  1. Jonah Williams to Bengals. Packers on the clock.
  2. I'm going to say Sweat, Burns or trade down. Maybe an OT
  3. Wow Pittsburgh with a trade up!
  4. Please raiders please love Haskins. #24 and #27 would be terrific.
  5. #12 is looking like a prime spot for a QB trade up. Gute loves to deal.
  6. The Lions should take O-Line or WR. But they won't
  7. Giants take a QB in Jones ... draft is falling nicely for the Packers so far
  8. Agree wholeheartedly. The best talent needs to be on the MLB roster. It's up to Counsell and the major league staff to utilize that talent in the most effective manner.
  9. Word is breaking now that Sweat was misdiagnosed, and the heart "issue" really isn't an issue at all. That might change things. If I'm the Packers, and Sweat is sitting there at #12, it would be hard not to consider him.
  10. The pitcher would either need to be very good (think Ace-level) for 4-5 years, or just good enough, and young enough, to hold down a rotation spot for a decade. Outside of the obvious guys like Peralta and Burnes, who are young and have ace-level stuff, the guy that comes to mind is Zach Davies. He's only 26, and is already off to a nice start win total-wise. He's not a power pitcher, and is just good enough to hold down a mid-rotation spot for the next decade.
  11. Counterpoint on Simmons: He was in high school at the time, and was supposedly defending his sister after the lady threatened her and brought up the sister's history of miscarriages. Scary situation that he handled like an idiot no doubt, but I think it's important to see both sides. He was known as a team leader with absolutely no character concerns in his time in college. I'm not arguing that the incident isn't an issue, but that it may be possible that it's being blown out of proportion.
  12. I'd have a real hard time picking a player that high when it's guaranteed he won't play a down in year one. Common sense says you have to downgrade him by 20% based on that alone. Then one has to assume that he comes back from the injury at 100%. Hard for me to believe that there aren't 12 players better in the draft after the grade is adjusted for the above factors. I do like Simmons as a player and think he could be very special as there aren't that many guys that could fit as a NG, DT or DE in the Packers defense, and Simmons likely could play any of those spots. I also don't have any problems with the incident from many years ago, sounds like Simmons has demonstrated plus-plus character during his time at Mississippi State and McGinn talked to 15 NFL guys about it and all 15 said they weren't concerned with Simmons character moving forward. Journal-Sentinel writers have made the following predictions: Silverstein = ILB-Devin Bush/Michigan and OT-Kaleb McGary/Washington Dougherty = ILB-Devin Bush/Michigan and S-Darnell Savage, Jr./Maryland Wood = OL-Jonah Williams/Alabama and TE-Irv Smith, Jr./Alabama (THIEF, LOL!) Owczarski = DT-Ed Oliver/Houston and OT-Cody Ford/Oklahoma I'd be good with any of those except Irv Smith at #30. #30 is high for any TE prospect, especially one as "blah" as Irv Smith. I rarely dislike prospects pre-draft, but Smith is on my "I'd be very disappointed" list.
  13. I'm not sure I agree with the first part. As for the actual picks, I guess we see how the board plays out, but Simmons shouldn't be a top 12 pick. I mean, if there are zero QB's taken and only the top DL and Edge rushers plus Hockenson and, then fine, but it's a near certainly that an elite talent will fall to us at 12. I'm still hoping it's Oliver, but whoever it is, I hope they can get pressure on the QB. That's not to say I don't love Simmons. I think taking him in the end of the 1st would be great. Lowered guaranteed money, but you get that 5th year that makes up for the fact he'll miss most of his rookie year with that ACL. He's a stud. I'd even be happy with Oliver at 12 and then coming back and doubling up with Simmons at 30. Oliver is so athletic, that while he can't be expected to play OLB'er, the Packers could use versatile fronts and if you have...for argument's sake, Clark, Simmons, Za'Darius Smith and Oliver rushing the passer, that could be a really formidable front. Shut down the run, collapse the pocket and force the QB to our OLB'ers. As for McGinn, I love reading his stuff where he takes experts and then creates rankings based on their comments. It's clear he's got good connections. But his own opinions have been laughable for a while now...going back even past the whole, "The Packer are a 10 win team without Aaron Rodgers," and then after they weren't that, after the article he wrote talking about all the talent that TT had surrounded Arod with looked foolish, he then pretty much ignored it and went back and listed all the bad moves that got them to this point without ever really acknowledging that he was the one who said the exact opposite. None of that is the point. The point is that I really hope we don't take an injured player at 12. Even though it's about a 95 pct chance that he'll come back, you never know how one injury will impact another and at 12, you can't be taking a Justin Harrell like risk. Simmons is more proven than Harrell, but in both cases, you're taking an extremely talented DL with a great first step, but who is injured early in the draft. Oh no doubt. A huge part of Packer Nation would want to tar and feather Gute if he takes Simmons at #12. I love Simmons, but I agree that #12 is too high for a guy you likely aren't going to get anything out of for a year. But at #30, I'd consider it. Regarding McGinn, I agree that he's had his share of bad takes in recent years. That does tend to happen, though, when you take a hard stance a lot of the time. McGinn has always kind of gone back and forth between beat guy and columnist. It when he goes columnist that he tends to get off the rails.
  14. I'm not either believe it or not. But I'd much rather have that than to continue to have them trot out a bunch of mediocre 1 inning guys like Petricka Wilson, Albers, Barnes, Williams, etc. What it comes down to is this... Soon enough the Brewers rotation options are going to be Chacin, Davies, Anderson, Gio, Nelson, Guerra, Burnes, Woodruff, and Nelson. Even without getting crazy with tandems or piggybacks, which I still think is a ways off unfortunately, you've got 9 guys for 5 spots. Guerra seems to be thriving in the long pen role. Let's add 3 more like him. I'd rather have all 9 of these guys on the Brewers 12-man staff than have 3 or 4 of them starting games in San Antonio. Especially if it means the aforementioned mediocre short guys are still around. On top of those multi-inning pitchers, you round out the staff with Hader, Claudio, and Jeffress. And then you've got plenty of coverage when your starters don't go 6 or when you purposely want to keep their outing short. As far as who are the "starters" and who goes to the pen, just give me the 5 who have the best history of eating innings effectively thus far. You forgot Peralta. I remember reading that his injury was supposed to be short-term. I don't think anyone would argue that the talent is there to have an above average to great pitching staff. It's a matter of finding the right roles, and helping these talent arms perform to expectations.
  15. I think the way the QB board is set out this year makes this a great opportunity for the Packers. With the Fins right behind them, you'd have to think Washington or the Giants would be really interested in jumping them to get 'their guy' at QB before the Fins have the chance. Trading with Washington to either grab their 3rd which is right behind the Packers' 3rd or a high 2020 pick sounds like a good plan to me. I think that could very well happen. Also ... watch for the Raiders to make a move if they don't draft a QB at #6. You might even be able to get #24 and #27 for #12. Value is probably out of whack, but it wouldn't be the first time that a team made a desperation move for a QB they liked.
  16. I also hate Irv Smith at any spot for the Packers. I can't help but see Richard Rodgers in him. Sure, he has the chance to be a solid TE, but he's far from elite. I'd rather see Jace Sternberger in the 2nd or 3rd. Much more upside there in my opinion.
  17. 3 years/$45 million guaranteed is NOT $9 million. When you talk contract, you need to represent the full value of the deal, not the first year payout minus backloading. And it doesn't mention anywhere that Kimbrel would take a prorated deal, so that is 100% speculation. Now ... instead of turning this into yet another thread that devolves into arguing about Craig Kimbrel (who I think has no chance of being a Brewer), lets keep this on Smoak. There is a whole thread devoted to Kimbrel that is collecting dust, just like him.
  18. This is the exact opposite of the idea that the game is won in the trenches. Not only are you in the minority for fan takes, I think that would be in the minority for GM takes as well. I assume by DE you mean a pass rushing Edge player, because guys like Oliver, Wilkins and Jeffrey Simmons would play DE in the Packers 3-4 alignment.
  19. Bob McGinn has a pretty good track record with his mocks, and he has DT Jeffery Simmons going to the Packers at #12, and S Juan Thornhill at #30. While I think both are probably reaches at those spots, I like both players. The Packers are supposedly enamored with Simmons.
  20. What information do we have that suggests Kimbrel is going to be had for 9-12 million? Or that he'd even be cheaper than Kuechel? That's at best speculation that runs contrary to everything I've heard about the two thus far. I’ve answered that question in thread or multiple threads already. You speculated. Please stop making factual-like statements based on guesses. Think about it ... if Kimbrel was willing to sign for $9 million, wouldn't he be on a team?
  21. You see Clelin Ferrell dropping out of the top 10?
  22. Yeah, maybe I'm just jaded by how utterly horrible he was at the beginning of last year. Tough to figure who the real Domingo actually is. If the numbers he's putting up now are real, the Brewers likely got taken to the cleaners on that deal. But ... it's early.
