  1. Baltimore can pound sand, not emptying for 1 year of Manny, he's going to get $250 million + on his next deal
  2. Cubs desperately trying to drive up the price IMHO. If Im the Rays Im asking for Happ Schwarber and Russell and a prospect or two.
  3. Problem is people will overpay for a perceived front line pitcher and TB will play everybody against everybody (10-20 teams will be interested). so its really what people are willing to pay (thats his price). what does Archers numbers translate to playing in the NL Central and he doesn't have to face NY and Boston 25% of the season, not to mention Baltimore's offense.
  4. why do I get the feeling we're going to be very disappointed with this off season..........
  5. To get 4 years of Archer and a trade package headlined by Brinson (position of strength) you do this deal. For the millionth time all of our prospects are not going to make it to the majors, use them as assets. I would be super excited if they get Archer and build up the bullpen. Archer Anderson Davies Nelson/Suter Woodruff/Hader With a lights out bullpen and Braun getting his head out of his ass 2018 will be rosy
  6. what about Broxton and a minor leaguer for Panik?
  7. Cubs are trying to block us, drive up the price etc....
  8. Sabathia is starting to grow on me, 1 or 2 year deal, $10-$15 million and I think the fan base would love it.
  9. Please don't compare Arrietta to Wolf, Suppan, Garza Lohse etc..... Good grief
  10. Hard pass. These 2 moves would basically open up a 2-3 year window of contention, followed by a nasty rebuild. It also significantly limits what we can do to bolster the pen this offseason and probably isn't enough to make us a favorite to win the NL central in 2018. Or a 4 year run of playoffs and possible WS, Hard YES!!!!! and we would still have room to add payroll.
  11. Supposedly, Stanton won't approve a trade to the Cardinals
  12. How about we go for this, sign Arrietta and trade for Archer, Suter moves back to swing, 6th starter. Please read this Stearns.
  13. MLB wants this guy here this year badly, he is a marquee player. Look for this deal to get compromised/grandfathered or whatever today IMHO
  14. I think you need to see 1 more season of Harrison. if he struggles then include him in a deal. If he blows up Brinson may become available. all of these minor leaguers can't make the bigs so use them as assets, much like the Packer situation from last year, depending what you believe the Packers could have gotten a #3 or #4 round pick for Hundley, Now NOTHING Recently Callis said he's "all in" On Monte Harrison I'm going with Callis
  15. I don't think this deal is about the money
  16. I've seen articles were Arcia's defense (and reputation) are overrated so pick you poison but your statement "but he's got all the tools" to be perhaps the best in the league" is based on what? Swanson and Arcia had 20 errors each, next guy had 12 please elaborate on the tools. Thanks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wix-5EpqXVo - we can start there on tools. He has plus glove, plus range, plus arm, double plus instincts...he's a natural shortstop that can make every highlight reel play and then some. The E total relates to consistency, which is something he needs to work on for sure. Also relates to him being able to get to balls that many SS wouldn't dream of making a play on...see example above. He's also 22. He'll grow into his position and get more consistent, the Brewers are clearly banking on it. Everybody has a highlight reel and there are a lot of great SS's in the majors. Almost everybody on this team is available in the right deal if the haul is enough. Arcia brings a top line starter and the Brew take a shot at Cozart, problem solved. whether you like Dubon or not he is another option. If people aren't believing the 86-76 I get it but if you do think this team is that good now is exactly the right time to go get a big time starter, depending on the price.
  17. I've seen articles were Arcia's defense (and reputation) are overrated so pick you poison but your statement "but he's got all the tools" to be perhaps the best in the league" is based on what? Swanson and Arcia had 20 errors each, next guy had 12 please elaborate on the tools. Thanks.
  18. Why is the world would the Brewers trade Davies in an Archer deal. That kind of defeats the purpose of trading for him doesn't it. I'm going to stop before I say something unfriendly to a fellow posters Brewers are very high on Dubon. Arcia's defense is NOT elite
  19. Think Archer pitching in the NL, does that help?
  20. Brinson and Arcia are both replaceable IMHO. Dubon can take SS and the VERY popular Brett Phillips can man CF. Unless you are dipping into FA we are going to have to give something to get a #1 or #2. Monte Harrison is coming on big time, how many OF'ers can make the majors?
  21. How about Brinson and Arcia ?
  22. Rays are listening. Archer under team friendly contract for 4 years I believe. I'm going after him with all guns a blazin if I'm Stearns. Don't want to trade Burnes or Hiura though.
  23. I guess this board is so used to losing and us pissing away money going back to the Jeffrey Hammonds signing this is where we set our sights. Hell no!!!!! we have $40-$60 million to spend and I'm supremely confident Stearns will use that money wisely. He might not spend all of it this year but this guy knows what he's doing. If he's going to spend $10 million on somebody it isn't going to be for a mediocre or average innings eater IMHO. In Stearns I TRUST!!!!
  24. If we go 5/100 for a starter we better be right. Pass on Lynn. I would take a swing at Arrietta.
