  1. Cool, agree to disagree. I'd rather go the long term route. I'd rather wait more than 13 games to determine the route they are taking. I mean, geez. It's baseball. They were going to face adversity at some point. Do we really need to start talking about how the sky is falling already?
  2. I keep seeing this idea that the bullpen had all these studs and was lights out all year in 2018. That is simply not true. They were in a very similar situation as they are now in April and May last year. Burnes didn't show up till mid season, and Woodruff wasn't inserted in the pen until August. Knebel didn't come back and pitch well until later in the year. Hader and JJ were good all year, but the pen asa whole wasn't nails until August last year.
  3. Yep ... regardless of all the "bullpenning" noise, the point remains that you put your top arms in the starting rotation. These guys are great talents, and are going to provide much more positives than negatives this year. It's important to remember that, while the team made some short-term moves to go after a World Series this year, the core is going to be around for at least 3-4 more years. The growing pains with the young starters now will likely pay off down the road. I’d rather have gone for the WS than rip apart the strengths of the team that was one win away from the WS last year. Why can’t they develop in the bullpen? Also, if the plan was to develop these guys, we should have kept Pina and Kratz as our catchers. No reason to bring Grandal in for one year if this isn’t “the year”. The added offense provided by Grandal and Moose, I believe, is an answer to the inconsistency we are going to see from the young starters. I think they are looking to slug their way to wins this year. Starters develop as starters by starting. This team is going to contend for the next four seasons at least. You gotta let these guys start at some point. I do agree with you on Miley, though. Not resigning him was the most puzzling move of the offseason.
  4. If I were an opposing pitcher facing the Brewers, I'd throw low, outside sliders all day. Easy recipe for success.

  6. I think Woodruff is a starter, but going through similar growing pains to what Jimmy Nelson did at the same age. I agree and you are going to have to allow him to learn. The answer can't be to just turn around and throw him in the pen when he has a chance to be a starter. Unfortunately, the fact that we have three of them is probably going to mean we take a step back this year. I agree, and I think that's a big reason they made the upgrades to the lineup. They likely knew they would need to score more runs this year to stay in contention.
  7. I never said he was a plus defender ... just that he has the ability to man CF on a regular basis, which is 100% correct. He's got the speed, athleticism and arm to do it, unlike Stokes, who does not have the arm to play CF on a regular basis. And if you're looking for optimism on his hit tool, look no further than his college stats at Louisville. The ability is there. He's battled injuries throughout his minor league career, and last year was really the first where he could put his tools on display for an extended run. I think most everyone knew that there would be a learning curve with Ray, as he was more of a raw, projectable prospect coming out of college than a lot of high picks. But the guy has all the ability in the world. It's just a matter of being able to put enough of it together to make himself an MLB asset. I think most everyone was hoping that he'd put things together sooner, but he's only 24 years old, and is playing regularly at the highest level of the minors, so the trajectory is still there. Ok, just seein box scores lately depressing. April box scores are overreaction Red Bull.

  9. Give me a break. You are calling on the Brewers to dump one of their top prospects simply because you don't like him, despite the fact that he was their Player of the Year last year. Because he hasn't hit well less than a week into his first run through AAA. And YOU have the nerve to say someone isn't seeing the forest through the trees? What I said was should have traded him during offseason. Every day that goes buy it’s only gonna get harder and harder to get anything for him. Ok, be brutally honest people, do you really think he’s gonna hit? Why is the Keon Broxton comparison off? Other that Keon a much much better defender. Is he ever going to be a .300-type hitter? No, probably not. But I don't see any reason he wouldn't be able to eventually put up seasons with a .250-.260 average, 25-30 HRs and 25-30 SBs, with an OPS of .750+. When combined with the ability to play CF regularly, that holds strong value. All-Star CFs like Cain who provide great defense and a .300 average are rare, which is why his's making the money he is.

  11. Of course it would. Not that its going to happen, but a Keuchel signing makes sense in a lot of ways. Welcoming a healthy Nelson back to the rotation would, first off, be a pretty big emotional boost. It would be my hope that he can be effective, but that remains to be seen.
  12. Obviously the sample sizes are even smaller, but I imagine there is even a bigger divide between Burnes' starting and relieving numbers. I'm not against sending one of them to the pen, but just want them to make the right decision if it eventually comes to that.
  13. Came across some video of Jimmy Nelson breaking off some crazy off-speed stuff from yesterday. Man I hope things go well when he gets to AAA next week, and we can see him back up with the big club soon. This staff needs a pick-me-up.
  14. There are guys just as good if not better than Wilkerson who are waived nearly every day, with the added bonus that you can sign them to a minor league deal and not have to take up a 40-man spot. If the Brewers were to waive Wilkerson, I would say the chances are very strong he'd make it through unclaimed.
  15. I told people before the season Chase Anderson could/would outperform at least one of these guys in the rotation. One of these guys is going to be an absolute dud in the rotation...just not good odds you start that many young guys and one doesn't just blow. HRs or not Anderson could be solid with a lot less varying results. I think even the Brewers knew that going into the season. They have Anderson waiting around and then they have Nelson eventually ready....probably around the start of May. They probably started them all in the rotation to get an idea of who was going to sink or swim. Not sure if they will get more than a month to figure it out, but I can almost bet whoever duds the most and looks least promising gets kicked to the curb for Anderson/Nelson sooner rather than later. You just can't have this competitive of a team and let young guys toss around 5.00 ERAs or worse. All three are incredibly exciting young pitchers and if we only had one I think we could live with growing pains, but we can't trot out an almost full rotation of them. I know it likely isn't going to happen at this point, but signing Keuchel would go a long way toward stabilizing the rotation, while also allowing them to shift either Burnes or Woodruff to the pen, which would stabilize things back there. Certainly not a cure-all for this pitching staff, but it would go a long way toward fixing things. Perhaps they will just decide to let things ride until after the draft, then see where things are at regarding Keuchel and, to a lesser extent, Kimbrel.
  16. At this point I kind of would like them to go all-in on the young guys. Call up Houser. Maybe wait until Super 2 is done and call up Brown and Derby. Yeah, it's going to decimate the AAA rotation. I don't care. They can grab Supak and Webb/Jankins to fill in. If the rotation and pen is going to have holes, at least those holes will have upside.
  17. Golden Boy Hiura is matching Ray K for K so far, yet he still walks on water. How about we tap the brakes on the "this prospect sucks and will never amount to anything" talk until we get a few weeks of games in. Ray showed last year why he was a high draft pick, and while I agree that his hit tool needs work, he's got a ton of other tools that teams find attractive. Judging a prospect on his first week of games at the highest level in the minors is the ultimate "small sample size" overreaction.
  18. I'd probably counter that with: Tigers get: RHP Nate Griep RHP Adam Hill RHP Bubba Derby Brewers get: RHP Shane Greene RHP Brian Garcia And I'll counter with: Orioles get: 3B Lucas Erceg RHP Aaron Wilkerson RHP Bowden Francis SS C.J. Hinojosa Brewers get: RHP Alex Cobb 3B Ryan Mountcastle IF Jean Carmona I see you throw Wilkerson's name into prospective deals all the time? Why is this? Who is going to see a 30-year-old AAAA tweener who needs a 40-man spot as any sort of asset?
  19. Good to see Lucas Erceg have a big game yesterday. It's fun to have a legit 3B prospect who is one step from the majors. Been awhile.
