  1. I would be VERY surprised if Keston Hiura is back next year. To me, he has been the epitome of everything that was wrong with this offense this season. A total all-or-nothing approach with tons of Ks, while running into one here and there (including some exciting clutch moments). Add in that he provides absolutely zero defensive value, and he strikes me as a guy who just needs a fresh start ... preferably with an AL team. If he figures it out and becomes the . 280/30 HR guy he should be, fine. That isn't going to happen with the Brewers, though. His approach just simply sucks.
  2. He looks like a guy who is already a tweener, and is coming off a major injury. He may ultimately be a guard, but if they feel he has the athleticism to be an elite tackle, I'd prefer he stay there. Myers isn't going anywhere. They seem to really love him, and Hanson is a major step down.
  3. The only way this deadline ends up getting anything but an F grade is If Ruiz and Gasser end up being solid MLB contributors for this team. I get why they felt the need to deal Hader, but the MLB talent they got in return was underwhelming at best. Lamet would have been an interesting cog, but they flubbed that one up too. Rogers has had his moments where he's looked ok, but also far too many moments where he's looked downright bad. Bush has been mediocre, but at least he has a terrific arm and is back relatively cheaply next year. Rosenthal was blindfolded dart throw that ended up looking stupid. But to remove the best pen arm in MLB and replace him with a poo-poo platter of mediocrity, and expect to continue to contend for a playoff birth, was an obvious misstep.
  4. Look at some of the contracts that players much, much worse than Renfroe get on the open market. He won't be non-tendered. If he isn't in RF opening day next year, it means they dealt him. The return wouldn't be spectacular, but it should be decent.
  5. You play the teams on your schedule where they fall. And last week, The Packers were better. Barely .... but better. And Tampa didn't look all that great last night with that receiving corps all active. Evans doesn't have the explosiveness he used to, Godwin isn't 100% coming off his ACL last year, and Julio looks like he's done.
  6. The OP was not asking for anyone's opinion on whether this team was deserving on a playoff spot, or about whether they'd be smacked around by the Cardinals. He was asking about a potential playoff rotation, which is still mathematically in play. So yes, it was completely uncalled for, and frankly, off topic. This team hasn't been a lot of fun to watch this year, But until the season is officially over, there are plenty of fans out there that will continue to hope for the best.
  7. This post is really uncalled for. God forbid someone still have some hope.
  8. Maybe. I'm just ready to move on from the Keston Experience.
  9. Keston Hiura's September OPS is .508. After a very good August, he's been absolutely ice cold. Yes, he had a big hit last night, but that move was far from stupid.
  10. I think that is probably the career arch that Keston is staring at as well, unless he can find a way to cut down on the swing-and-miss tendencies in favor of a line-drive, higher contact swing. Villar keeps getting opportunities because that raw talent is tantalizing. He simply plateaued as a young-ish player, I suspect due to an inability to make adjustments and adapt to coaching.
  11. Yep. I would think that if he goes today, there's probably a pretty decent chance that he plays on Sunday, provided he feels good tomorrow after going two days straight. But in this particular case, who knows?
  12. Really good point. It's "put up or shut up" time now. It doesn't do anyone on the team any good to have this "will he or won't he" dynamic every week. He either plays soon, or you end the mystery and just put him on IR and move on with Yosh. He has been serviceable at the very least in that spot, and perhaps would even take another step without looking over his shoulder at the constant threat of an All-Pro talent coming to take his job back.
  13. Houser is at the absolute very least a solid to very solid, relatively inexpensive pen arm. He's also had long stretches where he looks like a very capable #3-4 type starter. A team like the Brewers doesn't give that up for nothing.
  14. This is exactly what my thoughts are. If he doesn't go today, it's obvious that he had another setback. Then who knows what's going on moving forward. It sure would be nice if the team wasn't so evasive when it comes to injuries. I know ... competitive advantage blah, blah, blah. The fact that they never give a definitive answer on the team's franchise left tackle sucks. For a team that is owned by fans and goes out of its way to be a part of the community, there are many parts of the franchise that are shrouded in mystery. I've been a pretty big fan of Lafleur from the get-go, but this is one part of the way he does his job that I hate. As a former newspaper beat reporter, I can't imagine how frustrating it is covering this team when they basically operate under a cover of darkness and give you next to nothing.
  15. I honestly cannot believe that someone is taking what is quite possibly the most ridiculed and ridiculous contract in professional sports history, and wants to use it as a template for future deals. We're talking about a deal that continues to be ripped on every year on the date that the Mets have to cut a big check to a guy who has been retired for 22 years. I know you are an "outside the box" kind of thinker, but IMO, this is a clear miss.
  16. I have been quite effusive in my praise of the positive changes Brock has made to this site, and he has been more than open to constructive criticism as well. If someone feels that an article(s) (that was likely paid for) adds little to the site itself, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be able to give their opinion on it. Once something appears as an "article", and it is paid for, it is open to critique. Journalism 101.
  17. It will be interesting to follow Bahk's practice schedule this week. It appears they want him to practice twice a week, with a rest day somewhere in there. Last week he went Wednesday and Thursday, then sat out Friday. I wonder if that's going to be the norm? I fully expect him to appear as Questionable on the injury report. If they upgrade him to Probable, I'd say there's a 99% chance he plays this week. But Lafleur loves playing games with injury designations, so I don't expect that.
  18. I know it is completely hypothetical, but IMO, the lack of more ABs from Keston Hiura is not even close to the biggest reason why this team is not in the driver seat for the playoff spot. I don't even know if it's really a reason at all. He's sucked. He's been a major disappointment since his rookie year. He's certainly not the only one who underperformed offensively this season, and he hasn't sucked as bad as some others, but it is obvious (to me at least) that they are fed up with the constant Ks. He just hasn't progressed. At all. And I think the Brewers are just fed up with him. No matter how pretty you paint a turd, it's still a turd.
  19. Right here is the absolute perfect example on an article that is pointless and simply just takes up space on the forum: Brock, many of the changes you've made are awesome. But a lot of the articles are pretty redundant.
  20. I have no doubt that Adames would very likely be this team's best 3B. Unfortunately he's also the team's best SS. At the end of the day, I don't care where they line up on defense. I just want the best bats in the lineup. So if that means that Adames is a 3B next year, Turang is the SS and Urias is the 2B, that's fine by me.
  21. It's pretty obvious at this point that this forum has a much higher opinion of Keston Hiura than the Brewers, and likely the rest of MLB.
  22. I think it is obvious at this point to nearly everyone that Jaire should have shadowed Jefferson. But not only was defensive gameplan in Week 1 lacking, the players also didn't execute. It was a perfect storm of bad. That said, Primetime Kirk is a real thing. He looks like the worst QB in football in nationally televised night games.
  23. Bingo. I think they've been targeting Week 3 since training camp. Sitting Week 1 on that terrible turf in Minnesota made a lot of sense. I think they looked at Week 2 against a poor team with a new coach and saw one more week where the urgency didn't outweigh the caution. But now, up against an elite defense and pass rush, in a road game against another legit Super Bowl contender? It's go time. If he sits once again Week 3, it's concerning (and I hate using the word "concerning". The NFL is entertainment. This isn't family members getting sick or something)
  24. If we're going to be honest, the articles are more-or-less the fidget spinner section of this place. They kill time if you're bored, but from what I've seen, other than one here and there, they don't add much value to the site itself. Especially those that basically recap recently completed series or sum up personnel moves.
  25. Maybe it's the eternal optimist in me, but I think it's likely he plays this weekend against Tampa. Once he works into full game shape, I expect him to be fine. Perhaps the knee will be an issue through the rest of his career, but the guy has an All-Pro pedigree, and getting him back, even at a somewhat reduced capacity, would still hold a lot of value.
