  1. Cardinals get a Contreras ... Brewers get a Contreras.
  2. This is crazy. Contreras is a legit young stud catcher. I have a feeling the return for him is gonna sting.
  3. The Rays obviously liked Rasmussen, as he is a former 1st round pick of theirs. The Brewers took the chance on him when they drafted him hoping he'd get over his arm issues, and that chance obviously paid off, as they were able to turn a 7th round flyer into an All-Star level SS. Rasmussen would be a great arm to still have around, but I'd take an every day All-Star level SS capable of hitting 30 HRs a season over nearly any pitcher.
  4. What makes Ruiz so much more expendable than Frelick and Mitchell (Wiemer is an outlier as more of a power threat)? Frelick, Mitchell and Ruiz all bring somewhat similar skillsets to the table, and all three can fly, but Ruiz has that calling-card of truly game-altering speed.
  5. Ehh ... AAAA guy. They grab a handful of guys like this every year.
  6. At 2B, certainly. And the numbers bear it out at 3B. Moreso than your eye test at least.
  7. Standings never, ever tell the whole story of a season.
  8. The idea that a soon-to-be 31-year-old catcher with a lot of wear on him will struggle to live up to a 5-year, $90 million deal is hardly "kidding yourself". In fact, I would imagine the odds of that happening are pretty good. But if Contreras becomes a key cog in a World Series winning team in the next couple years, it is probably money well spent.
  9. Trying to find a silver lining in an opponent's move isn't "humorous". It is simply an alternative viewpoint that fans have. Perhaps some are choosing not to go totally "gloom and doom" on the 2023 season when we haven't even reached 2023 yet.
  10. Appears that Contreras is getting a 5-year deal (!!!). He'll be 31 in May. And has A LOT of wear on him. I get that the Brewers need to make big moves to get over the top, but had they done 5 years on Contreras, that would be financial malpractice.
  11. I suppose if you look at it that way, every free agent is a realistic Brewers target. But then, I guess it depends on your definition of "realistic". I think that the match certainly makes sense on paper, but given the finances of this team and its history, they were never realistically going to make a play for Contreras.
  12. Lafleur apparently thought he was a couple years ago when he tried to hire him. I think the job is Leonhard's if he wants it. Right now Leonhard could probably get a decent head coaching job at a lower-end BCS school, but if he were to go in and turn that Packers defense around, he would have the choice of pretty much whatever job he wanted, college or NFL.
  13. Passan is the quintessential Mets/yankees fanboy.
  14. Conteras was never a realistic Brewers target.
  15. Simply replacing one douchey catcher with another. Gonna be funny watching that terribly shallow fanbase go from hating Contreras to suddenly having a love affair with him.
  16. Kicking the can down the road is how NFL teams doom themselves. And we are suggesting doing that now, but for a decade or more, and not just a couple years? Nope. There's a reason the Bonilla contract has been a laughingstock for decades. It was stupid then, and there unfortunately is a yearly reminder of that stupidity.
  17. Pay a ton more for basically the same player? Bell would have made some sense as a bat in the lineup in addition to Tellez, but not in place of.
  18. Solid fit for him in Oakland. Gonna miss him as a Brewer, though. He's been a very useful guy to have around the last couple seasons.
  19. Jace Peterson to the A's: Solid fit for him. He was a nice player to have around the last couple years, and had several highlights as a Brewer. Definitely exceeded my expectations. Good for him.
  20. Reynolds wouldn't be just another outfielder. He is what the absolute ceiling of someone like Mitchell or Frelick would be. That would be a "go for it" type move if I ever saw one.
  21. I have a sneaking suspicion that Willy Adames is going to be Dodger before the week is out. And that makes me sad.
  22. Looks like Turner to the Phillies, according to Passan.
