  1. I've been seeing the same thing. I think Oliver would be a steal at #12 - and if he falls, great. I like the other guys you mention at #12 as well - Bush, White and Hockinson. I'm guessing White is gone by the time Green Bay picks, but you never know. Another guy I love is Montez Sweat - but he had a good combine and looks like he'll be gone. Lately, I've seen the Packers linked to WR A.J. Metcalf as well. The guy is an athletic freak, but he needs to work as a receiver. That concerns me. He should be better than he's shown. But the upside is huge - so it's tempting to go after someone like him - even if he needs some development. And another guy that I feel will be gone - but I'm starting to see drop in some mocks, is OT Jawaan Taylor. He would be a great bargain at #12. Offensive line isn't the sexiest thing to pick, but he would be an instant impact guy. My feeling is that there is no way all those guys are gone at #12, especially if, as predicted, there is a run on QBs, and 4-5 of them are drafted before #12. The Packers are going to get an excellent prospect at #12, or they are going to get caught in the midst of the run on QBs, and get some team to vastly overpay for #12. If, say, Oakland falls in love with a QB and he's available at #12, the Packers could theoretically get #24 and #27 (and perhaps even more). Maybe you aren't going to get the blue-chipper you can at #12, but three late #1s would go a LONG way toward building depth.
  2. What a totally stupid post you made(though I had the very same doubts and was wondering if Peralta may be the odd man out if/when Nelson comes back). Peralta to the minors? Pfft…. Seriously, I want you to post this about Woodruff and Burnes the next two days and lets just see how it goes. If Spahn and Sain the next two days, this should become a ritual. This is why baseball is both great an infuriating ...
  3. I'll take my crow with a side of fries, please Freddy was tremendous today. Actually all the starting pitchers have had nice moments so far. It's a fun position to be in. If they can continue to get solid outings from the starters, and even increase the efficiency to allow them to get deeper into games, that is going to make the bullpen that much more effective. Peralta was extremely efficient today, getting 8 innings out of his 100 pitches, and looking very effective in his 3rd time through the Reds' order.
  4. True...I would probably have the sky start falling if the starters start stinking up the joint. I think I could be positive through bullpen struggles though. That is a easier fix midseason. If the starters shart the bed we are in bigger trouble. At least they have other viable starting options available should the current guys falter. It sure is great having guys like Anderson and Nelson in reserve, and younger guys like Brown and Houser around.
  5. Not going to lie for the games we have played I have been pretty calm through them all. Typically I would have had 3 heart attack scares and at least a stroke. The fatalism of past years hasn't kicked in yet! Yeah, just wait until the first 2-game skid. The sky is never held up by much around here.
  6. Plus they paid Drew Smyly $3 million to not throw one pitch for them last year, then traded him this spring, after he was fully recovered, in a cost-cutting move. I'm still chuckling about that one.
  7. He averaged 93 last game. I have no idea where you think his lack of velocity is coming from. It came from talk of him hitting 97 in spring training, then sitting in the low 90s in his first start. Looking at the pitch chart, it does say he maxed out at 96 against the Cardinals though. I confess that I only listened to the first part of the game last week, and Uecker remarked that Peralta's velocity wasn't where he'd seen it in Spring Training.
  8. Also nice to see Freddy ramp it up to 96 today after sitting at 92 last week. He looked like a completely different pitcher, as I suppose young pitchers often do.
  9. As I pointed out when I said that, it isn't a knock on Peralta as much as it is strong belief in Woodruff and Burnes being really good. Also, I also pointed out it was my opinion, and I wouldn't call someone who disagreed with my opinion "silly".
  10. "On to close for the Brewers, Alex Wilson!" Wow, never thought that would happen a few months ago.
  11. I'll be first in line for a grilled slice, please Also, agree with your Arcia take. Completely.
  12. Freddy with the absolute GEM today! Wow! I don't think we saw a starter throw like this all of last year, and here we are, in game 7 ...
  13. You would have think that getting demoted to AAA would have gotten the message through to him. It's mind-boggling to me that a 24 year old who had a .576 OPS last year and is rosterable on an MLB team only because of his defense would risk his entire way of life by not hustling. Someday he might get sent down to AAA and never make it back up. What he has could be taken away at any time and he doesn't seem to get it. Yeah... it may be time to sell Arcia high. This would be the complete opposite of selling a player high.
  14. Not about those three trades in particular, just about the overall philosophy of how they had run the team in a way that was not sustainable. I'm looking all over for the comments, but he's commented on the team so often over the years that it's hard to find the one you're looking for. I know it was when they were bottoming out and he talked about how he had to examine his role in leading the team to that point. It was also around the time when "tanking" was slowly becoming an accepted necessary evil in the media. I think it was probably around the time of the Stearns hire as well, with the change in philosophy that was anticipated to coincide with Stearns' arrival. I found some similar comments here, but this is not nearly as extensive as the comments I'm remembering, which were more specific about depleting the talent pipeline too much. “Where we failed, and this starts with me and the zeal to compete each and every year, is we got into the middle and stayed in the middle. If you’re a .500 team, you’re competitive, and that’s not what we’re trying to do, simply be a consistent .500 team.” https://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/27/sports/baseball/brewers-new-gm-looks-to-change-story-line.html That's totally different, though. What he's saying here is he's messed up trying to make a team that isn't competitive into a competitor by making a few moves (trading for Geraldo Parra comes to mind). I think it's completely different when you know your team is already competitive, and you fork over a big package in an attempt to put them over the top. I don't think I've ever seen him say he regrets those deals, and why would he? The goal is to get to the playoffs, and those deals effectively did that.
  15. Also, this fanbase is going to LOVE Ben Gamel by the end of this year. He's Russell Branyan, Brady Clark, Keith Ginter and and Nate Orf all rolled up into a shaggy one.

You just described 90% of the mid-20s workforce in this country, unfortunately.
  17. I know age isn't a great excuse, but I think we forget that he's only 24. Some immaturity is probably expected.
  18. But how does it compare to what the Brewers drew against the Orioles on April 2, 1979?
  19. Freddy at 48 pitches through 4 innings. Completely different pitcher from what we saw last week. Efficient Freddy is the best Freddy. Given the state of the pen and who is down today, I hope they let him roll.
  20. Yep, when Demovsky put it out last night that he has a sit-down, I was expecting McCarthy to be full of bitterness. Demovsky took the one thing MM said, though (It couldn't have been handled any worse) that sounded bitter, and ran with it. I think MM actually came off pretty well in the interview, and it isn't going to hurt his chances of getting a job next season. This certainly makes Murphy look like a tool, though. I tell ya, the more he does, the less I like him. I don't like Murphy and while you might be right, there is nothing in that article that really stands out. What alpha male is ever going to take a firing well? None. I don't want to rehash the whole McCarthy era, but there was plenty of reason to make a move SOONER, but they didn't. If they let him finish the season and he wins-out, it makes it almost impossible to fire him then. So I think the timing had everything to do with Murphy waited too long to pull the plug and he took the first opportunity to do it and that happened to be the Cardinal loss. Definitely a catch-22. In hindsight, it should have been done last offseason, but then the wolves would have been at the door because the Rodgers injury took the blame for the poor 2017 season. Instead they took the opposite path, and gave MM MORE power instead of doing the intelligent thing and handing the football operation to Gute. That triumvirate power structure has already come back to bite them.
