I think you nailed it. We already have a younger, cheaper version of Ozuna in Santana, and they spent the whole offseason trying to dump him. Other than, you know, Ozuna's Gold Glove defense. Oh yes, because Gold Gloves have always been based on defensive value I mean, yeah, I get that Ozuna is a better defender. There really aren't many who are worse than Santana. But his higher cost does somewhat mitigate his defensive value in a straight up comparison to Santana, though. -

Braun would be a downgrade in RF compared to Phillips for sure, but probably on par if not an upgrade on Santana. Santana had a higher BA, OBP, and SLG than Braun last year. As Santana moves into his prime, and Braun continues to age, I see no reason that wouldn't continue. Santana isn't a good defender, but at this point, neither is Braun. Santana was a 3.0 WAR player. i'd put good money on him being a 3.0 to 3.5 WAR player again this year. I don't know that Braun is going to be that kind of a player going forward anymore. I thought the argument was just making the comparison defensively. I totally get where you are coming from when you bring offense into the mix, but JosephC's argument was that Braun brings negative defensive numbers pretty much anywhere he's moved, but especially to RF. I argued that he'd likely be better defensively out there than Santana. Although I do think it is possible that Santana is young enough to still show defensive improvement as well.

Miller Park is a better offensive park than what he's used to. I would imagine that evens out some.

The team just traded arguably their two top OF prospects. I think the onus is on Grisham and Ray to start fulfilling their potential. I imagine both will be at AA this year. Time to put up or shut up.

Well, I'll give credit where it is due. HighHeat19 nailed this one. I was getting frustrated by the lack of info coming out on it, but it happened nearly exactly as he said it would, right down to the return stinging. I imagine that Yamamoto was the sweetener on the deal. I really like the deal. Yes, we gave up up some great prospects, but that's exactly what they are - prospects. Not sure things. Also, we greatly improve the major league squad without giving up any major league talent. In fact, other than Brinson, the prospects given up were all several years from being major league contributors. And Brinson wasn't even a sure thing for this year. I would have loved to see what he could do if given the chance, but I'm more than happy with Yelich and Cain making up 2/3 of the outfield. I imagine Phillips will take over for Braun eventually as well, leaving a very skilled, athletic outfield.
