  1. That sounds good. And also we should think good thoughts. Ive heard fans enthusiasm and optimism really gives the team an extra one to two runs a game. Maybe a "hugs for everybody" night at the ole ball park. Or a "hands across Milwaukee" will do the trick That sounds nice
  2. His name really hasn't been brought up, but Aaron Sanchez appears to be back to full health, and brings Ace-type stuff and a pretty high upside. Just turned 27, and is controllable for 2+ seasons. He's a guy that would be a fun one to take a chance on.
  3. I was disappointed when they declined his option. I said this at the time: "Lyles was tossing it in there at an easy 97 with good movement in several of his appearances. He's got a terrific arm, and I agree he would have been a very nice arm to add to that stable of heat throwers. However, with the young guys likely getting more work this year, and Houser out of options and needing to stay up as an MLB pen arm, there may not have been room for Lyles. I'm positive they'll sign several Lyles-like MLB arms to minors deals and bring them to Spring Training, though, with the hope that they find a couple hidden gems." The state of this organization's pitching depth has certainly improved in the past couple years, but not to the point where they can jettison young (ish) power arms who are coming off decent years, are affordable, and have proven effective at retiring major league hitters. But then, I've been a strong supporter of the front office, so I don't think I qualify as the type of poster you are looking for.
  4. Kratz was going a good job handling certain pitchers. They found a hot streak with Pina catching certain guys and Kratz catching the rest. I think they explained that enough. Pina wears down if he’s the main guy. He’s better suited to split the load. This exactly. Was the playing time that Kratz got last year warranted? Probably not. But he had a few clutch hits in August, and his increased playing time coincided with the team getting red hot, so I think his inclusion in the lineup every day was more a case of not wanting to upset the apple cart. Pina is younger, a better hitter and a better defender. Kratz just had timing on his side. Don't underestimate how crazy baseball managers are about routine and riding the hot hand.
  5. This sounds like a much more reasonable response to the trade. Getting upset that the Brewers don’t nab a guy always seems odd to me because there’s just so many factors involved that we don’t know about. It leads you to a dark place with your mindset of the job Stearns and Co. are doing when in reality you have no idea what it would’ve took from the Brewers to get it done. Exactly ... thank you for more eloquently stating what I was attempting to convey. I totally get being disappointed that the team didn't acquire the player(s) we wanted them to, but there is always more to the story than what we see and what's reported on.
  6. There just isn't many decent rental starters available, hence the huge perceived interest in Wheeler. Decent peripherals point to the idea that he's a guy that could improve if he gets out of that trainwreck of a team he's on.
  7. Downgrade from what, though? Aaron Wilkerson is pretty much the only other option available for a spot start. Burch Smith has four more days before he can be recalled. Trey Supak just gave up 4 bombs in his first AAA start. Shelby Miller is rehabbing in Arizona. Zach Brown finally put up a decent start in his last time out, but has been pretty bad. Thomas Jankins and Bubba Derby would pretty much be the only other options, and while they have been ok, they aren't on the 40-man. This move is what it is ... buying a store-brand can of tomato soup to fill a bare cupboard.
  8. thing is with how little the Mets gave up MKE should've just beat that deal. How do we really know that the Mets gave up little, though? Both the pitchers they acquired are very highly thought of. Perhaps the Blue Jays had them ranked even higher? Every team is going to value prospects differently, and none of them are using MLB Pipeline's Top 100 or Organizational Top 30 lists, I'll guarantee you that.
  9. What's likely to happen is that we're going to likely see a few trades today, and craziness tomorrow.
  10. Can’t imagine what Braun would be doing to it then. #RyanBraunForever Exactly. Any AAA stats should be taken with an enormous block of salt this year. I love that Grisham has seemingly started to figure it out, but let's slow our roll a bit on making room on his mantle for an NL MVP award.
  11. Pen game today, and Jordan Lyles' re-debut tomorrow! The A's aren't gonna know what hit them!
  12. Ponce has been downright horrible as a starter, and was shifted to the pen. He is 25 years old and is still in AA. He's about as much of a nothingburger as a prospect as you're going to get. He would have also needed to be protected on the 40-man after this season, and there was no way that was going to happen. Ponce goes down as another failed high pitching pick.
  13. The Brewers don't have the players the D'backs would want for Ray, much less Ray and Peralta/Ahmed. How do you know that?? As of yesterday the Brewers were still "engaged" on Ray. Jon Heyman @JonHeyman · 15h Brewers and Astros remain engaged on Robbie Ray. Yanks and others also interested. Unless he works for the Diamondbacks' front office, he most assuredly DOES NOT know this, so you have a point there. In the end, it's a matter of what the Brewers' are willing to give up, and how highly the other team values those pieces. Anything more than that is simply hyperbole, which is exactly what this particular poster is engaging in in this case.
  14. Seems to be a lot of his type lately around here. I guess if we can have anti-heroes, we can also have anti-fans.
  15. You're basing your conclusion on the fact that they made a minor deal for a depth pitching piece two days before the deadline. All I have to say is Wow.
  16. I'm in the same situation as a Sling TV user. Going to go with Hulu Live TV tomorrow more than likely. The nice thing is none of these streaming services require a contract, so if Sling get's they crap worked out with Fox Sports/Disney, I can just switch back to that.
  17. I think the caliber of prospects dealt so far is actually right in the wheelhouse of what the Brewers have to offer. No one has traded anything that can be considered a top-flight prospect yet.
  18. Roark for Ernesto who is hitting a whopping .236 in rookie ball and Williams who is the poster boy for AAAA players? A starter for two bums? Burnes, Lutz, and Fry would be part of a pkg for Ray, not anywhere close to a complete pkg. Burnes has regressed horrendously, Lutz is hitting .241 with 119 Ks in 362 ABs, and Fry is just now getting to Appleton. The D'backs GM would be fired on the spot if he made that deal. Gray hit .182 in Rk ball last year and is even worse this year. Brown has been so horrible at AAA (5.98 ERA - 111 hits and 58 ERs in only 86 IPs) he has next to no value other than a throw-in. While the Brewers would love to make any of your deals, the other teams would laugh hysterically. This is astoundingly short-sighted. It sure is a good thing that teams don't value players entirely on stats they put up in their teens. I would love to hear your realistic trade thoughts.
  19. Given all the deals the Brewers and White Sox have done over the years, the Brewers' current need for a starter, and Nova's probable low price, this one makes a ton of sense. I could very easily see this deal going down in the next few days.
  20. Perhaps Brew4u is simply trying to get you fired up? If that is the case, it has worked. But in all seriousness, he hasn't said anything that doesn't make sense on some level. I am personally in favor of buying, but I totally get the idea of selling off a few short-termers, helping rebuild their prospect capitol, then going for it next year. It's the guys that talk about trading off the Yeliches and Haders that I simply don't understand.
  21. Not being condescending at all, but you'd really give up 2 of those 3 or all three for a rental in Wheeler and a schizophrenic bullpen arm?? I would rather put that on the table for Robbie Ray to be honest. Idk, I know Arcia sucks, and Burnes has been bad this year, but he is young, has a power arm and tons of control left. I'm all for trading Arcia and Burnes and Turang, I'd just like to think a package like that could bring back more than this. Are you like two different people? Holy hell are you strange. One minute it’s sell anyone and everything for a player and then next you’re questioning another poster who is talking about moving guys to get something of value. Wheeler isn't a big enough name. He wants a guy who has an ACE reputation, regardless of how bad that pitcher actually is now.
  22. The Brewers could win easy tomorrow, and take every game up to the deadline, and there would still be members here who want to sell. And that's fine. (No, I'm not one of them)
