazard and St. Brown already on the roster.
  21. You should be fine after #1. It was #2 that kinda knocked me on my butt a bit. The side effects are typically short, though. Congrats, and good luck!
  22. He had a very solid debut in a very small-sample 58 ABs in 2018, but was pretty terrible in 2019 in amuch larger sample 143 ABs. Looks like minor league numbers are pretty similar. I don't know with 100% certainty, but I am pretty sure Arcia is a better fielding SS, but he really hasn't played enough anywhere else to say he's better there. It would stand to reason he could handle 2B or 3B, though, and they are playing him some in the OF.
  23. ??? 2017 vs. LHP: 2018 vs. LHP: 2019 vs. LHP: 2020 vs. LHP: Ok, so perhaps I should have researched that claim LOL
  24. Garcia looks like a completely different player, both physically and mentally. Granted it's only March 8, but it's great to see!
  25. For someone with supposedly no power, Turang gave that one a ride.
