  1. I do remember your high praise of Freddy Peralta as a prospect, props are in order. Interestingly though, here's what you posted on page 1 of this topic... I'll go ahead and take over that "captain's" chair, lol. THere's no captain's chair. If Counsell and Stearns determine he deserves to be on the roster, he will be. If they don't, he won't. He's likely very borderline. Stop taking skepticism of Peralta as a personal insult. It most definitely is not that. Personally, I just want the best 12 or 13 pitchers on the roster. If they this he's one, great. If not, great.
  2. Actually reading into this a little further, Counsell said it would be guys that haven't been starters as of late. That seems to indicate that we'll see Junior Guerra for probably two-three innings tomorrow.
  3. Betting someone like Peralta or Williams starts (someone who is dominant against righties) to get through Arenado and Story the first time, then Miley gets the ball until he gets in trouble.
  4. It's been leading up to this point all year. With all the dominant relievers that can go multiple innings, it makes sense. Give the ball to your best pitchers, and let them do their jobs. Will be fun to watch it play out.
  5. [sarcasm]I've been telling you that the innings he's logged will pay dividends in the future as you wanted him shipped off to AAA. Can I get a pat on the back?[/sarcasm] Yes, of course. But ... I also remember you anointing Brad Miller as the solution to the team's SS troubles. So you only get one pat
  6. But also one that has a positive place in the recent history of this team. I know there are fans out there that feel showing emotion and flamboyance has no place in baseball, but I always thought Morgan was a fun guy to have on those teams. The guy came through in some clutch situations as well.
  7. It's all about matchups. Peralta matches up much better with the Rockies than he would with the Cubs. Yeah, been saying that for weeks. If I'm not mistaken, the Rockies have been a possible matchup for quite some time. Yet, Peralta was noticeably absent from everyone's 25 man. Now, all of the sudden without any announcement from the team or push from the media, something has changed. Just an observation. I've been pushing those matchup numbers, his dominance vs RHB, and what I'm hearing from those in the know for weeks now. It seems like some of it stuck. It's simply interesting that a guy everyone was ignoring is magically being added in everyone's predictions without an explanation for the change in heart. Are you looking for a pat on the back and a "good job"? I think most everyone has seen Peralta for what he is ... a very young, inconsistent guy with electric stuff and a potentially solid future. If there is a chance that his perepherals point to the idea that he can be an asset on the NLDS roster, he'll be on it. I'm not going to lose sleep if he doesn't make the roster, though. If he does, I imagine he's one of the final guys, unless they plan on starting him in one of the first four games.
  8. It's all about matchups. Peralta matches up much better with the Rockies than he would with the Cubs.
  9. So sick of seeing the "OMG, we shouldn't have let Jordy go!!!" narrative. Seeing it a lot again this week with Cobb and Allison hurt. Jordy would be doing next to nothing to help this team right now. Graham and Allison can perform the "slow possession receiver" role just fine. I want to see what Valdes-Scantling and Moore can do with an increase in reps. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kumerow show up at midseason as well.
  10. I remember some scuttlebutt about the Brewers trading either Santana or Broxton for Corbin. The DBacks went is a different direction, though, trading prospects for Souza. Would have loved to have Corbin in the rotation this year.
  11. For me, it wasn't a close call to put Santana on the roster - I like having that third center fielder (OK, he's not the best defensively, but he's still an option). Davies has been hurt and of dubious effectiveness this year. C'mon clancy ... the only way that Santana would ever see a second of time in CF is if Cain, Yelich, Granderson and Perez all got hurt, and if Broxton didn't make the roster. There is absolutely no way he would be considered an option out there. None.
  12. Thanks Josh! That answers every question. Smart move by Jeremy to eliminate temptation. That guy has meant so much to this team this year.
  13. Apparently he does: Hiring Doug Melvin is not a "we're rebuilding" move. It's a "we're going to try to fill our holes and go for it in the next two years" move. There's no way any of those pitchers are going to be moved this offseason, unless it's for a major haul to fill several offensive holes on the major league squad.
  14. They didn't trade for Granderson to not have him in the playoffs. He's a lock to make the roster in my opinion. It's going to come down to whether they want Domingo's bat for pinch hitting opportunities, or Broxton's baserunning and defense for late game moves.
  15. Well Chacin is this team's ace, but they aren't going to throw him on 3 days rest .... are they?
  16. Nope it's .671 since he was called up, excluding his 4-4 in game 163. And excluding that same game, his Sept. slash line was .288/.324/.409/.733 -- right in line with a reasonable expectation for him at this stage of his career. His PAs in #163 were significantly better than anything we've seen from him all season, so it wasn't just a fluky 4 hits. In fact he probably had as good a night at the plate as any Brewer in that game, in terms of approach. Here's hoping he & Coles have figured something out at the plate & he can stay hot. LOL jerichoholicninja's post from from Aug. 9. Nice to see Arcia has improved since then, though.
  17. I will tentatively pencil him in ... but I think getting the 2017 version of Nelson back is probably a stretch. But if there is one guy who has the work ethic to come back from an injury like that, it's Nelson. That guy is an extremely hard worker. It sure is nice to have starting pitching depth for once in this organization, though. That way we don't have to put all our eggs in the Jimmy Nelson basket.
  18. I think Freddy, Chase or Davies gets the start tomorrow. Freddy would be fun, but probably the most risky. But I think they go with a righty in an effort to neutralize Arenado and Story. Maybe even go Freddy tomorrow and Chase on Friday, followed by Chacin Sunday in Colorado.
  19. Throwing money at perceived problems is how they got that Heyward contract. I have no doubt that Harper will be a Cub in 2019, though. I'd say Machado is 50/50 to be one as well.
  20. That'll be the narrative in the Chicago papers tomorrow. It'll be MLB's fault.
  21. Going against the aces from two teams in similar "winner take all" games is a very tough draw. Again, that's why the Brewers winning yesterday was huge. But hey, if you need the "Cubs choked" narrative to fill time on your podcast, roll with it. But in my opinion, that team didn't collapse and didn't choke. The offense didn't perform in a couple very tough situations, but both were games that the Cubs very much could have won.
  22. I wouldn't say they choked. A Brewer team playing out of their mind forced them into two weird "winner take all" games. Those always can go pretty much either way. This is why yesterday's win was so important. I didn't want the Brewers to be in this situation against a pitcher like Freeland.
  23. I wonder if the cleaning crew that cleaned up the visitors clubhouse this morning is on retainer?
  24. The Cubs won 95 games. That isn't even close to a collapse. It can be argued that they collapsed yesterday and today, but they played well through the end of the season. The Brewers caught them because they played out of their mind.
  25. There were posters here in the offseason and the beginning of the season that said the Cubs were a shoo-in to the point where the Brewers should sell off assets. The Cubs have a strong core, and will be good for the next several years, but this proves that if you have talent, you should go for it, because you never know when the "favored" team is going to slip up and let you in the door. The Cubs had a good year, but they slipped up just enough to let the Brewers slip in, and are no longer even standing in the doorway.
