  1. It's hard to believe Jesus Aguilar was an all star only 18 months ago, and has since been given up on by two teams .
  2. The NBA is never going to have the pull of the NFL. Too long of season, and too many teams in the playoffs. It makes the regular season irrelevant to the casual fan.
  3. Grandal signed roughly a week and a half before last year's On Deck. I agree, though. They like to ham it up for this event. Part of me wonders if something might break this week.
  4. It bothers me that this is shaping up to be a way that the Cardinals are going to acquire him for peanuts.
  5. https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/05/18/grote-the-story-behind-pedro-strops-crooked-hat/ He actually seems like a pretty jovial guy. Plus, I'm sure the Cardinals hate it, so sign me up!
  6. would've also been the long awaited Rodgers/Brady Super Bowl showdown that would've been great for the league. I generally agree with your sentiment here, ever since then it seems the vibe is most people expecting GB to blow it somehow. Bostick-induced PTSD? I agree. The outcome of that game has made this fanbase overly cynical. However, nothing that has happened since then has rectified that cynicism.
  7. Curse of a small market team in today's MLB economic landscape. I personally would rather have a team with a bunch of bounce-back candidates than one with a bunch of guys that have nothing to bounce back to. I am not disagreeing with you. It just feels like half of the roster could be described that way, which is funny when you're talking about a playoff team from the prior year... This year's roster reminds me of what we were looking at in 2018. A bunch of bounce-back guys and question marks. And really, what they are doing this year roster construction-wise is what they traditionally do. Value signings. Sometimes it seems like getting Grandal and Moose last year, and Cain the year before was the worst thing that could have happened to this fanbase, because now they expect moves like that every year. That's simply not going to happen.
  8. Many people thought the same thing about the Rams a couple years ago. Almost verbatim. The NFL is set up for parity. Other than the crazy run the Patriots have been on for the last nearly 20 years, good teams come and go relatively quickly. Teams that look like potential dynasties crumble within a year or so. The 49ers certainly appear very talented, and after last night's game they may seem unbeatable. I would guess that won't be a long-term thing, though. Even in a game where they soundly beat the Packers, that looked like far from an unbeatable team to me. Take away Rodgers' interception and that fumble, and it's a much different game.

  10. Not picking on you in general but I never get this kind of thinking by fans and WI fans in general. Why? You have to enjoy the journey, but it is important to win championships once in awhile too. Otherwise, what are you working toward? It's gonna sound a little hokey, but I've always thought the journey is the reward when it comes to pro sports. If the team is good enough to make the playoffs, that's kind of a bonus. I probably enjoy watching regular seasons baseball and football games more than playoff games, simply because I know that I'll get to enjoy this feeling again either tomorrow with baseball or next weekend with football. Cheering for a playoff team, while fun, is much more stressful. In the end, what they are working toward is providing entertainment. That's really all it is in the end when you get down to it.
  11. The Bucks with the best record in the NBA say hi! I wish the NBA regular season meant more.
  12. Not much out there on McHugh, other than the fact that Abraham Toro switched his number from #13 to #31. That would seem to indicate that McHugh staying with the Astros isn't in the cards.
  13. He's been solid, but I don't know if I could get used to that cock-eyed flat-brimmed hat. (half blue)
  14. I think this is a good point, and likely the result of the investment in safeties in the offseason. Over the top-type safety play/coverage was much, much improved, but there is still a deficiency in the underneath coverage that partially/mostly involves the LB's and slot cover guys. I think having Campbell and Greene will help. Particularly as it pertains to covering TEs Campbell is an URFA I believe. He's one I'd like to see them re-sign, though.
  15. If he puts up the same numbers he did in 2019 over the next two years, his next deal is going to be for the minimum. I don't disagree with you that he needs to improve. Just that his spot on the 2020 roster is almost assuredly secure.
  16. So you're going to give up on the guy because he lost a season due to injury? And yeah, 21 catches and 328 yards as a rookie 6th round pick is a good thing, not the bad thing you seem to be making it out as. If the talent around him improves enough to push him off the depth chart, then yeah. He's got talent, but it's a 6th round pick. Jeff Janis had talent. Jared Abbrederis had talent. Trevor Davis had talent. J'Mon Moore had talent. Late round WRs with "talent" are a dime a dozen. ESB is a guy you can certainly invite to training camp and see what happens, but there's nothing special about him where you pencil him into the depth chart for 2020. The last thing we need is for our WR room in '20 to become a repeat of '19. I mean, I get the need to upgrade talent on the roster, but I think there's simply no way that they are going to tear things down to the level you seem to be advocating. And there is only so many high draft picks and free agent dollars to go around for upgrades as well. They are going to have to really pick and choose where the most obvious weaknesses are. I expect higher quality depth, but the 2020-21 roster is going to have plenty of flyers on it too.
  17. Or .... you coach him up and hope he improves his consistency. I mean, you know he has a huge leg, and he's only 24 years old. He was one of the top punters in the league the first half of the year, then hit a wall for some reason. It's obvious that the talent is there, though. Well like I said that's probably what they're going to do for two more seasons because he's cheap and on a rookie deal. But at some point at that position the results need to be there. Hasn't been good enough through his first two seasons. It's not because he's cheap and on a rookie deal. They are punters. They all make near the minimum. The highest paid punter in the NFL makes less than $4 million. It's because they drafted him, and he has a lot of obvious talent.

  20. I see plenty of possibility that neither is back. This was the important year for both and is why we proceeded with the WR group we had and that proved to be a mistake. I think Lazard will be back as maybe a #4 and Kumerow as a #5. Allison for sure is history. I think taking a WR high and maybe adding a veteran like Cobb makes sense this offseason for our 2 and 3. Smart money says one is back but I could us moving on from MVS and ESB both. MVS's disappearing act in the 2nd half of the season would be some justification for moving on from him, but I doubt they just cut bait on him unless they decide to totally remake that WR room. St. Brown stands even less of a chance of being let go, though. Of the 3 WRs they drafted, he probably looked the most complete in 2018, and obviously 2019 was lost to injury. He isn't going anywhere. I mean, what would be your justification for moving on from him?
  21. Wow, if Rodgers isn't even a top 10 QB anymore, it makes me feel even better about the team that Gute has put around him. It takes one heck of a team to go 14-4 with mediocre QB play. The truth is, it is probably somewhere in between. Rodgers is still an high-end QB, but he isn't the otherworldly player he was in those prime 2009-2014 years. He's where Brady was roughly a decade ago, when the Patriots decided to go out and acquire elite skill position talent. The Packers can maintain the status quo, and probably get 3-4 more years of solid QB play and playoff appearances out of Rodgers. But to truly make this a dangerous team, they need to find more weapons. That's what makes this such a huge offseason for Gute.
  22. MLB - I like Cory Littleton (Rams), Joe Schobert (Browns) or Nick Kwiatkowski (Bears) DE - Chris Jones would be ideal, but spendy. Arik Armstead is another that would be a great fit. Leonard Williams. Gerald McCoy. Shelby Harris. Michael Brockers. Ndamukong Suh. Carl Nassib. Derek Wolfe. Jarran Reed. Quentin Jefferson. It's actually a really deep FA class this year. I totally expect the Packers to sign at least one of these guys, if not two. RT - Sort of expecting Bulaga to re re-signed, actually. I doubt he gets a huge contract, mainly due to injury concerns. Wouldn't mind hanging on to Veldheer as the swing tackle either. Anthony Castonzo is the top FA tackle, but he'll likely sign a very big deal, and is already 32. Scherff would be a nice road-grader type at guard, but I don't know if I trust Turner at RT. Jack Conklin from the Titans would be a nice sign. Lafleur would know him quite well. TE - Honestly, I expect them to cut Graham, and go with the combination of Sternberger, Tonyan and a rookie. Hunter Henry would be a dream scenario for me, though. I've always loved him.
  23. Looking at the free agent ILBs out there, if the Packers do move on from Blake Martinez, Joe Schobert would be an ideal replacement. He is significantly faster and better in pass coverage.
  24. I think there is a strong possibility that Cooper gets franchised. If he doesn't, though, I'd expect the Packers to be in on him. A.J. Green would be a fun name if the health checks out. Emmanuel Sanders would probably fit. Robby Anderson would bring speed. Breshad Perriman really came on in the 2nd half of the season for the Bucs, and is only 26.
  25. I think Nicholas Castellanos would likely be better defensively at 3B than Daniel Murphy at this point in his career. If we are truly going to go full-on train wreck defense, I'd rather have the 27-year-old who is still in his prime with the bat.
