  1. The dodgers traded 6 of their top 30 prospects last year so its very possible to get a good prospect for Mench. I think somone like Tony Abreu would be a good fetch for Milwaukee.
  2. I really think Leiber woudl be a heck of a closer or 8th inning guy if anyone ever gave him a chance. He works fast, has a heck of a slide step and gets alot of ground balls which results in Double play balls. If I were a team looking for a sleeper at closer - lieber - with the phills picknig up some salary would be the guy Id target.
  3. I love the deal - another veteran left handed bat off the bench, and this one can play anywhere on the field. He is hitting the heck out of the ball this spring 12-33 with with four runs, three doubles, one triple, one homer and eight RBI in nine spring games.
  4. I dont believe I care much for the trade but Mora used to be a utility guy I think
  5. In all seriousness - I am sure The Washington Nationals would give Hendrickson a real shot at their rotation as would the DevilRays. He also would have a chance in Kansas City. On one hand I think I would explore trade opportunities with those 3 teams right away. But on the other I want Hendrickson to get a chance in Spring - cause one of these days he is going to put it together - his Curve ball is just so good.
  6. In my humble opinion, Quinlan would fit a major hole we have in the lineup and that is the need for a #2 hitter and a backup for Koskie. This is Jeff Cirillo.
  7. I proposed the same idea on an angels board. This was the most solid response I got. It makes me think that we might also be able to pick up Eric Aybar(defensive wizard) if we were willing to pick up some of Jenks salary. (granted its just one mans opinion) --------------------------------------------------- There are probably several posters here who could play the OF as good as Quinlan. He's no corner OFer. And he is barely adequate at 3rdbase. Reality is that Hillenbrand has already been given a whole lot of Quinlan's 2007 AB's. And if either or both of Kotchman/Morales step it up in Spring Training and Rivera comes back, AB's for Q will be even harder to come by than in 2006.. Heck, I like Quinlan better than Hillenbrand...but Hillenbrand is here and he is going to play...and he will be at 1b or DH....the same 2 spots that Q needs to get AB's. The Angels are not likely to get more than at most 130 OF starts from eithe Guerrero or GA. And Rivera may or may not be back to health. The Angels need a corner OFer...and a LHed power bat. Jenkins mashes RHers (.871 OPS in 2006, .892 career) the same way Q mashes lefties. GA and Kotchman are the only 2 healthy LHed bats on the wholeAngels 40 man roster!. And Kotchman may not even make the team out of Spring. The Angels need a LHed stick. If Jenkins were in Anaheim, he should be in the line-up (at LF,RF, or DH) every game vs RH starters. This would give him 400+ AB's. And his .871 OPS against RHers exceeds any Angels 2006 OPS vs RHers. Q is liklely going to be lucky to get 200 AB's in 2006. The real problem is the giant difference in salary between Q and Jenkins. The Brewers kick in some $ for part of Jenkins salary and this is a no-brainer for me. I do that deal. 8. I guess I could say great minds think alike but I dont want to put myself in that class. That said - Garrett Anderson is a pretty bad LFer and is quite injury prone himself. Taking him from his DH role and playing him every day in LF is a bad combo. Jenkins is suggested to go to the Angels more for his defense than he is for his offense. I truely think that Jenkins still does fit with the Angels, and that Quinlan is definatly available from the Angels point of view.
  9. a Brewerfan.net interview with Mike Jones would be quite cool at this point.
  10. Quinlin can clearly hit - if Koskie isnt ready he would be on the field quite often. He could back up Prince should he go down or need a day off. He also can play a corner OF spot. For the Angels - with Riveria breaking his leg and not expected to be ready for Spring I think they could use a guy like Jenks who plays solid D, is a left handed hitter, and a veteran bat. Quinlan just signed 2 years 1.8 Million and isnt expected to see more than 240 Abs so I would expect htat he is expendable - especially with the deep Angels farm system. Thoughts?
  11. Thanks Brian - small price to pay for the best brewer news around.
  12. I remember at one time Brewerfan.net was taking donations. I have been broke forever but have a couple extra bucks (please dont get excited its not much) that I would like to donate to Brewerfan.net. Is there a Paypal address?
  13. Isnt Cordero Arby Eligable after 2007? Maybe this is a deal we could swing come All Star Break? Cordero is going to be up for a GIGANTIC raise some the first 2 months of the 2008 calander year.
  14. I would imagine Cameron would just move to a corner OF spot. 2005 He played 68 games in RF for the Mets - although he and Jenks make almost identical amounts of money.
  15. I think Washington might go for that if we brought back Christian Guzman(4.3mil?) in return.
  16. I guess in an ideal world - I would like to get a Bullpen arm to battle in Spring with our other options (if Wagner didnt make the team or wasnt lights out you cut or trade him right?) and a very nice minor league prospect who is AA ready. I dont see why Jenks cant bring in something like that. If Wagner didnt make the team at least you still have that high quality arm in your system. I guess others dont agree that Jenks could bring what I suggest or that it would be worth it, but that is my thinking anyhow.
  17. I disagree Jack. I dont even think Wagner is a lock to make the team. The BP is one of the few areas of strength for Washington. Washington needs to show some improvement this season with the new park opening next season, and adding one or 2 veterans to the lineup would do wonders for the team.
  18. First I want to start this off by saying I would prefer to see Jenks as a Brewer this year. Let me also say that I predict a MAJOR breakout season for Gabe Gross if given ample opportunity. Anyhow - I think that a logical destination for Jenkins and is WASHINGTON. In Return I would ask for Ryan Wagner (the Nats have alot of Bullpen arms) whos upside I think is off the charts and is just 24 years old and one of their prospects - preferring Collin Balester who for whatever reason reminds me of a young Ben Sheets. Fastball(92-95)/big curve and working on developing a changeup. Tony Graffanino/Craig Counsell would seem to be a perfect fit for Washinton as well. I like the depth they provide, but to me thats a easy deal to dump Jenks salary and pick up a couple young pitchers in return. Does anyone have any thoughts on the deal? Clearly the NATS need a corner OF and middle of the order bat. Middle of the NATS order would be much better. I would project their lineup as : 1. (ss) Fillipe Lopez 2. (2b) Counsell or Graffy 3. (1b) Nick Johnson L 4. (3b)Ryan Zimmerman R 5. (rf) Geoff Jenkins L 6. (cf) Austin Kearns R 7. (lf) Ryan Church 8. © Schneider
  19. Id be all over that deal to be quite honest.
  20. Per the Miami Herald: Marlins general manager Larry Beinfest said that newly acquired outfielder Alex Sanchez could win the starting centerfield position in spring training. ``He's had a lot of success in the big leagues. We like his speed. He can bunt. He can do a lot of things that put pressure on people." I propose that we pick up half of Bradys salary and send him to Florida. I reallu like that Sinkbeil kid
  21. Mark A seems willing to pay Jenks Salary this season. Jenks is in a contract year. The last time Jenks was in a contract year he was coming off a really bad year hitting .247 in only 67 games. He struck out 60 times vs just 59 hits. The Next year, his contract was up and he responded by posting an amazing year, hitting .296 28 Homers, 95RBI, .913OPS and slugging .538 End of April 2001 Geoff Jenkins signed a 4 year 18 Million dollar contract (I believe - if anyone can confirm I would appreciate. I believe his agent was Dan Lozanzo) So looking back at his stats for 2000, he posted the following #s. .303 BA 34 HR 94 RBI .360OBP .948 OPS and slugging .588 Jenkins clearly might be a guy who is motivated by money - NOT THAT THERE IS ANYTHIGN WRONG WITH THAT. He is playing for what likely is going to be his last contract. I really want to keep him around this season. People say we have too much depth, but I guess since when is that a bad thing. Maybe we can move the depth for an upgrade in the rotation or bullpen at the All Star Break but not Jenks. I dont want to look to move Jenkins anymore. Id rather look to move Brady Clark so that Gabe Gross can be the clear cut 4th OF. I really think our Bullpen will be OK. I am excited about Capellan. Who isnt excited about Cordero. I think Turnbow can bounce back, in fact I would be surprised if he doesnt. I remember how effective Matt Wise was. Brian Shouse is a super effective left hander out of the Pen. Dennis Sarfate is a young fireballer and has as much upside as any guy we could expect to pull in a trade for Jenks. Same for Aquino. I dont think this team needs much tinkering other than finding a way to make sure we get Gross enough at bats. In 2007 there is a FAR better chance that Jenks is part of the solution than he is part of the problem. He did hit over .400 the last month of the season after his benching. I have waivered on this one but I am in stone now and definatly want to see Jenks a part of the team in 2007 PROVIDED that Mark is willing to pay his 7 Million.
  22. I think Petit would be a AAA guy to start the year and would be a top 5 prospect in the organization. I dont personally know how I feel about moving Turnbow at this point though. I do like Petit though, quite a bit actully and have proposed getting him in trades before on this board.
  23. Hardy has done absolutly nothing to lock up that Starting SS position, and Doug Melvin brought in some competition this offseason. That said, Hardy gets the benefit of the doubt because everything about him says he will be a great player in this league for many years to come. He also from various postings on this site and elsewhere, has become somewhat of a clubhouse leader.
  24. So Cashman paid, 9 million dollars, Nick Johnson, Randy Choate, Juan Rivera, Brad Halsey, and Dioner Navarro for Randy Johnson. Also remember that the Yanks gave him a 30+ Million dollar 2 year extension upon acqiring him. Thats frickin hilarious.
  25. The Redsox are STILL in the market for a closer. With Manny and Drew on the corners and Coco Crisp in CF, they have some give when it comes to moving Willy Mo Pena. I know the masses have lost faith in Turnbow and think that Cordero is the Dominican Rollie Fingers, but Pena would give us an unreal offensive lineup, one that would rival anyone in the National League. I want to see Cordero offered to Boston. I guess my problem is that I still believe in Turnbow. I believe that Jose Capellan is ready to take a more prominent role in the Pen as a setup guy. I believe Matt Wise can return to form. I believe Cordero is a really good closer and a frickin blast to watch pitch, but he isnt as great as he looked here in his brief stint in Milwaukee. The Redsox Pen is really pretty deep at this time. Kevin Donnely, JC Romero, Mike Timlin, Wilie Taverez, Craig Hansen, and Hideki Okajima are all real solid. That leaves some real nice arms on the outside looking in. Lefty - Kason Gabbard, whom would make an excellent long relief man. He worked out of both the Pen and as a starter in 2006. Lefty - Craig Brieslow - who ironically enough was drafted by the Brewers in 2002. RHP - Manny Declarmen - was one of the brightest prospects in the Redsox organization until he was derailed by Tommy John Surgery in 2003. Came back from Tommy John and now throws a high 90s fastball along with a plus curve and good changeup. No doubt that he would be a nice addition to the Brewers BP. My proposal would be to give the Sox Jenkins and Cordero and in return take Pena and Manny Declarmen and one of John Sickels top 10 Redsox Prospects : 1 Jacoby Ellsbury, OF, Grade B+ (not as much power as Damon but otherwise similar) 2 Clay Buchholz, RHP, Grade B+ (good combination of stuff and command) 3 Michael Bowden, RHP, Grade B+ (good combination of stuff and command) 4 Craig Hansen, RHP B+ (I am still optimistic about him but he was rushed) 5 Lars Anderson, 1B, B (I love this guy, enormous power potential) 6 Daniel Bard, RHP, B (Best stuff in the system but may need more time than other college arms) 7 Dustin Pedroia, 2B, B (Another personal favorite) 8 George Kottaras , C, B (Should be ready in 2008, solid player but not terrific) 9 Justin Masterson, RHP, B (Underrated ground ball artist with great control) 10 Bryce Cox, RHP, B- (Great arm but Rice pitchers scare me) Most will probably say we are giving up too much here but I really dont think so. Getting Pena would put our offense over the top. Jenkins would be a real nice 4th OF for Boston and his salary will look like pennies to Theo Epstein. The deal might also help keep Manny happy, because I believe he and CoCo are good friends. 2007 Milwaukee Brewers 1. 2b Rickie Weeks R - We will live and die by his leadoff skills 2. rf - Corey Hart R - gets to build on a good 2006 3. 1b - Prince Fielder L - With some real boppers behind him - big things on the horizon 4. cf - Willy Mo Pena R - Pitchers will have to come after him with Koskie behind and Prince in front. 5. C - Johnny Estrada - S - Having a switch hitter in the middle of the order is going to make things real tough on opposing bullpens. The Majority of Estradas career has been out of the 5 spot. 6. lf - Bill Hall - R put up best numbers hitting 6th last year - 7.3b - Corey Koskie L .910 OPS out of the 7 spot in career. 8. SS - JJ Hardy - put him on a no pressure spot in the order and hope that he can fulfil his potential. Bench -------------- Miller Mench Gross Counsell Graffanino Available for trade - Brady Clark - we keep Mench because he would provide a right handed power bat off the bench. Rotation ------------- Sheets Capuano Bush Suppan Vargas Bullpen ------------- Wise Shouse Capellan Turnbow Aquino Declarman Its just a random thought and bound to be an unpopular one because of all the Coco love around here. If Turnbow should falter(which I really do not think he will) then Capellan can get a shot at the closer role or even Aquino. I truly believe that you can make a great closer (kolb, dejean, papelbon, bj ryan, joe nathan, borowski, chris ray). I also remember when we acquired Capellan MANY of us thought that his stuff was best suited for a future closer role. Anyhow - happy new years - I hope 2007 is your best year yet.
