  1. I mean I know you are being sarcastic and this isn't the point here (quite excited for Keston myself!), but to be honest, yes. If Keston never goes back down and graduates from the prospect list, it's a pretty bad system. Turang probably becomes our top prospect. Close between Lutz and Ray for #2. There's some excitement for pitching talent in a couple years with Rassmussen and Ashby but nothing real close other than Brown who is struggling. It's definitely a system entering a "rebuild" phase, but that's okay. It becomes a little trickier making deadline deals for rentals, though. Totally OK. There are still plenty of guys to be excited about, too. Dubon, Nottingham, Taylor, Ray and Stokes certainly at the AAA level. It's next man up. This isn't like the mid 2000s when the farm was completely barren after Fielder, Weeks, Hart and later Braun were elevated. This system is better top to bottom, and that is a credit to Stearns and the scouting staff.
  2. Literally no one is saying that. Come on guys ... this is a cool event. Don't turn it into another pissing match. There is no fault in keeping expectations tempered.
  3. Where in the world is that idea coming from? I see a ton of optimism here. Yeah, some guarded optimism, but optimism all the same. Don't turn what should be a fun day into a fight.
  4. New Olreans to Philly is a 3 hour flight. Whether he flew out either late last night or early this morning likely won't matter. I can't see them holding him out of the lineup tonight. He's up to play regularly.
  5. I don't see that at all. He looks fine physically. I think his issues are on the mental side.
  6. I can't see them throwing Hiura into the #3 hole in his major league debut. Eventually he has the bat to get there, but it isn't going to be tonight. Cain Yelich Braun Moose Aguilar Grandal Hiura Woodruff Arcia
  7. Agreed. I doubt Shaw just suddenly had a wrist injury. Brewers sure could have used that bat the last 4 games. I get the feeling that Shaw's last three ABs last night sealed it. Two pretty hapless looking Ks and a lazy fly. I predict he takes 10 days off, then goes on a minor league rehab to AAA. Hopefully that does the trick. The Brewers are going to need that bat working again.
  8. Yeah, you don't call up a prospect the caliber of Hiura to have him collect dust behind Perez and get a PH appearance every game. He's going to start at 2B as long as he's here. While it's important to temper expectations I think, it is also important to note that Moose should continue his fine work with the bat as the predominant 3B. It is Hiura's job to put up better production than Shaw. I imagine he should be able to do that. I like that this makes us less LHH heavy.
  9. Spangenberg DFA'd to make room on the 40-man.
  10. Earlier than I figured, but exciting all the same.
  11. Spots like that should just be reserved for Barnes. Down by 3 in the 8th. That is the perfect low-leverage opportunity where Barnes looks like a future hall of famer.
  12. I keep telling myself that all they have to do is get through the next couple weeks, and it will be time to sink their teeth into that tender June schedule.
  13. That is where having a nearly full time OF who is pretty consistently nicked up is a killer. Perez is typically ok in the OF, but he's really not an outfielder.
  14. Good thing they have 119 to go after this then. The Brewers have been advertising that “every game counts”. Last year proved that to be true. Every team is going to look great in 54 games and crappy in 54 games. It's the remaining 54 that decide who is good. Just gotta hope that this is one of the 54 crappy ones.
  15. Cain’s on base 100 points lower than last year, that’s a massive regression. 2 black holes and 1 super massive black hole. Cain with a 5 for 5 game. Who else can you reverse jinx by prematurely saying they suck?
  16. You're welcome. I like how I say Dubon looks like a utility guy - and then he goes and pops 2 HR and raises his OPS by 40-50 points. Does that mean if you say Grisham profiles as a AAAA guy, he'll turn into Hank Aaron?
  17. Cain’s on base 100 points lower than last year, that’s a massive regression. 2 black holes and 1 super massive black hole. Cain will turn it around. Too good of a player not to. I believe in Shaw as well, because the track record is there. Aguilar I'm more leery on, but I think he'll at least be better than he has been. Sometimes guys just go through long stretches of poor hitting.
  18. I think Nelson has actually been on the 10-day IL since his injury. I have no idea why. There is no IL in the offseason, so he'd have to take up a spot on the 40 man during that time no matter what, but I have no idea why he was on the 10 day IL all of last year. Jimmy spent all of 2018 on the 60-day DL. He was placed there March 30.
  19. It's a half year rental, so age is completely insignificant. And also just because a team's fanbase floats an idea, it doesn't mean that the idea makes any sense. Would the Giants want Carlos Martinez, who is making nearly $12 million this year, if they are in a rebuild? There is no way the Brewers should even entertain trading a prospect the level of Lutz for a rental reliever. Nor do I think he'd cost close to that much to acquire. You are significantly overvaluing the rental market, or undervaluing our prospects.
  20. Smith pitching better than Soria and for less money, wish you were right, but think it be a higher cost. Soria had a 2.56 ERA and 16 saves at the time of the deal, so he was pitching great. He also had a larger track record as a closer than Smith, and the White Sox sent money the Brewers' way to help offset Soria's remaining salary. If the deal is made earlier in the year, the cost may be more significant, but value wise, they are very close. Smith being a lefty may raise his value a tad, but I don't believe a trade for Smith is going to cost the Brewers a top 5-10 prospect.
