  1. If Bickford continues to get his velocity back up, I'd have to think he's a lock to be protected. He's the exact type of guy teams covet in the Rule 5 - a guy that has stuff and huge potential that can be hidden in the pen for a year. Also, Gatewood is either going to be protected or traded this year. You don't give away a guy with that kind of talent for nothing. I could also see a team taking a chance on Stokes or Kirby and back-of-the-roster guys. Stokes because he is young and has shown flashes, and Kirby because he's a mystery due to injury.
  2. I get that there are different types of fandom, but I agree with the posters calling out the pessimists. It gets really, really old game after game. It is a cop out, like "Yay, I'm glad I'm wrong, go team!" No, you expected them to lose. You don't get to pass go. So what's the proper reaction? Ban me from forums? No, not at all. We're all cheering for the same team. But there is a much different tone to something like "Hard to trust Knebel here" and "Knebel is going to walk the bases loaded and we're going to lose 3-1" I guess I don't know the answer, other than to say that yes, reading the pessimistic Negative Nellie posts does lessen my enjoyment of the game and this site. Who knows, maybe I'm the one that needs banning?

  4. Wow leaving Schwarber in. This seems like a bad match-up from the Cubs perspective.
  5. The sky is falling, the sky is falling The problem is, the falling sky is utterly theoretical at this point.
  6. Man, 2 on and no outs, and nothing to show. That was very much a Brewers inning.
  7. Come on, let's hang 5 on them here, and let Lopez get 6 outs.
  8. Jeffress just being Jeffress. Man is it nice having a couple dominating set-up guys.
  9. Will almost certainly be Hader in the 8th and Knebel in the 9th.
  10. Watch them get cute and throw Lopez out there now. Excuse would be that he's the most well-rested.
  11. 100 pitches. Do they dare bring him back for the 7th? I imagine no, but I wouldn't mind seeing him come out and see if he can grab a few quick outs. It would be great to have a fully rested pen going into the weekend.
  12. He's not going to get through the 6th. He won't get through the 5th if his next AB looks anything like the last two. He'll at least come out for the 6th. Nice recovery in the 5th. Boy, other than Albers's implosion in Game 1, the pitching in this series has been utterly superb. Edit: Unless they manage to put a couple on here.
  13. All the complaints about Chacin being a poor signing and a waste of money for a marginal #5 starter seem like they were a long time ago. He did not look great in April, though. Since, though, he's been better than advertised.
  14. Sooner or later Braun is going to start having some 3-4 hit games. He's killing the ball a lot, but seemingly right at defenders.
  15. I may feel different in 3 years, but right now, Cain was a great signing
  16. Exactly. Dead duck had he tagged and tried it. And you guys would have been yelling about the dumb baserunning. Can't win sometimes.
  17. Coaches must have seen something with Montgomery to make them think they can run at will today.
