  1. That's kinda the cherry on top of this game so far Kinda hoping we don't even see Kimbrel next week, though. Yeah, I see he has his ERA below double digits now. Hope we smack him around too. I'm sorta hoping he doesn't have a reason to get up off the bullpen bench all series.

  3. They need an backup infielder capable of playing SS, though. I mean, I guess you could stick Moose or Shaw there in a pinch, but it isn't ideal.
  4. Pretty cool seeing the return of the 2017 version of Chase Anderson so far. He's attacking the zone and has been pretty dang efficient with his pitches.
  5. I can man up and admit that you are 100% right on Hiura, TBBC. He's exceeded my expectations in a big way. That bat has the chance of truly being difference-making. I liked him as a prospect, but in no way did I think he was going to be ready this year. I was WAY off.
  6. I’m probably the only one that’s gonna boo this move, but I get it. I also believe there’s a possibility of Jimmy being a real weapon out of the pen, but it’s gonna be all about his command of his pitches. I also think, one pen arm acquisition would be the max now, imo, with The aforementioned info. I don't think there's much reason to boo the move. Woodruff followed a very similar path last season, bouncing between the rotation, pen and AAA, before finding a home in the pen in August, and turning into a shut-down reliever that had a huge part in catapulting the team into the playoffs. Obviously we've all seen how he's been able to build off his success last year and become a high-end starter this season. Now Houser may not have the high-end stuff Woodruff brings to the table, as few do. But it's pretty dang close, and he has the chance to truly be a difference maker out of the pen for the rest of this season.
  7. While any talk of "must win" games is probably a little silly at this juncture, I agree that this afternoon's game feels like it has a little bit of extra significance. It would be pretty great to see the team come off of last night's offensive explosion with another well-played game. I know another good game would at least do the fanbase a lot of good. Last's night's game was a pretty sweet reminder of what it feels like to be a Brewer fan in good times.
  8. I'm sure they do want that. Wanting something and actually receiving is not necessarily a given.
  9. @AdamMcCalvy 2m2 minutes ago More Gio Gonzalez is rejoining the Brewers rotation on Saturday. Adrian Houser back to the bullpen. @Todd_Rosiak 2m2 minutes ago More Jimmy Nelson will begin a minor-League rehab stint Sunday at Class A Wisconsin. Will remain as a reliever. Both of these tidbits are great news. While I really like Houser's future as a starter, he was nails out of the pen. Nelson is obviously more of a crapshoot, but how awesome would it be to see him come back and be a solid contributor out of the pen during the stretch run? I know his starts weren't great this year, but he seemed to be pretty effective in the first couple innings nearly every time out before losing his command. Perhaps getting used out of the pen will allow him to let it fly a bit more?
  10. I wonder where he would fit on the Brewers? He's had very effective stretches as both a starter and reliever. I guess one could view it as a case of "you can never have enough solid pitchers" regardless of where he's used.
  11. Saladino is basically Counsell without the weird batting stance, so it's easy to see where the love comes from.
  12. Lineup: Cain - CF Yelich - RF Braun - LF Hiura - 2B Aguilar - 1B Pina - C Arcia - SS Saladino - 3B Anderson - P Odd that both Moose and Yasmani are getting breather days on the same day, but I guess I get it with Keuchel on the hill. Those looking for Hiura to be moved up will be happy.
  13. It would certainly be nice to have a ready-made replacement for Ryan Braun at the team's disposal. I agree that this track likely makes the most sense ... let him get his feet wet in a timeshare with Braun in 2020 before taking over the role in 2021. Of course, Braun is anything but durable at this point in his career, so who knows if that track gets adjusted? I imagine that we'll see Tyrone Taylor (depending on his health) if an OF injury replacement is needed this year, simply because he's already on the 40-man, and is probably a little more versatile in the OF. That's not to say that Grisham wouldn't deserve it more given his results this year.
  14. The difference between Ray & Grisham is Massive. Ray Ks like many big league brewers do now, while Grisham is exactly the type of hitter this offense needs, low K, high on base, with power. Rare combination, that’s why he can help now, plate approach matters. I give you credit. When you get your mind on something, you go ALL IN, and no one is going to get you off of that idea, no matter how much logic is presented. I totally get that there is a difference in approach between Ray and Grisham. But that really wasn't the point I was attempting to make. Obviously the Brewers felt that the season Corey Ray had in 2018 was impressive enough, warts and all, to honor him with their player of the year honor. Grisham is having an outstanding season, and is trending toward perhaps receiving that honor this year. While that is obviously great, it doesn't mean that calling him up, putting Braun on the bench and Gamel in San Antonio, it the prudent course of action at this time.
  15. After last night's offensive outburst, hopefully the bats show up again today, and the Brewers can scratch and claw their way to a win. Thanks to Woody's pen-saving performance last night, only Jay Jackson is going to be down this afternoon. Hopefully last night was the start of a run, and by this time next week, the Brewers have a nice shopping list of what they need to go for the division title.
  16. Wow, the Giants are really following the 2018 Pirates instruction manual on how to attain fake contender status before the trading deadline. They are going to end up keeping all those relievers, and MadBum, and probably trade for an OF to boot.
  17. I love that Grisham is seemingly breaking out this season, but lets slow our roll a bit on making him the Brewers' starting LF. He's not even on the 40-man roster yet, and has had very limited playing time in AAA, hitting against pitchers who don't have much of a scouting report on him. Let's see him sustain this level of play for the next 6 weeks, and then maybe we look at a September call-up, and perhaps a chance to earn a role next spring. Remember, last year Corey Ray was tearing the cover off the ball, on the way to the team's offensive minor league player of the year award. While injuries have played a major role his his season this year, he's regressed. Hopefully Grisham continues his strong showing, and keeps moving himself up the national prospect rankings.
  18. He's been playing CF most of the time this year, but if I remember right, his arm isn't great out there, and he profiles more as a LF, should the bat support it. I imagine he has a capability of playing CF the same way Yelich does ... i.e. sure, it's fine in a pinch, but probably not a great permanent solution.
  19. You're right. Houser gave up 6 runs in 4 innings on July 6, and Davies had a bad start at the end of June. Guess I had the short memory on those LOL. Other than that, they've been ok. Certainly good enough that the team should have a better record given the talent they have in the lineup. For them to go on a 12-3 type stretch, they are just going to need more consistency across the board. No more great starting pitching performances that are wasted when they can't get the bats going. No more handing the ball to a gas can reliever with a 4 run lead, and hoping beyond hope that they can hang on until it's time for Hader to come in. Frankly, they are going to need some of their underperforming hitters to play better, and perhaps some "lightning in a bottle" with the pitching staff.
