  1. If we're rocking and it looks like our pitching prospects are producing, or on the verge, I say we trade Capuano. As mentioned earlier, he could easily be gone in the near future, and while he may be our only lefty, such things are almost trivial to me, with the advent of the bullpen for needed match-ups. Furthermore, and I know this may sound petty, but he is a Duke-educated Economics major, which would signal to me his preoccupation with that which is green (and I'm not talking Elijah Dukes' green, though I would love to see the package of Rocco or Crawford include the former linebacker). But such talk is not applicable until Yo and/or CV the Younger force managements' hands.
  2. Watching Bush last year with that crazy facial hair (and sometimes bald head), I was reminded of an Angry Plumber Super Mario Bros.-style. As for the game yesterday, I think the most disheartening part was that Dennis Sarfate continues to nibble. Much like Corey Hart last ST, this ST I am overtly rooting for Sarfate, the guy who this past winter must have elicited many a chuckle with his usage of Ben's new nickname (Thanks Zycho).
  3. I like how. when comparing Braun to Maybin, you say that Braun has 2-3 tools while Maybin has all five. For comparisons sake, I would take Braun's average AND Power over Maybin's. Braun's speed is only slightly lower than Maybin's, and his arm is but a notch below as well (while Braun's power would put Maybin to shame at present). Braun's overal athleticism should allow him to stay at third, which means he is but one notch below Maybin on the defensive spectrum. Given that he is much closer to the majors, and he already comes equipped with a ready-made MLB quality bat (honed as the Frosh of the Year), I don't think you can say Jack made the wrong pick. And for reference, I actually wanted Braun over Zimmerman, and still think that Zim is going to have the worst career of Braun, Gordon, and Zim, which will probably open up another debate.
  4. I believe Mike Maddux prefers the term, "Efficient Pitching." But the Angry Plumber, Cappy, Suppan, CV the Younger (who I know isn't starting, but still adheres), and the Sheeter (especially) make you work for first base.
  5. What about a Stephen Chapman story?
  6. I liked how he picked Inman for his Milwaukee Minor League Pitcher of the Year, though I have to ask why they didn't explicitly point to him as a "mover" in his own league nor mention his affinity for keeping the ball in the park, for the most part.
  7. And he holds the Virginia High School record for K's.
  8. 68. Will Inman, RHP, Brewers Age: 20 Acquired: 3rd round, 2005, Tunstall HS (Dry Fork, VA) Last season, Inman dominated the Sally League: 110.2 innings, 1.71 ERA, 134 strikeouts, 24 walks, 3 homers allowed. On the downside, he's small for a right-hander, and his stuff doesn't wow the scouts. He'll face a big test in the high minors, but so far so good. And yet they still doubt him. He's built like a tree! Why do they continue to say he's small? As Troy Smith said, "They act as if being 6' tall is a disease."
  9. Much like my father told me when J-Walk began running...his mouth, "someone must be giving the kid some bad advice."
  10. I didn't mean any disrespect. Much of my babble is in jest. Nevertheless, the "prospects" of which you speak are hardly even considered fodder, at present. Right now, if we were to get good value for one of our pitching prospects, the two top targets would be Yo or CV the Younger. Then again, I am an avid fan of Will Inman and there is reason he is excluded from my list of pitching prospect touchables.
  11. The TALENT doesn't quite drop off as much as the RESULTS. I would argue STILL that Mark Rogers, on talent alone, is a top 10 prospect, even with the injury. It's just a matter of sustained success.
  12. In reference to calling Santana a prospect, it was in regards to the proposed trade immediately following the demise of Josh Paul... Hence, Ervin Santana WAS considered, at the time, a prospect. And what I mean in reference to them HOARDING their prospects, I say it in regards to their reluctance to trade unproven depth (most notably the middle infield, though Callaspo was able to escape their clutches) for top quality hitters in their prime to protect "The Flailing One."
  13. Reed, did no one tell you? It's Spring Training time, a time that is filled with optimism. Also, the law of averages says that sometime in the near future, one of our pitching prospects is going to pan, probably more.
  14. I may be in the minority but I wouldn't do that trade. Jenkins, while more expensive, is also better and has but one truly horrific year. I would gamble on his career year, and imagine what a CAREER year from GJ might be.
  15. It's looking more and more likely that we could be in a position to snatch Matt Wieters. Good times.
  16. And when your 40-man (or 25 man) roster is filled with A-Ball and AA fodder, what do you do? Sometimes it is best to do a quantity for quality (which is where I think our organization needs to be heading, but that's for another thread). Also, for all their hording, who are the Cali Angels starting at the hot corner? And how is Jeff Mathis' ascension to the backstop throne going at present? For that matter, who was the last homegrown position prospect for Arte to actually live up to expectations? Wait for it... Wait for it... Much like Ryan Reynolds, I'm still WAITING.
  17. Perhaps the Angels learned their lesson of hording prospects after the Dallas fiasco and Mathis' demise. You can only start one pitcher and eight position players per game...
  18. Clayton Kershaw and Evan Longoria were both plucked last year. But I guess they are "Big Prospects", as there has been debate as to how Evan compares to Braun...though I don't understand that at all.
  19. A year ago, I wouldn't have done that deal. Now...it goes without saying but look at everything that has happened. Also, from all the reports, it seems that Josh Fields is being moved to the outfield, and they are going to make a concerted effort to resign Crede, which is evidenced by their expulsion of over-priced pitchers.
  20. But why couldn't we turn him into a cross between Chone Figgins and Bill Hall (circa first half, last year). He has speed and power, and a trade would have to humble him a bit, at least enough to realize his best chance for seeing the green of MLB is to play wherever and whenever.
  21. I understand that, but I figured with Mike Sweeney always being rumored to the BoSox, that Shealy would then shift to DH. But let me guess, Billy Butler? I doubt we'll see him for at least a year.
  22. Why not let Upton be a utility guy for a year, then put him where he fits next year, like we did with Billy? And by the way, if memory serves me correctly, Upton was the second overall pick, Justin was the top pick. But if we put BJ at third with Graffy until Braun came up, and then let him spell JJ with late game subs to Counsell, it wouldn't be so bad. And with Yo coming up quickly, and Zach Jack stirring, CV the Younger may get squeezed out sooner rather than later. Imagine the nugget that Melvin would extract with that haul. I could see BJ and Edwin Jackson (Maddux could be just what the former Dodger needs to boost his confidence, and turn him into the frontline starter he was once projected...and yes, I saw his numbers the last few years, but he could have the long relief role, and basically hang out with Castro and CoCo and LEARN!) Nevertheless, I would love to see BJ donning the Retro Blues this season, and I am still of the belief that D-Bow the T-Bow doesn't B-Low.
  23. He raked for a bit last year after initially stalling. The question I have is why they don't use Alex Gordon at first, as he was originally relegated to first at Team USA by Ryan Zimmerman, because of Zimmerman's defense. But as for a trade for Teahan, I think the Royals would have to be blown away right now by a deal, as they have two young cornerstones (Teahan was obtained, originally, for Carlos Beltran) and no true need, financially or otherwise, topusue trades.
  24. I really wish you would have printed the top prospect TRIO list, as I couldn't believe the exception in there. Inman is...UNBELIEVABLE! He almost went an entire year without giving up a HR. He kept his ERA under TWO for most of the year! And he is, of course, the state of Virginia's record holder for K's...and he k's in the minors with ease. In a recent survey of our top prospects, I put Inman #1, over Yo, though I did it more to simply be different, my defense was inarguable. He's a stout stud who is a true....young....PITCHER. When Maddux gets in touch with the kid, it is going to be an over-crowded bandwagon, moreso probably because Prince, Rickie, and THE KID are raking in an infield, hopefully joined Isreal's finest from the U. Nevertheless... 1. OF Delmon Young, 3B Evan Longoria, SS Reid Brignac (Devil Rays) 2. OF Justin Upton, OF Chris Young, OF Carlos Gonzalez (Diamondbacks) 3. RHP Homer Bailey, OF Jay Bruce, 1B Joey Votto (Reds) 4. 3B Alex Gordon, OF Billy Butler, RHP Luke Hochevar (Royals) 5. 3B Andy LaRoche, LHP Clayton Kershaw, LHP Scott Elbert (Dodgers) Perhaps he just wanted to showcase some Dodger love and he didn't go ten deep either. But nevertheless, Inman is getting no respect. Nevertheless, if you had to rank AAA rotations, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better one than ours.
  25. Also, with the sale of the Braves, I find it hard to believe they would trade one of their most recognizable stars for anything less than a "name", if only a prospect "name". Also, it wouldn't be a one year rental, as they would only trade him if they fell off a great deal and were completely eliminated. I would say that Torii Hunter is the better trade target for a one year rental, if you're looking.
