  1. He's proof that you need more than a upper 90s fastball to be successful against major league hitters. I've been really hoping the last couple years that he would emerge as a back-end pen options, but every outing like this makes that seem further away.
  2. Albers has been good so far this year, and actually has been pretty dang good throughout a lot of his long career. No, throwing your utility infielder out there is not a better option. This Cubs offense is still very potent, and can score a bunch of runs quick.
  3. I totally get the complaint that this team often puts up a crooked number early, then proceeds to go dormant for a long stretch of the game, while the opposing team chips away. It happened a ton in 2017 ... less often last year. But that's baseball.
  4. And I'm just saying that far more than one game has formed my opinion. This organization flat out makes a point to avoid 3 time through like the plague and has for some time. And the data says its really smart to do so. There's some substance to that theory. But I hope if that is the case, we see a lot of starts this year where the pitchers see a lineup a 3rd time through, because it means they're dealing
  5. Considering most teams typically make the worst pitcher on their team their long reliever, I think the Brewers are doing just fine there.
  6. I don't think that has anything to do with it. Woody was at 90 pitches, and was getting slapped around. I respect your opinion and we'll watch going forward. Just saying that using one game to support your theory is not viable. This is game 8. Only two of those the starter hasn't gone 5 innings. Tonight and Peralta's poor start against the Cardinals. Pitch counts and inefficiency were a factor both times. I mean, if a pitcher is getting hit or is wild, it stands to reason they will be pulled before finishing 5, which also coincides with getting to the 3rd time through the order. They aren't doing anything a typical ballclub wouldn't do In my opinion.
  7. If he takes a little longer, fine. You make due ... just as they have. Houser was terrific last night in his first AAA start, and has lined himself up to make an impact either in the rotation or the pen later. Another power arm.
  8. He's slated to pitch for the Missions today.
  9. I think he's hurt. I literally cannot come up with any other reason why he isn't on a team by now. He knows each day he misses, if healthy, is money out of his pocket. I don't see how he wouldn't have multiple lucrative offers to choose from. Every team can use another high-end reliever.
  10. I think there was more meat in the story than just that (although that stood out). I think the snippets about Valdez Scantling thinking Rodgers didn't like him, and the portion detailing Rodgers telling St. Brown to run a post when the play called for a flag (then being too afraid of being frozen out by Rodgers to tell the coaches it was him to told him to run it) was pretty interesting. It really paints a picture of the inmates running the asylum. It's going to be up to LaFleur to get that kind of crap in line. Yeah I agree that maybe some of the specifics were new but those weren't really surprises. I probably could have guessed all of that re: the rookie receivers. Yeah, all you had to do was watch the games to see that Rodgers was effectively freezing those guys out at times. Still its still a little chilling to see it confirmed, even if it was from "anonymous sources". Like I said earlier, I hope Rodgers reads this story about 50 times between now and the opening of team workouts next week. Is he going to change? Probably not much. But he'll have one heck of a big chip on his shoulder.

  12. This is really starting to get off-subject, but suffice it to say the JS gave him the opportunity to appear as though he was leaving on his terms. He wasn't forced, but he was very much nudged. Gannett has a very different philosophy on how they treat their editorial personnel, especially those who work remotely. McGinn wanted his situation to remain as it had been for years, which Gannett was unwilling to do. It's something they very easily could have done, especially for someone of McGinn's stature in the journalism world. That's why he's no longer there. Saying he was "canned" was probably not the correct terminology to use on my part. They made doing his job difficult to the point where he no longer wanted to do it for them. Believe me or not, it's doesn't matter to me. Just saying what I know. And in the whole scheme of things, this has turned off-topic.
  13. Love him or hate him, McGinn has touched on a lot of these issues in the past. And he got canned at the Journal Sentinel, and can't even get a press pass to cover the team via his website now. The Packers are not a media-friendly organization, and haven't been since the days of Ron Wolf. I don't think he was canned. He was going to retire and move to Michigan but his son convinced him to start the website as a business venture. "Retirement", "semi-forced retirement" ... whatever you want to call it. He didn't want to leave. That is 100% from the horse's mouth.

  15. Hart is 28 years old. Not a lot of swing-and-miss to his game, but he did put up a solid 2017 season with the Orioles. Hart's Baseball Reference page: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hartdo01.shtml Appears he's a LOOGY-type. Likely straight depth.
  16. I believe Counsell said they are going to leave him in extended spring training for a little while to build up his innings in a more controlled environment. Which I think is kind of a bummer, but I guess I get it.
  17. If you believe national prospect rankings and Braves fans, their trio of Soroka, Wright and Touissant ranks right up there.
  18. And a very good one at that. He actually cut his teeth as an intern at the Shawano Leader.
  19. Jennings and Finley have been on the anti-Rodgers bitter train for quite a while, and I'l always brushed it off. But seeing some of that somewhat collaborated by guys like Grant and Harris leads me to believe that there is something to it. I've heard through the grapevine that Rodgers devours pretty much everything written about him during the offseason. Hopefully he reads this, and finally realizes that he isn't 100% innocent in this debacle. I know one thing ... if a chip on the shoulder is something that energizes Rodgers, this is going to provide a huge one going into the 2019 season. It was pretty obvious that the guy was checked-out at times last season. A completely engaged Rodgers is a scary good possibility.
  20. I just read it as well. Only one word can describe it ... WOW!
  21. I've seen that and it scares the hell out of me. I really always wonder with guys who have great combines, but don't have great production. To me the combine tests 1 skill at a time, while the games test your ability to combine all those skills. I really don't think the Packers pass up the other options since I think there will be a lot of elite players falling, but just the mention of Metcalf to the Packers makes me anxious... Metcalf is certainly an athletic freak, but drafting him would scare the crap out of me. I just think he's a chronic hamstring strain waiting to happen. Professional athletes just can't function at 1.5 % body fat and take any sort of pounding. Body fat isn't necessarily a bad thing with these guys, as it provides some protection for muscle, tendons, ligaments and cartilage that isn't nearly as durable. I mean, I could be wrong on him, but I have a really hard time seeing Metcalf ever having a major impact in the NFL. Just too many red flags.
