  1. You're right. Gotta protect. Way too many called third strikes lately.
  2. I hate that this happened, but love the way Yelich reacted. He is absolutely correct, too. It is absolutely ridiculous. That he's willing to call out the people who questioned his commitment makes me like him even more.
  3. I hope Granderson's patience rubs off on a few of his teammates.
  4. You keep on harping on this, and it is much ado about nothing. You do realize that the right fielders who played last night went 2-4 with a 2-run bomb, right? And Yelich delivered in a key pinch hit appearance. Hindsight is 20/20. I think those who are still complaining about Yelich not starting are saying that by him not starting, it shows that CC has no sense of immediacy regarding winning baseball games in a playoff chase. Yes, it worked out that Granderson did well, and Yelich was able to make an impact later in the game, but had Granderson went 0 for 4 with 3 strike-outs, it would have been magnified even more. The thought of benching Yelich for a day of rest before an actual full team day of rest just doesn't sit well with everyone. No doubt it was an odd decision. It is just getting blown up way more than it should be in my opinion. That's all.

  6. It's all about value (both perceived and future) when you get to the end of the roster. Its obvious that they feel those rookie receivers have more value than some of the other positions, so that's where they kept the depth. Last year it was at RB with the three rookies and Montgomery. They were trying to find a team to offload Trevor Davis on, and it wouldn't surprise me if he is jettisoned soon when a depth need arises at a different position. The Packers typically carry 5 receivers active week-to-week. That may change this year depending on if they view Tonyan as a TE/FB hybrid, which would mean 4 TEs are active.
  7. Well put! Yes, last night's game was important, but the team still holds its destiny in its hands, which makes Friday's game nearly as important as last night's. If they continue on this stretch of taking every series, they'll make the playoffs, and likely have a shot at the division going into the final series.
  8. Burnes only tossed 23 pitches. I would think he would be available if needed Friday. With the depth in the pen, though, he may sit until the weekend. I'm surprised they decided not to bring Houser back up. He showed good power stuff in his limited opportunities at the MLB level this year. What would it hurt to have him at the back of the pen for the stretch run?
  9. I would have rather had Pina up there. Much better contact hitter. But I see why they went with Thames. Can't deny the guy's late-inning heroics in his nearly two seasons as a Brewer.
  10. Sometimes guys just need a breather. Haudricourt was getting snippy on Twitter this evening with posters who were saying the same thing.
  11. His contract, while not small, isn't so big that they couldn't eat it if they really wanted to. It will be interesting to see what their plans are for him going into 2019. His best fit is in the AL as a platoon DH, but good luck finding a team looking for that.
  12. You are going to get on the guy that hit a 2 run bomb a couple innings ago? Not MrTPlush answering: I wouldn’t seriously get on Granderson, but the first AB with two runners on by Thames seems to fit the definition of clutchless. Thames went up there with his only thought of ending it with one swing. No patience at all. I thought Cain's AB was fine, and he kept it alive by beating out Bryant's throw.
  13. This series proved that the Cubs are NOT head and shoulders above the Brewers. These are two very evenly matched teams. If the Brewers can just take care of business the next couple weeks, they'll see each other again in the playoffs.
  14. You are going to get on the guy that hit a 2 run bomb a couple innings ago?
  15. Cubs are lucky to escape with one. Brewers certainly didn't roll over after getting down early. Loss sucks, but this team is in good shape.
  16. No, they were done. He was thankful that the Packers and Badgers were starting.
  17. No patience from Thames there. OK top of the order, get it done!
  18. 40-man roster depth is a beautiful thing in September.
  19. Well, here's Yelich ... Gotta love the playoff atmosphere!
  20. So if the move backfires, it's all Counsell's fault, but if it works, it's in spite of him? I give Barnes credit for pitching well tonight. Seems like it's been a long time since he put in a good outing.
