    Seems like a big price to pay for a guy who hasn't shown much since being a high pick. But he is a good-sized righty who throws hard (touching 97) and is only 24. The Brewers have earned the benefit of the doubt, especially when developing pitching, so we'll see.

    92 wins. This team has proven to be resilient, at least in the regular season. No reason to expect otherwise, unless you are a pessimist.

    You were upset that the Brewers traded Ginter to the A's for Cruz and Lehr? That's kind of an odd one to get upset about IMO. I could totally understand, though, if you were upset that they gave up on Cruz too early, and shipped him to the Rangers in the package for Cordero, Mench and Nix. Considering Cruz is a possible HOF'er, that would make more sense.

    It could very well be a three-way race between the Steelers, Giants and Vikings. I believe the report that he is intrigued by the Vikings' opening, but is probably weighing whether pulling a total Favre would completely tarnish the legacy he built in Green Bay.

    Kupp's skillset would be pretty redundant with Doubs, Wicks, Reed and Heath around. He was never a burner, but at this point in his career, he's strictly a possession guy. The Packers are in dire need of a receiver that can take the top off a defense until Watson is once again healthy. Bo Melton has some of those traits, but he's inconsistent. After missing out on Metcalf, I almost sort of expected them to throw a cheap contract at MVS, but that didn't happen. Not they are pretty much forced to look for that component in the draft, unless a trade comes out of nowhere.

    I personally think that is the thought at play. Give Tom the bag and move him to LT, then have Morgan slide in at RT. Walker has been solid, if not good at LT, but you can't pay everyone. I could see him as trade bait eventually.

    But then, if you were giving up that much, you'd have to be 100% sure that Mayo can pretty much immediately be an above-average bat and key cog for the next several years. Then convince the Orioles that adding Peralta to their rotation and waiting around for Boeve or Wilken's potential is a better bet than just finding a spot for Mayo on their current World Series-contending team.

    I think if the Vikings signed him, it would be as the surefire starter. I don't think there is any way his ego would allow him to sign with a team intending on a QB competition. Plus, McCarthy wasn't exactly a sure-fire future star coming into the draft last year, and is coming off a serious injury that is basically making him a rookie again. That said, there would be no one standing in his way for a starting job on both the Giants and Steelers. The Steelers are probably a better bet for a playoff run, and have better skill position talent across the board.

    I'd be very surprised to see him succeed as a starter. Simply because that conversion from reliever to starter is so rare. But stranger things have certainly happened.

    I am certainly not a fan of giving up good arms for nothing, but it truly remains to be seen whether this was a mistake. I remember many upset when the Brewers gave up on Phil Bickford, who went on to have some short-lived success with the Dodgers before flaming out. Middling relief arms are expendable. That's just how it is. And chances are, unless the Brewers REALLY missed on Smith, his ceiling is as a middling relief arm.

    DJ Reed to the Lions. 3 years, $48 million. Would have been a good fit for the Packers, but instead goes to their division rival. That one stings.

    The implosion potential of that triangle is immeasurable.

    It's a numbers game, and he isn't even on the 40-man roster yet. That said, even if he doesn't make the opening day roster, it doesn't mean he won't play a pivotal role this season.

    This creates a positive domino effect, effectively pushing Ashby and Hall (when healthy) to the pen, and guys like Misiorowski and Henderson to the AAA rotation to get more seasoning. It also potentially pushes Yoho to the Nashville pen, at least for the beginning of the season. You have to like the pitching depth this team is looking at, including all the young, talented arms in AAA.

    Quintana for basically the same $$$ that Collin Rea would have made this year. That is certainly not terrible.

    You have to go back a few years (ok more than a few), but Dunn compares pretty favorably Casey McGehee, who managed to put up some solid seasons at the hot corner for the Brewers after his unheralded acquisition. Dunn obviously bats lefty and is a substantially better athlete than McGehee. Going back further, Dunn gives me some Tyler Houston vibes. Houston was a bright spot for some bad teams in the early 2000s
