I apologize if it appears that I was attributing the "“dumpster fire with no hope of doing anything in the playoffs” idea to you. That was more of a general statement that probably envelopes a number of posters here. I don't really think it should be met with any sort of surprise, though, that when the posters who are consistently negative and pessimistic make those type of assertions, they will be met with others who make an aggressive attempt to refute them. And so what if someone disagrees with your view and believes that the offense is just fine. It's a message board. People are going to disagree. Why rip on those who are using advanced stats as part of their argument? For the record, I'm not a fan of this article. It cherry picks advanced stats to paint a negative picture of the rest of the season, without taking the idea of internal improvement or outside acquisitions into consideration.

That was a lot of words to make a point that I'm not sure needed to be made. Tellez is not a superstar, but he's far from the top of this team's problems. He's a solid defensive 1B, and is one of the few bats that opposing teams need to take note of. Even if this team acquires a bat like Josh Bell or Mancini, it is likely that Tellez will continue to see regular at bats.

Absolutely no one is saying the offense is just fine. What posters are disagreeing with is the assertion that the offense is a lost-cause dumpster fire, and that the team has no hope of doing anything in the playoffs. Those are two very different ideas.

Very good point. I guess I tend to sometimes conveniently forget some of the weirdness that 2020 brought.

What is Shook's deal in your guys' opinion? Is this simply a case of an advanced college arm dominating younger and less experienced competition, or is it possible the Brewers unearthed an undrafted FA gem? What does he throw, and is anything overpowering?

A mea culpa of sorts
Ron Robinsons Beard commented on Brent Sirvio's blog entry in Send [Chris] Hook
There's a reason why the Brewers were able to acquire Narvaez for basically a nothingburger prospect and a pick. He has limitations, and was considered poor defensively. But most catchers have limitations. In fact, considering Narvaez's defensive improvement, I really don't think there are more than 4-5 catchers in all of MLB I'd take over him. That doesn't mean he's really a stud. What it does mean is that there just aren't that many stud catchers out there right now. Narvaez is a solid starting catcher on a playoff-caliber team. He isn't going to put up superstar numbers, but he isn't going to hurt you with the bat or in the field either. And that has a lot of value. -
Article: Eric Lauer: Brewers' Hidden Gem
Ron Robinsons Beard replied to Tim Muma's topic in Brewer Fanatic Front Page News
I think at this point Grisham and Urias have basically cancelled each other out. Grisham looked great in 2020, but was pretty meh last year. Whereas Urias looked like a solid building block last year after a poor 2020 showing, If Urias could have stuck at SS, I think it was an easy win for the Brewers. A little closer if he's a 3B only moving forward. I wouldn't be surprised if they already have him pegged as the 2B of the future, though, once Wong's deal is up. It's easy to forget that he's still only 24. Lauer looking like a potential stud lefty starter at only 26 makes this an easy Brewers win. Davies was decent in his one season as a Padre, and was then used as basically a throw-in for the Darvish salary dump trade. He's now getting close to washing out of the league. -

I doubt that the Brewers are going to want to start the arby clocks on any of their true prospects unless those guys were going to play a substantial role.

If any of these guys get a shot (discounting injury), my guess is Dahl. The Brewers love to give LHH outfielders who have had some MLB success a trial run, and if Renfroe doesn't start hitting, Dahl is an easy swap against right-handers. He's a solid defender in the corners, with the capability of playing CF in a pinch. He could also see some time at DH.

Right. The Narvaez hate in this article seems incredibly nitpicky and misplaced. Other than not hitting much in the pandemic year, he's been good. I'd say he's a step below Grandal, but it's a small step. He's improved his defense to the point where it is a positive. Regardless of what a stupid site like Fangraphs says, he's a top 10 MLB catcher. Not so bad for a bag of ball trade.
