Burnes has a proven track record as a starter in the minors. Houser does not. There’s nothing that indicates this will work with him. Other than some people touting a “new” pitch that doesn’t seem very effective on his starts. I see a young, big horse of a kid who throws hard and has decent command of multiple pitches. I also see a pitcher who lost huge chunks of 2 upper minor league seasons due to TJ surgery. I would like to exhaust our options of using him as a starter before determining he's a reliever.
18 pitches for this guy in the first inning. Lots of whiffs, but at least they are working counts a bit. The earlier we can get him out, the better it appears,
wild card game is a 25-man roster. game 163 and anything beyond prior to the wild card game or nlds is a 40-man roster. Correct. But with a WC game you can deactivate the four rotation guys who aren't starting, and any reliever who would be unavailable. So kinda in between I guess.
We'll see Braun in there tomorrow versus the lefty I imagine. He needs his rest days, and tonight makes more sense than tomorrow. Gotta think Grandal finally gets a breather tomorrow in the day game.
DeJong hits a routine flyball that Soto loses in the sun with two outs, and ends up on 2nd. Then Skippy Edman drives him in. Because of course Cardinals.
I mean, maybe if the Nats have the lead and Scherzer was unhittable I let him hit there, but yeah, none of those things have happened. And with that, the Nats finally break through for a run.
Schumaker, Freese, Descalso, Jay, Piscotty, Grichuk, Wong, Pham, Gyorko, Bader, Edman. It's gonna suck when Scooter Gennett signs with them and puts up star numbers next year. I always viewed Gennett as the ideal Cardinal.
