  1. Ugh, another early hook on a starter pitching very well with a low pitch count. I get that the pen is well rested after the break, but Anderson and Suter don't exactly have a plethora of long starts on their records.
  2. Hopefully to coincide with Arcia finding his stroke in Colorado Springs, and coming back up to no longer embarrass himself at the plate.
  3. Yeah, if he isn't going to hit, the least he can do is play solid defense. Can't give away runs the way this team is hitting.
  4. Counsell obviously didn't use his pre-game media availability right. Could've cost the game. #FireCounsell
  5. You have been the only one, twice now, bringing up religion. Please stop. Back on topic, I'm still confused. He said "I never believed those things." Then please explain why you posted them. This shouldn't be like pulling teeth. Just explain it so we can move on. Do you remember everything you said, and the reason you said it, 8 years ago? I pretty much believe him when he says he didn't remember posting that stuff, and if he doesn't remember doing it, I can't imagine he remembers why he did it. I'm obviously a few more years removed from my teenage years, but it's probably a good thing I can't remember a lot of the stupid stuff I said and did.
  6. agreed. 26 pitches on Tueday should not make him unavailable on Friday. Get him back out there and see what happens. Apparently McCalvy was confused. Hader may (or may not) be available tonight.
  7. My pleasure! For the record, I agree. They gotta do something about getting something more out of the bottom of the lineup. Pina squaring up on the ball better would help. Not having to play Broxton would help.
  8. Be careful... You are bordering on “Debbie Downer” status here! Lol. Btw, I completely agree with you. #sadtrombone
  9. LOL, 7 games? Find me one hitter who hasn't had a seven game stretch like that. agreed but the last 7 games he was brutal. Certainly hasnt provided much of anything during this streak. No one has
  10. Me neither. Which means he's throwing 7 shutout innings tonight. Because baseball.
  11. Yeah, they are giving up. No use even showing up anymore. Sheesh! I get that it hasn't been a great week for Brewer baseball, but the Debbie Downers are starting to get a little overpowering around here. Awe, I am sorry for having an opinion that doesn’t match yours... I almost feel bad that you didn’t like it. The topic asked for what to expect out of the break. I gave an honest thought and hoped it wasn’t the case. Carry on... And I gave an honest thought on your opinion. Which, last time I checked, is also allowed. As you said, carry on with your parade ... sad trombones and all
  12. Stokes hasn't been bad in Biloxi, not as spectacular as Ray, but still very solid, good OBP. Power surge from last year not a fluke. I was expecting a bigger jump, especially since he's repeating AA. The enormous K numbers are a huge concern. Perhaps he hasn't taken a step back, but he certainly hasn't taken one forward either.
  13. He also said there are certain prospects he isn't giving up. I don't know what major acquisition you are going to make without your top prospects being involved. He also made similar comments after Cain/Yelich and everyone and their mother thought he would add pitching. That didn't happen either. You may see smaller scale additons but Machado was this years Quintana. I don't think it was clear whether he meant there's certain guys he won't trade at all, or certain guys he won't trade for Machado. I believe it's the latter. Stearns is all about value and is too smart to just take guys off the table completely. I don't know. The way I read that quote says to me there are guys off the table in any deal. Of course, that can change depending on who's available I suppose.
  14. Bingo ... and now that we have an idea of what the Brewers' offer actually was, it will be interesting to see how each of these packages progresses. Of course, sending a pitcher like Ortiz to a system like Baltimore's would be playing with fire. They don't exactly have a great reputation for developing pitchers, and Ortiz is far from a finished product in my opinion.
  15. I guess that comes down to what you consider an "impact" player to be then. I (perhaps mistakenly) was under the impression you didn't think a rental like Dozier was an impact addition. Realmuto isn't coming here without either Burnes or Hiura in the deal and DS isn't giving up either. I think you are probably correct regarding the players who Stearns has deemed off limits. I think we differ, though, when it comes to the strength of the rest of the top of the system and the individual value of those players.
  16. Man, the Orioles are stupid. They held out for Burnes, and Stearns held his ground, and the Orioles refused to pivot. Then they basically traded Machado to the Dodgers for the 2017 version of Brett Phillips and a bunch of filler. I'm guessing they could have had a very good starting pitching prospect from the Brewers too (Woodruff or Ortiz is my guess). I kinda hope all those guys they got from the Dodgers bust now. I can't see Diaz being better than Phillips and this filler stuff isn't accurate - there's multiple MLB arms in that package Kremer profiles as a #4-5 starter or swing guy, and Pop as a reliever, best case. Bannon and Valeria are basically nothing prospects who will be lucky to make it as utility guys. They are perhaps a step above the Nate Orf-type organizational filler types who get cups of coffee, but it isn't by much. Perhaps you see more there, as it is hard to project guys who are years away from an MLB impact.
  17. IF that's true, no wonder DS didn't get him...Nothing like lowballing them David. The Brewers' system is much more than three prospects deep. And 2 1/2 months of play does not define a prospect's value. Both Phillips and Ortiz were Top 100 guys as recently as last season.
  18. This system is way more than three players deep. The Dodgers put a package together without giving up any of their top three, and I don't have much doubt that the Brewers can as well. Just because the Orioles front office is too short sighted to see value in anyone other than Burnes or Peralta, doesn't mean there aren't other teams that don't.
  19. Good on Stearns for not budging. That would have been about the maximum I would have wanted to give up. I'm sure the Dodgers countered with Burnes/Phillips, and Stearns said nope. Will be interesting seeing how the poo-poo platter they got from the Dodgers develops. The top guy seems pretty good, but I don't know if even he has the ceiling of Ortiz. And they could have plugged Phillips into a corner spot this year, then in CF for the next 5 years.
  20. I agree with that plan. If I'm reading the tea leaves right, I don't really see that as an option. Stearns basically told Haudricourt yesterday that he sees the 2018 Brewers as a playoff team, and he was planning on finding ways to improve the team to get them there. That is pretty much the opposite of "hold tight" in my opinion. It doesn't necessarily mean he's going to make a bunch of blockbusters, either, but it was interesting hearing his thoughts on the team nonetheless. Now, it could mean minor deals for rentals like Dozier, Tucker Barnhart and Tyson Ross, but that would seem like a bit of a letdown after being in the Machado sweepstakes up until the end. I mean, that's how it could go, but I would say there are better odds that they make a big move than not. I think that a big move is a matter of when, and for who, than a matter of if.
  21. I agree with that plan. Braun will/should play 120 games for the next 2 years if he doesn't have a significant injury. He's hit into some bad luck for parts of this year and the last month or 2 last year...but he's one of our best hitters. Until Jesus's breakout, he was our very best hitter...at this point I think Jesus might be better, but so many on this board wildly underestimate Braun's ability when healthy. Sure, when healthy. Is that ever going to happen again?
  22. Interesting proposal if true. Makes me wonder if Ortiz and Phillips may be used as trade bait in another pre-deadline deal. I wouldn't give either up for a rental, though, besides Machado.
  23. If Realmuto's trade value is similar to Yelich's, I think you are giving up too much. In the Yelich trade, Brinson was ranked #1, and was a MLB top 30-40 guy. Diaz was not a Top 100 guy at the time of the trade, but probably #7-8 in the Brewers system despite a down year. Harrison was not a Top 100, but was a fast mover due to a great 2017. He ranked in the mid-teens organizational wise according to MLB Pipeline. Yamamoto was basically one or two steps above a lottery ticket. So if you are offering Hiura or Burnes as your centerpiece, you sure as heck better be decreasing the value of the secondary pieces. What about something like this: Hiura (centerpiece, more value than Brinson) Diplan (having a great year, perhaps a step below Diaz value wise) Tyrone Taylor (poor man's Harrison equivalent) The Padres gave up a ton of value for a prospect that I think likely ranks similar to Hiura just yesterday.
  24. Ray is more valuable than Dozier. Pass. I agree. I could, however, see someone like Ponce or Supak for Dozier. Not as much upside, but a potential workhorse #3-4 still carries good value.
