  1. This is probably going to be too pessimistic for certain posters on this board but I'm not going believe they have turned a corner until they can show that this pitching staff can go through the rotation a couple of times at an acceptable level of performance. I need to see the consistency with the pitching. I've actually been pretty happy with the starters over the last few weeks. It seems they've figured things out for the most part there. I'm having a hard time remembering when the last time they had a starter who was shelled. The bullpen, however, has been a dumpster fire lately. So if you are talking about the pitching staff as a whole, I agree.
  2. Agree with this completely. They need to be scouring the trade market for a couple of pen arms. Maybe they might have something here in Jay Jackson, and I suppose if Gio comes back then a pitcher (perhaps Houser) will get shuffled to the pen, but there is still a big need out there for a couple guys who can throw late in the game that you have some confidence in.
  3. If Davies can continue his roll against everyone not named the Pirates, I like our 1,2.. I may be 1 of the few who loves watching Davies pitch. Count me as a big Davies fan as well. His stuff is far from overpowering, and he looks like an 18-year-old, but when healthy, all he's done is produce. And still, you continue to see him thrown into trade conversations. He's not a Woodruff-like ace type, but he's still the type of pitcher you can build around.
  4. I really like Gamel as a "gamer" type, but he strikes me as the type that wouldn't be as good if he played more, if you know what I mean. I guess it's kind of hard to explain ... but he's kind of like Hernan Perez in a way. A nice player in small doses, but if he's a regular, I feel like teams will figure him out. He's a perfect 4th OF, and for any team that employs Ryan Braun as a starting OF, Gamel is going to play a lot.
  5. If he pitches the final two innings tonight, he may be on a plane for San Antonio tomorrow regardless. That seems to be the MO for the shuttle guys.
  6. He's defied my expectations for him, and I'll happily say I was way wrong. I originally didn't think he'd be ready this year, but that bat is legit right now.
  7. I'm sure Counsell had the shakes letting Woody face the Braves lineup a third time through. Facing them a 4th time might give him an aneurism.
  8. Pretty much dominated a really solid, hot lineup tonight. Pretty scary turning it over to the pen here. Do they go to Hader for two innings tonight? They can't keep doing that, can they? I mean, you need your closer to have more availability.
  9. I'm from Puerto Rico...what are you trying to say? Did my comment to someone else really offend you? Just a guess, but I'm thinking Brew4u is chuckling right now. He helps keep things light around here.
  10. The funny thing is that several of the uber-negative "regulars" haven't posted tonight. It makes me think that there are several that only log on to the site to post IGT negativity. Sorry, I've been busy... LOL ... that wasn't directed at you mtrebs. I think you have a great viewpoint on the team. You do a nice job backing up your viewpoints, especially the negative ones, in an engaging and thoughtful way.
  11. You want to argue ... ok. How was I being snide? Several of the regular pessimistic posters haven't shown up tonight in a game the team is playing well. Granted it could be a total coincidence, but most have been IGT regulars during this slide. Just connecting the dots.
  12. It seems to be a typical development trajectory for certain starters. Nobody struggled worse at times than Jimmy Nelson before he had his breakout (pre-injury obviously). Woodruff’s path has been very similar to Nelson’s in my opinion. This train of thought gives me a lot of hope for Burnes and Houser. Pretty similar type stuff from all those guys.

He complains about the snide remarks here, with a snide remark. Hypocrisy isnt even a thing anymore I guess. LOL whatever guy that joined two hours ago.

  15. I wonder the same thing. What more do guys like Supak, Williams and Griep have to prove in Huntsville? There is plenty of expendable pitching on that AAA roster.
  16. I think the argument is more "If you aren't going to play your 24-year-old SS, you should be playing your 24-year old AAA SS."
  17. Having that bat in the lineup is huge. If they can only get a couple others going (Cain and Braun), they offense could really do some damage.
  18. Arcia must have really done something bad to get in Counsell's doghouse. I'm having trouble understanding why Dubon isn't getting this playing time at the ML level, though. Dubon is quite possibly part of the future of this team. Saladino likely isn't.
  19. Agreed ... he has really taken a big step this year. He looks very similar to what Jimmy Nelson looked like in 2017. Woodruff probably has a little more on his fastball, though.
