  1. Getting an MRI on it today. He was asked after the game, and he didn't know if it would be a few day thing, or a 4-week thing.
  2. Why in the world are they clearing all these 40-man spots? This is very odd roster construction if there isn't a bigger move afoot.
  3. Being in this situation myself, he's likely scared. Probably petrified. But it has absolutely nothing to do with baseball.
  4. That's the type of thing that makes baseball both the most rewarding and most frustrating. If you're the Padres, you know you stole that one.
  5. I think moreso he's probably just sick of the consistent negative hot takes.
  6. Ethan Small is 25. He's been very good since drafted in the 1st round as a college arm, and has been close to dominant the last couple years in AAA. How much more development time could honestly be needed?
  7. Yes, walks are figured into calculating a player's wRC+ value. And as I mentioned, and will repeat, Hiura's sample this season vs. right-handed pitching is very small. So in theory a cold week vs. right-handed pitching could bring that value down quite quickly. But stats don't lie.
  8. As mentioned above, he's got a 194 wRC+ vs righties. Considering Vlad Jr. led all of baseball last year with a 196 wRC+ overall and finished 2nd in the AL MVP vote, yes, Hiura is crushing righties so far. The sample is very small, however.
  9. To be fair, those criticisms weren't solely based on how he looked against Fried yesterday. Coming into yesterday's game, Keston was barely above a .200 average and was striking out at a nearly 50% clip. Granted it's been a small sample, but he really hadn't shown anything to make it a larger sample. Perhaps yesterday's heroics will flip a switch, and Counsell will be more inclined to get him regular ABs now. I really wish he could play 3B, because that would make it much easier to find ABs for him. As it stands, you can't sacrifice Rowdy's ABs. I wouldn't mind giving Keston a few more starts at DH against righties, though. Give Cutch all those ABs against lefties.
  10. Ditto ... this game had all the markings of one of those random get-away day games where they go down early, and just play out the string in a boring afternoon. It ended up being anything but.
  11. Just imagine if we had Nick Castellanos and J.D. Martinez?
  12. So nice to steal this one. Looked like a sure loss after Burnes gave up that inexplicable 4-spot early, with Fried dealing on the other side. This team has a little something in them.
  13. That didn't take long. Stop employing side-armers. Every one is pretty much a batting practice pitcher.
  14. Trevor Kelley? Well ... ok. I guess. (I hate side-armers)
  15. Crowd thought that Jace launched that one 450 feet. Seriously AmFam crowd? You're better than that. Sounded like Wrigley.
  16. Healthy Yelich is such a smooth ballplayer. Everything just looks effortless.
  17. Hoby Milner? The only explanation is that something is bothering Hader. No other reason he wouldn't be pitching here.
  18. At least he didn't whif at 3 straight upper zone fastballs
