  1. Gio is cruising. Surprised they are pulling him here. Hope that doesn't come back to bite them.
  2. Oblique injuries are extremely tough to get a read on, because they are a tough muscle to rehab. yeah, it's a bummer that it was on the longer edge of the timeline, but I wouldn't say the Brewers suffered too much not having Woody over the last 2-3 weeks. Where it hurts is that he won't by fully stretched out for the beginning of the postseason. My broader point is not about Woodruff or oblique injuries, but Brewers injuries in general. My rule of thumb is to take the back end of the range they give and add a week and that ends up being accurate as often as not. The worst example was when they said Greinke would miss two starts to start the 2011 season and he missed two months. They explained that they only meant that they would need a fifth starter only twice while Greinke was out, and even that was grossly understated. The other was saying Nelson would miss much of the first half of the 2018 season. It certainly seems like the Brewers medical staff is very conservative when it comes to players coming back from injury during the season. I don't know if that is necessarily a bad thing, though, I think it's important to remember that the injury timelines circulated to the media are often best-case scenarios.
  3. Yep ... I think everyone knows you're giving up defense playing Spangy at SS. Hopefully the bat continues to play.
  4. Why would he? Brewer fans have a legit reason to hate the guy, besides the fact that he's just kind of a dink.

  6. Woody looked just as nasty as he did during his near dominant stretch this year. Great to have him back. Two more starts in the regular season for him unless they decide to hold him for a possible Wild Card game.
  7. Imagine what it's been life for fans of the Cubs and Cardinals the last month watching as the Brewers barely ever lose and creep up the standings. Those teams haven't played poorly, yet have slowly lost ground. If I were a fan of them, I'd be very frustrated.
  8. Who is expecting that? I think if we get 3 solid innings and 45-50 pitches out of him tonight, mission accomplished. It's obviously going to take him time to get back to the point where he was really rolling in July. He just may not have enough time to get there, but that doesn't mean he can't be a very valuable member of the staff.
  9. That would be really cool. I just don't know if he's going to get consistent enough playing time to make a genuine difference, though. Perhaps if he puts together a few more productive pinch hit appearances, he may get a start again.
  10. All those guys are scum. But none are "inappropriate behavior with a 13-year-old"-level scum. Even if he finds some way to beat the charges, that's a pretty big scarlet letter hanging around his neck.
  11. This is my guess as well. If by some miracle, the evidence falls apart and he escapes serious criminal charges...that won't be enough. I think teams would opt to not sign this guy, can't imagine an agent needing the money that bad to want to represent him. It would take some sort of massive retraction from the police department saying they had it all wrong(which won't happen), for him to have any chance to pitch again. 100% correct. The guy is now a pariah. Best case for him is as a pariah. He's likely looking at up to 15 years in prison, followed by deportation.
  12. It would be one thing if Ben had ld them to two early season wins already before going down, but they are already 0-2, and there have been a lot of evident holes in the boat that don't really point to things turning around this year. Yeah, I suppose the young guy could come in and play well, but personally I think the Steelers ceiling was as a .500 team with a healthy Big Ben. Fitzpatrick isn't enough of a needle-moving talent that going to turn a middling to below-average defense into a stand-out unit.
  13. The only skeletons in our All-Star closer's closet are some moronic tweets he made as a 17 year old.
  14. What a horrible, sickening story. It's to the point where I'm pulling for the Pirates to get a win organization-wise. Kinda wish they had dealt Vazquez to the Dodgers for a heap of prospects at the deadline now. I'm sick of the Dodgers winning every move they make, or in this case don't make.
  15. Yes, that is correct. While there is not much margin for error, if the Brewers stay hot, they have a spot.
  16. Some pundits and talking heads seem to think that the Steelers made a decent move here. I just can't see it. Minkah Fitzpatrick is a solid player, but he's a player that is likely not fast enough to be a full time shut-down CB, and not physical/aggressive enough to be a stout safety. What you have is a Micah Hyde-type, which is a solid player that can start for multiple years and perhaps make a Pro Bowl or two. Is that worth what could be a top 5 draft pick in what is looking like a very solid draft? I get the feeling the Steelers are kinda getting the benefit of the doubt because they've basically been a well-run franchise personnel wise over the past decade. But this move, in my opinion, has all the markings of being a train wreck.
  17. In my ideal world, the Brewers continue winning their way to a division title, while the Cubs and Cardinals both #DERP their way out of the playoffs. I know the chances of that happening are about nothing. It would take the Nationals winning the next two then going on a run, and either the Phillies, Mets or DBacks basically winning out, while the Cubs and Cards beat on each other in their 7 games. The Cubs would need to ideally drop the next two to the Reds and somehow lose one or two to the Pirates next week on the road. In addition to the Cards losing the next two to the Nats, they'd need to get swept, or at least drop two of three to the DBacks on the road next week.
  18. I like your optimism, but I'm sure this would be frowned on by MLB if the Reds start a bunch of minor league scrubs against us next week in that series. Maybe they take those guys out of their starts earlier than they would normally do so, but I'm guessing we see all three of those guys, if it really is their turn in the rotation. Certainly not ideal for us. I almost feel like we might need to go into next week with a game or two lead for one of the WC spots - if we are really going to make this thing happen. Castillo's spot in the Reds rotation was last night, and they started Kevin Gausman instead. It would suck if the Reds skipped Castillo's start against the Cubs, only to start him against the Brewers.
  19. Agreed, along with the "This team is bad/sucks/is not even close to a playoff team" posts. Granted there was some truth to that statement at various points through the year, but they got deafening for awhile.
  20. Go Reds! Go Sonny Gray! As for Cards and Nats, go 18 inning game where each team wears out its pen. As long as the Brewers keep winning, the division title hopes are alive, so go Nats I guess.
  21. Classic! I wonder if those guys that jumped off the bandwagon "because it's Packers season" will jump back on at some point?
  22. Boy is it nice seeing Woodruff's name at the top of this thread again. I imagine we see three innings/45-50 pitches max out of Woody, but I don't care. He has two starts before being lined up for a possible Wild Card game.
  23. Well, they are already 0-2, and are looking at starting a green as grass QB the rest of the year. Perhaps they believe that Minkah is worth the possible (likely) top 5 pick they are giving up?
  24. Tomorrow is the Reds best shot. Sonny Gray has been pretty good. I am starting to doubt the potency of Derek Johnson's pixie dust.
