  1. I'm glad for Drew. Reinvented himself and was lights out for the Brewers. Arguably their pitching MVP (with Lyles) from August on. Seemed like an awesome dude too. Wish he could have come back.
  2. After dealing Grisham, the Brewers have a corner OF hole. Castellanos would fill that nicely.
  3. Bump Awesome man! You get props. Anything else brewing?
  4. OK ... big Pom can be a deadline target for the Brewers again in 2020, after the Padres suck again
  5. That's fair. It's certainly a judgement call. I guess I was just never a big Ozzie guy. He always had a knack for timely hits, but I always saw him as a terrific defender who simply had a good enough bat to stay in the lineup. I mean, I know there is much more to offensive success than power, batting average and OPS, but when you look at Ozzie's career numbers in those areas, they don't scream HOF to me. So when I hear the argument that Omar shouldn't be in the HOF, Ozzie is the first guy I always think of.
  6. Yep ... and this might be the year.
  7. I think you need to define this, because when you look at the numbers, I'm just not seeing it. Ozzie got more fanfare, and had some timely hits in his career, but he was pretty pedestrian overall with the bat. OPS+. Baserunning. It's close, but it's clear. Also, just based on WAR, I'm guessing (and I admit it's a guess) that Ozzie was a significantly better defender according to metrics than Omar was. You point out that it was different eras, but then use baserunning as your proof that Ozzie was "clearly" better. That doesn't jive. Teams ran more in Ozzie's day. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting your use of the word "clearly". I read that is "substantially", which it's really marginal at best. If you feel like reading a deep dive on Omar's HOF credentials, this is a good, objective read: https://www.cooperstowncred.com/the-polarizing-hall-of-fame-case-of-omar-vizquel/

  9. Ozzie was so much better than Vizquel. Ozzie put up 60 WAR from 1982 until 1992 and had 10 seasons over 5 WAR in his career. Vizquel had 1. I think "so much better" is an over exaggeration. Vizquel has a better career OPS, had better power, and was also a good base runner while playing in an era when teams just ran less. Teams are never going to put up the kind of stolen base numbers they did in the 70s and 80s, and Smith's WAR is likely propped up by gaudy stolen base numbers early in his career. He got more hype for the crazy defensive plays and the "Wizard of Oz" stuff, but the two of them are probably as similar as you're going to find overall stat wise.
  10. That's going to be a terrific game. Really the only QB who has played very well against the Niners this year has been Kyler Murray. Jackson is definitely a step up from Murray. I have a hard time seeing the 49ers getting much going on offense against that Baltimore D though.
  11. If Ozzie Smith and his lifetime .666 OPS deserves a spot in the hall, so does Vizquel.
  12. Who knows what the heck DiPoto is going to look for in a deal? He's a total enigma with the deals he makes.
  13. I guess my application of the word "entitlement" when it comes to fans entails an often unrealistic or extremely difficult to attain expectation for the team, while concurrently showing a lack of appreciation for the team should it fall short of attaining said expectation. Is it realistic to "expect" multiple Super Bowl championships? The packers have, for the most part, been a competitive playoff-caliber team for more than 25 years. Yet you have a lot of fans that bemoan the idea that they have "only" won two championships during that time. I lived through cheering for this team in the 80s, and have heard so many stories about the frustrating 70s teams to know that success is fleeting, and very difficult to sustain. Perspective is important.
  14. Yes. We've had HOF caliber quarterbacks for 20 years and have been to the Super Bowl once in that period. I think it's fair to expect more. I temper expectations when it's warranted. I didn't expect a thing out of the Brewers in 2016 or 2017 and certainly didn't expect an NLCS in 2018. Seems like many want us to be sold on the idea that we should just be happy if we can go out, maybe win a division, maybe win a playoff game, rinse and repeat. I don't buy it. I think when you have one of the greatest QBs ever maybe it's okay to expect a little more. The bottom line is that these last 8 years have been a failure. And it's okay to say that. We've had Aaron Rodgers and we have had playoff teams most years and we haven't been to the Super Bowl. That does not meet expectations nor should it. And how is this not entitlement? It would seem to me to be a pretty much a textbook example. There unfortunately is a pretty fine line between expectation and entitlement.
  15. This all feels pretty gross. Agreed. Optics look pretty terrible.
  16. Certainly a possibility but wouldn't it be more beneficial for a team to have signed him to a major league deal than take him in the rule 5? Yeah ... but as a free agent, players are given the right to choose their next organization. The Rule 5 draft eliminates that choice. There have certainly been instances where a player who recently signed a minor league contract was taken in the Rule 5.
  17. I believe the Braves & White Sox are the only teams that have signed anybody of note so far, so I guess that means 28 other GMs haven't gauged the market either? Exactly. There has been a lot of gun jumping so far, even from long time posters who should probably know better. Patience is a virtue this time of year. The Brewers have money to spend, and there is no way that after this rebrand hoopla that they are going to go the "soft rebuild" route. Just let things play out a bit. They are going to make some exciting moves.
  18. Plus he doesn't have anywhere close to the injury risk. If the Brewers don't see a logical replacement for Grandal, I'm down with rolling with Pina and Nottingham, and using that saved $$$ to improve elsewhere.
  19. I love this team, but the fan base does have an extreme sense of entitlement, and has for some time. The Packers fan base is the NFL version of the St. Louis Cardinals fan base in baseball, and I could see how other fan bases would hate Packer fans. There are so many other teams that would absolutely love to be in the spot the Packers are in right now, but all we hear instead is this pretender or paper tiger stuff, or that it is another wasted season. It really isn’t if you just apply an ounce of perspective to the situation.
  20. Stop pouting and people won't do that. I know you're the only one sulking because the Packers got their clock cleaned and acting like the season is over. You spent the night arguing this straw man that the Packers aren't going to win the Super Bowl. Something I think a very small minority of people think they will do this year. There is always hope that the Packers will be a Super Bowl contender. Heck, they could still be. Last night was a bad game, but that’s all it was ... one game. This is a team that could still get hot and make noise. Like I said a few times last night, having some tempered expectations is a good thing now. There have been teams with more flaws than the Packers who have gotten hot and won it all.
  21. I might possibly see them doing something like this next offseason. Not now though. I think they find a way to fill the holes and continue on the contender path at least for another year.
  22. Good bat, but a poor defender. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Brewers made a play for him. We’d probably see a lot of Pina subbing in late for defense, but at least Narvaez could help fill the offensive hole left by Grandal’s departure.
  23. Packer fans have, for the most part, gotten to watch a top end QB perform year after year, while teams like the Bears and Vikings cycle through rejects trying to capture that magic. Calling the last 8 years a waste because the Packers haven’t won another Super Bowl is the definition of #Entitledtown in my opinion.
  24. It's also prime "Why aren't the Brewers making moves?" season for the very impatient fans. That's always fun.
  25. Says the guy who predicted a win and resulting #1 seed for us tonight and now you're saying we were never really that good. Of course I didn't expect a juggernaut in the top tier of teams coming into this season. As the season progressed, however, expectations change. As it did for many of you as well. I mean, come on, many people here were talking about us as Super Bowl contenders the last few weeks and prior to the Charger game and now that we've gotten stomped in San Francisco the narrative has changed back to "well we were never going to be a contender this year anyway." Easy to say now, even though it's a lot more obvious than it was 4 hours ago. Of course I'm disappointed that the team I thougt yesterday had a chance to play for a Super Bowl (and many of us did, if you're honest) looks now to be a team that is still a ways away. Heres where the value of time helps perspective. Tonight was a kick in the nuts. But it wasn't a season ender. I expect and hope you'll find some optimism after the sting of this one wears off.
