  1. Villar is swinging it well lately. He adds so much to this lineup when he's right. Good power, great speed. He is a great player when he manages to get out of his own way.
  2. It doesn't have to be long term, just long enough to send Arcia back to AAA to get bat together. Or until Saladino is healthy enough to come off the DL.
  3. I like the move. He's got pop and defensive versatility. I would imagine he will take Sogard's spot as soon as he shakes the rust off at 2B and SS. To be able to grab a guy who is only 28 and only one year removed from a 30 HR season, who has put up decent OBP numbers in the past, and all you give up is a guy that was signed to a minor league deal, and sits 4th on your 1B depth chart, is a no-brainer. As soon as I saw Miller was DFA'd, I figured he'd be a Brewer. His versatility and left-handed stick fit what Stearns is looking for.
  4. I think it is probably reasonable from the Mets' perspective, but not the Brewers', given Syndergaard or deGrom would be acquired in an attempt to "go for it" this year and in subsequent years. It wouldn't surprise me to see a return of both MLB-ready talent and high-end prospects, though.
  5. Amen. Everyone would be on the table except maybe Yelich. I truly would empty the farm for Syndergaard. So you would give up Aguilar, Shaw, Hader, Taylor Williams, and Arcia (for example)? Just going by your assertion that everyone besides Yelich is on the table. I would love Syndergaard but I'd be a lot more cautious than that. If Syndergaard and deGrom were more important than what we already have we'd be the ones selling assets and the Mets would be the ones contending instead of struggling like they are. Come on, you have to be reasonable as well. I think most anyone can see the Brewers are in a better position to contend than the Mets, who are made up of Syndergaard, deGrom and a bunch of spare parts.
  6. Makes $4.5 million in his second year of arbitration. I imagine that is the case. Tampa is in cost-cutting mode. At 28-32, they have exceeded expectations, but stand no chance of catching the Red Sox and Yankees. If I were Stearns, not only would I be on the phone to inquire on Miller, but Archer and Ramos as well.
  7. Left handed stick, and decent OBP. I could very easily see this happening. I totally forgot that Miller hit 30 bombs in 2016. He's also not old at 28. Edit: His 27% K rate in 2017 would also seem to mesh well with this team, unfortunately.
  8. Syndergaard and deGrom are both the type of franchise type pitchers that you really don't spare any expense for, if they are available. Everyone would be on the table. They aren't just needle movers ... they bury the needle. You are right Plush that the Brewers may not have the horses to get a deal done, especially if teams like the Nationals or Braves make their (in my opinion) overhyped top prospects available. The Yankees have a bunch of overhyped youngsters they can make available as well. What the Brewers would be able to offer, though, is quantity and value. They showed they are willing to pony up in their offseason Yelich deal, while teams like the Nats and Braves haven't shown that they are willing to loosen their grip on their prospects. So the Brewers have that going for them.
  9. I'd give Hiura and Burnes/Peralta (or both). They'd probably ask for Hader, though. But yeah, they are going to ask for the moon, and would likely get it. Cost would be enormous, but getting a guy like Syndergaard would make the team the immediate favorite in the NL. Now that would cause me some pause. However, if they are truly rebuilding, I doubt they want a reliever on the MLB roster. I would assume it would be Hiura, Burnes, Peralta and our second best hitting prospect in their eyes. I would do it without hesitating. Hader is young enough (and cheap enough for the next several years) to be a major value to a rebuilding team. I can't see the Brewers trading major league contributors ... but, the last time they traded for someone of this magnitude (Greinke), MLB talent (Cain, Escobar) was part of the return. A team with the financial resources of the Mets may be looking at a short turn-around with a rebuild, which would make guys like Hader and Arcia possible targets.
  10. I'd give Hiura and Burnes/Peralta (or both). They'd probably ask for Hader, though. But yeah, they are going to ask for the moon, and would likely get it. Cost would be enormous, but getting a guy like Syndergaard would make the team the immediate favorite in the NL.
  11. If they want anything more than a Nate Griep type, then nope.
  12. He got regular at-bats for the first month, and was horrible. I know it's kind of a "chicken or the egg" argument, but the only reason he is not getting regular at-bats now is that, other than a stretch of about a week in May, he's been crappy.
  13. I would agree that, given what he's done since he left, letting him go for nothing was a mistake. But despite his good numbers, he doesn't fit the athletic and versatility profile Stearns seems to target with his up-the-middle players. No one really knows what would have happened had the Brewers hung onto him, but if I had to guess, I'd say that his production wouldn't be anywhere near what it has been in Cincy, where he is playing with really no pressure or without having to look over his shoulder.
  14. I still get the feeling that the Brewers will trade for a younger frontline-type starter with several years of control. The current rotation has greatly exceeded expectations, but not to the point where they couldn't use another guy at the front of the rotation. I too had high hopes that Nelson would be back sometime in June, but the lack up any significant updates on his status has me to the point where anything he contributes this year is going to be gravy. Don't forget that the team is still in the situation where they have a high number of prospects who will need to be added to the 40-man in the offseason, or risk being lost in the Rule 5 Draft. I anticipate several of those guys going in deals before August 1 for a frontline starter, and even afterwards to fill other various roster holes. With how fluid the roster has been so far this season, and the fact that they look to be in contention, the team is definitely going to make trade moves ... probably several.
  15. Nottingham just turned 23 and has torn up AAA so far this year. Hard not to be encouraged by his .345/.412/.621/1.033 line, especially after posting a .695 OPS in AA last year. He probably would've been called up to MLB over the past few weeks had he not been hurt. By all accounts he has majorly improved his defense. It's because people see all the HRs Davis hits, and think we should have gotten more for him. I agree with you completely, though. Nottingham is a very nice prospect, and Derby also has a big league future. And considering where MLB valuations seem to be going (judging by the lack of interest in Santana in the offseason), Davis isn't worth a hill of beans, despite his good power numbers.
  16. Nice to see they are stretching our Houser. Can't have enough starting pitching prospects, and he has the stuff to be a #2-3 starter if he can locate, in my opinion.
  17. Why not end the game with another K? 15 is a good solid number. Wow, that might have been the most pathetic game this team has played all season. The offense is simply atrocious right now.
  18. 13 Ks again today. I think it is time for some changes offensively. Gotta do something.
  19. Do you think the team could get a ticket price discount from the airline if they have both Choi and Santana to the gate by 5 p.m. today?
  20. How has Aguilar gone from looking like one of the best hitters in the league to one of the worst in a week?
