  1. Phillips is 24 and Santana is 25. I think we need to tap the brakes a bit on the "not going to be Brewers much longer" talk.
  2. Not a fan of Ozuna. We have him already in Santana. Glad he's playing for the Cards, because he's just not very good.
  3. Suter has solidified himself as a solid member of the rotation. No shaky ground anymore. He's been very consistent for over a month, and is going deeper into games. He's not going to give you shut-outs, but he's not going to blow up on you either. If he can give you 6-7 innings every time out, and keep it under three runs, that works.
  4. Not to sound snarky, but there wasn't a lot good coming out of playing him regularly, either. I agree with the idea to send him to Colorado Springs ASAP. Hopefully he can rediscover his power stroke hitting at altitude. His defense has been noticeably better this year, but he's never going to be a good enough defender to justify mediocre offensive production. If he can't hit for power, he really has no value.
  5. That certainly seems to be the philosophy looking at the last two years of draft picks. Tons of high ceiling bats.
  6. Literally no one is advocating emptying the farm for rentals. Well, I guess there is a little talk of it in the Machado thread, but it's pretty light. Brew4U, when you say "Stay the course", what does that mean? Because David Stearns' "course" so far has been to make some pretty dang big acquisitions, and give up top-flight talent to do it. If there is one area where I totally trust Stearns' judgement, it's on the value of prospects and how they can be used to acquire major MLB pieces. If he determines that Hiura, Burnes and Peralta are in play for a player like Realmuto, DeGrom, Thor or any other potential long-term acquisition, I'm all-in.
  7. Then who do you trade? To get any of the big guns, they are going to have to pay up. Not gonna get a stud pitcher, catcher or infielder without giving up some of our top prospects. Stay the course. brewmann04 has repeatedly pointed to the idea that he is interested in seeing Stearns' deadline activity. I can't imagine "doing nothing" is interesting. I guess my point is, if we are going to improve the major league team in a substantial fashion this summer (especially if acquiring a non-rental), it's going to cost top minor league talent. We aren't going to be able to have it both ways.
  8. Then who do you trade? To get any of the big guns, they are going to have to pay up. Not gonna get a stud pitcher, catcher or infielder without giving up some of our top prospects.
  9. The only downside I can see is that adding him is going to likely mean one more prospect down the pecking order is going to be available in the Rule 5 Draft next year. Hopefully the team can trade a few of those guys so they don't risk losing them.
  10. And That referenced him above. New Australian infielder.
  11. Counsell was quoted recently saying that with Logan being DFA'd, they would likely call up another reliever soon. The DFA opens a spot on the 40-man as well. I wonder if Burnes to Milwaukee is imminent?
  12. There is always good 2B options available. They got Walker for peanuts last year, and he was just fine. Villar has been fine this year, and he's only 27. I'm not saying that Hiura won't be tough to get, but if I can get a controllable TOR starter or someone like Realmuto, bye-bye Keston.
  13. Chacin and Guerra have been terrific. Anderson has shown flashes of being who he was last year. I don't believe in Miley either, but he was good when healthy. Davies was great last year, and is still young. Peralta was electric his first start and tonight. Hopefully Nelson comes back sooner rather than later. And you totally forgot Suter, who has probably been the most consistent starter of anyone over the last month. But he doesn't throw in the mid 90s, so most overlook him. With this electric pen, your dang right I'll take 5 innings and 2-3 runs. That is going to win them most games.
  14. You don’t like Davies? I’m a little confused on that. I miss something? That's wildly unlikely. If Peralta shows enough, maybe Suter shifts to a swing role. But Davies is locked into the rotation. Too many good starting pitchers. I wouldn't have predicted that in February
  15. I don't know about that. Right now the pen is this team's strength in my opinion.
  16. I was wondering the same thing. Pretty odd move if there isn't a bigger reason for it. The Brewers don't necessarily need him as a reliever, though, and it would be a pretty big disappointment to see him moved into a relief role. He hasn't disappointed as a start at all. I'm sure our crack team of beat journalists will ignore it, though.
  17. He has also made his way into "untouchable" territory in my mind. A second baseman that can hit like that.. If there's one thing he has done this year, it's certify himself as a legit centerpiece in a big trade. I think he's a legit Top 15 guy at this point, and dangling him will put the Brewers in position to acquire pretty much whichever big name they may possibly want at the deadline.
  18. Someone better do a health and wellness check on clancyphile. (I didn't know whether to put that in blue or not)
  19. Brad Miller continues to show he isn't the present or future at SS. Glad they sent him to AAA to prove how horrible he is there. I actually would love if the Brewers give up any hope of him playing SS and just have Miller replace Sogard on the roster. The Brewers can just do what they did yesterday with Perez at SS until/if they get an actual upgrade at SS. Perez being hot right now buys Miller time to get acclimated. It won’t last. Perez is what he is. We will see Miller soon. You are really digging your heels in on this one. I'm enjoying the back-and-forth it's producing
  20. I think you are right about the B.S. portion of that statement. The Marlins got three of the Brewers' Top 10 prospects, and a young pitching wildcard. Brinson, Harrison and Diaz are still very highly ranked prospects. I have to believe, too, that those guys aren't the only prospects that the Brewers offered. They are who the Marlins chose, and I HIGHLY doubt they are going to be leery of dealing with the Brewers again.
  21. Exactly, plus you can add Suter to that mix once Davies or Miley comes back. Granted Hader and Jennings aren't necessarily lefty specialists, but Counsell hasn't been using Logan that way anyway, so that doesn't matter. Logan wouldn't need to be replaced with a lefty. I love that they are stretching out Houser as a starter at AAA, but his high 90s FB would be a nice fit at the back end of the MLB pen.
  22. Now that Bob McGinn is done, none of the other beat guys are going to have the guts to call the Packers and Moss on that crap. There's a little bit of sniping about it on Twitter, but nothing substantial. Wilde's question was fine, but it means nothing if he doesn't follow it up with a column about how unacceptable it is for a team owned by fans to treat media that way. McCarthy, Gute and Murphy need to be criticized for allowing that to happen. It is embarrassing.
  23. I think Davis is a DH only. I believe that playing him anywhere else would be losing baseball.
