  1. I think the key is that you typically aren't tied in to any sort of contract with a streaming service, so you can jump around. Like if you want to watch the Brewers, you can get AT&T TV April through September, then just drop it ... with no fuss. If you want to watch the new season of Ted Lasso in July, you can get Apple TV, watch what you want to watch, then drop it. I think people appreciate having the flexibility of not being tied down to a two-year contract. At least I do. Yeah, right now I am paying for AT&T TV, Netflix and the Disney bundle (Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu). It's roughly $115, which is right around what I was paying for DISH Network a few years ago before I dropped it. But with kids, I'd probably still be paying for Netflix and the Disney stuff even if I was still with DISH, and I wouldn't have the Brewers (since DISH dropped the Fox Sports RSNs). So to me, while the price is a little higher right now, I'm still coming out ahead in the long run.
  2. Been watching Resident Alien lately. It just finished its first season run on the SyFy Network. Kind of a Sci Fi "dramady" (think kind of a cross between X-Files and Fargo) but it is really funny.
  3. Yep ... should probably serve as a warning to those pushing for the Brewers to trade Hader. They'd probably be lucky to get 1-2 prospects back the caliber of Diaz and Harrison, let alone a Top 25 MLB prospect like Brinson was at the time. Ironic considering all of the success these two franchises have had over the years trading proven talent for prospects. But I suppose that is all invalidated by this singular example. Not in the least. But that doesn't mean that caution shouldn't be exercised. Prospects who are highly ranked by outside ranking services are not always the end-all, be-all. Brinson, Diaz and Harrison were all certainly "shiny object"-type prospects. It's more of a statement on tempering expectations on any sort of return on Hader more than anything.

  5. I was perhaps the biggest Wade Miley detractor. I absolutely hated that move. I hated the idea of him taking up a rotation spot. I thought he was done ... and that he wasn't any good to begin with. And I couldn't have been more wrong. Which is why I'm commenting on player moves on a internet message board, and not working for an MLB front office LOL. I loved the Yelich trade at the time, but the deal certainly wasn't without risk, which I think was reflected in the comments of those posters who didn't approve.
  6. They are ... but the Spiderman movies are distributed by Sony Entertainment and not Marvel Studios. It was part of the agreement that Sony signed with Disney to give Disney (Marvel Studios) creative control of the Spiderman movies after Sony's attempts with Andrew Garfield bombed. I would imagine those Spiderman movies will eventually end up on Disney+, but probably not for awhile.
  7. I've heard of NY style and Chicago style... but what is Detroit style? Tastes like defeat? There is St Louis style pizza too...specifically involving provel cheese. I bet that pizza thinks it's WAY better than the other pizzas, too.
  8. Internet (Frontier DSL - my only option) - $45/month Netflix - $13/month Hulu + Disney + - ESPN+ - $12/month Over the air network TV - free (I did buy a $45 antenna a couple years ago) We already get Amazon Prime for free shipping, so the viewing options are a bonus. Total is $70/month. Considering I previously was paying $160/month for a DISH Network/Frontier DSL internet package, we are seeing substantial savings. I live in an area where Spectrum is not offered, nor is any cable TV provider. I bought YouTubeTV last summer for the Brewers, then cancelled when the season was over. Summer before that I used Sling TV for Brewer games. Not sure what I'm going to do this year if Bally's doesn't figure something out. My options are limited to AT&T TV (I've tried it, and my internet speeds are not really good enough for it) or DirecTV. Guess we'll see what happens.
  9. It's the show that 2020 needed
  10. YouTube TV has a much better platform, and it isn't really close IMO. It really is pretty awesome. Hulu Live TV has gotten a lot better in the last 12 months, but YouTube TV has better responsiveness and fewer glitchy issues. Thanks, I know a few people with Hulu...no one with YouTube TV though. It does seem most of them have issues with Hulu on a pretty regular basis. One time the Packers game crashed on an intense final drive...talk about a cringe moment. I am hoping the FOX RSNs will come back before the start of baseball season. From what I read a major reason that hasn't happened yet is because COVID pretty well ruined the sports seasons and right now there is not much reason to try and make a deal because now those sports are over. It would be in the Fox RSN's best interest to get something figured out soon in time for the start of the NBA season. I'm hoping that Sinclair's partnership with Bally's (the sports betting company) might open some things back up soon.

  12. I wouldn’t be optimistic. Many other services lost Fox before Hulu did...none have revived it. MLB and/or the teams themselves are going to have to step in I think on this. The contract with Sinclair I'm sure indicates that the channel needs to be offered to a certain number of people in the home market, and not having it available anywhere would be a breach of contract. I personally home Sinclair burns for this. It is utterly terrible. It is easy to blame both sides when these carriage disagreements happen with one carrier. But when nearly every one of them drops the channel, that's on the channel's ownership. What joke.
  13. Just finished up Ted Lasso last night. If one could have elected a fictitious television character to serve as president in last week's election, Mr. Lasso would have won in a landslide. "I wrote it on a back of a take-out menu, but I signed it, so it's legit!" - classic!
  14. That show was much better than it had any right to be. Thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife and I are through episode 7, and it has been a very enjoyable watch. This world needs more people like Ted Lasso right now. It's one of those shows that makes you feel better after watching it. We need more positivity in the world right now.
  15. Just got an email that Hulu Live is dropping Fox Sports Wisconsin since they were unable to come up with an agreement with Sinclair. Are there any streaming services left that offer Fox Sports Wisconsin? AT&T is the last one standing. $80 a month with the extended sports package you'd need to get it.
  16. Yup, all fun and games at first, now that things are settling, they'll end up not being as great of a value as most anticipated. I have stuck with cable all this time, and though it costs more, I have no complaints with service or channel offerings. The issue is that not everyone, mainly those who live in rural areas, has access to cable television (raises hand). And cable companies aren't going out of their way to provide access to rural areas, because the overhead doesn't justify the increase in infrastructure investments. So what I'm left with is satellite television or streaming services, and my options with satellite are basically AT&T TV (DirecTV) if I want FS Wisconsin.
  17. I've been using Hulu Live TV all summer, and it is much improved over what they were putting out last year. Very few complaints this time around.
  18. I'm through episode 7 of Season 2. Really well done show. I was looking for something comic book-y to pass the time until Season 2 of The Boys hits in a couple weeks, and Umbrella Academy has filled that roll nicely for me. Definitely darker than your typical comic book fare, but also really intriguing character development and narrative twists.
  19. Monte Harrison may end up being the best of all of them. He's got a -.1 WAR in 23 ABs so far in his MLB career.
  20. Satellite internet is still very hit and miss (mostly miss) on the speed and connection. It is great if all you are using it for is surfing the web and getting emails. If you are doing anything like working from home good luck with that as your connection will be dropped a lot it will also feel like you are on dial up when doing conference calls and forget video because that is not going to work all that well. If you want to stream movies or shows satellite internet is also going to be a huge let down as you are going to be luck to get 480p from it. Also if you like to play video games online this will also not work as you will have a high ping and latency is going to be an issue. Elon Musk's starlink I believe it is called also has the same issues though once the technology gets worked more this should improve though plugging into a line will still be the fastest and most reliable way to get onto the internet. Starlink's low-earth satellites "should" provide a much stronger signal than current satellite options. From what I've been told, it has the capability of offering speeds comparable to lined cable internet, and one of Musk's key talking points with the project is that it will also be affordable. Current satellite internet is a terrible value.
  21. That's even more rural than my "rural" LOL. The only way things are going to improve in this neck of the woods is if a politician up here champions broadband and cellular infrastructure improvements, which means companies would need to get federal money to improve the infrastructure. It's always going to be a sunken cost due to the lack of population density. As for the best cellular carrier up here, I've had the best luck with Verizon ... or at least carriers that use Verizon towers. AT&T has dead spots all over.
  22. I would guess that the cell companies are less likely to expand coverage for the few it would help. Cost/benefit not really there for them honestly. Upgrading speed capacity in congested areas is big. The better option is probably going to fome from satellite internet and then connecting via wifi to that connection. Yeah that's what I figured. And in a way it makes sense. I always knew getting paid internet and wifi would be fine in and next to the actual residences, but a lot of being up there is being outside. And of course it's nice being nice to be "unplugged", but on the other hand it would be nice to check a brewer score for instance! I live right between Three Lakes and Eagle River, so I can attest to the poor internet options up here. They are, in fact, terrible. The absolute best internet I can get at my home is DSL with a 6 mbps max. There are better options though fiber optic cable if you live in town, but if you are more rural, good luck. I've been told that the rural areas here don't have the population density (enough homes per square mile) for any high speed internet service to add the infrastructure needed. It's simply a poor investment for them. There's a lot of hope up here that Starlink will be operational within the next year or so. This affects cellular coverage, as cell signal is used and abused up here in the summer by people coming on vacation from down south. We don't have the cellular infrastructure to handle the influx up here, but since it's only for 3 months, the companies never improve it, and the locals are left to suffer through it.
  23. I believe you can get Fox Sports Wisconsin on AT&T TV as well, but it's on one of their extra tiers. Sinclair has done an absolute terrible job keeping their RSNs available. What an absolute joke of a company.
  24. I am leaning the same way, as I already have the Hulu/Disney/ESPN+ bundle. The last time I used Hulu Live TV, though, (probably August 2019) I was really disappointed in the platform. The YouTube TV one is very good.
  25. Agreed ... I watched Community when it was on NBC weekly and always enjoyed it. I was never a Parks and Rec watcher until recently, though. It's been my binge show every night lately after the kids are in bed, and it's awesome. I'm about mid-way through Season 3.
