  1. www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061214&content_id=148694&vkey=news_milb&fext=.jsp Today, we are subjected to a mailbag regarding the top 50. In regards to the Brew Crew, it states that Yo Gallardo is the third best pitching prospect in baseball behind the big two power righties, Hughes and Homer. Hughes is described as having the pitchability of Maddux, while Homer is questioned for his lack of a third pitch. Brewer fans know all too well how poorly a pitcher with only a hammer curve and a high-nineties heater will fare in the majors. It also makes reference to Yo's ability to make a hitter look foolish with an assortment of four ginsu pitches, which explains why the gent led the minors in K's last year. After that, just a bunch of non-Brewer related wash.
  2. Any trade where we get a pitcher and centerfielder of note for Bill Hall is the type of trade I see us doing this offseason. Now make it happen!
  3. Clark for Prior? If ever he were to regain some of his earlier success, it'd be like buying quite low. And he is still quite young and anyone who saw him take an errant line drive off his leg knows he is just a product of bad luck.
  4. As many have previously stated, Moneyball's approach wasn't so much "Take the college kid" as much as it was "Identify that which is undervalued..."
  5. I would imagine it is more a reflection of Doug Melvin's yearning for speed. Taveras may have a bevy of it, but his numbers turn me off like a field trip to Curves. I'll pass.
  6. What about... Chone Figgins UT Jeff Mathis C and Bartolo Colon SP Jose Arredondo SP for Bill Hall SS/3B Geoff Jenkins OF Damien Miller C We add a former Cy Young winner and a TRUE utility player with excess speed, and acquire a high ceiling pitching prospect and a fallen prospect nugget-type. We shed two contracts, and while Hall was our top offensive force last year, much of our Opening Day starting lineup was injured...or dreaming of riches in Arlington. I know it looks like we're making the Angels much stronger, but imagine our rotation and we would have a better leadoff hitter than Pierre.
  7. Well, from what I've read, Hall isn't a very good defensive CF. And you can always double switch Figgins to 2B/SS/3B/LF and put Jr. Gwynny or Nix in. And I find it hard to believe having the best rotation in the NL would still get us 65 wins. How many do a backup outfielder and backup infielder account for? How many are we going to win with Hall in center as opposed to Clark? I'm just thinking that an upgrade in pitching at the expense of a green CF wouldn't tend to skew the results 25-30 wins.... That's all. And the Angels would have to be drooling to imagine Hall in that lineup, given that they've long needed a complement to Vlad's impaling.
  8. Considering Shouse was put in during save situations last year, I doubt Ned thinks of Shouse as his LOOGY. Thus, we are in need!
  9. I may have set my sights quite high with the mention of Wood, but Hall's value as a 2B/SS who can hit 35HR's...very high. But even if the deal were... Bill Hall Zach Jack Gabe Gross Tony Graffanino for Ervin Santana Chone Figgins Jose Arredondo/Nick Adenhart I'm still ALL OVER IT!
  10. Well Figgins has speed that a select few in the majors can boast. And I would argue that Santana would slot very well behind our big three.
  11. We need quality bullpen arms and he definitely fits the prereq., even though he had a helium-like ERA. And, as alluded to by a previous poster, the signing would allow Ned to ACTUALLY micro-manage, instead of making the faithful believe he is Pete Rose's godson.
  12. I think it is about time we look to trade Hall... Get Wood, as he would be blocked by Hall, a player he basically emulates. Ervin Santana...always a hot trade prospect in these circles. Figgins....a personal favorite and the type of leadoff hitter we are in desperate need of, even though I know he was relegated to #9 status last year. I would argue that he still set their table as their TRUE leadoff hitter (how often to leadoff hitters REALLY lead off??) Hall/CoCo/CV the younger or Zach Jack/Graffy (if he would approve, which I would have to imagine, he would) for Brandon Wood SS Ervin Santana RHP Chone Figgins....you can put it anywhere
  13. Hall for Harden...in a second. Hall is a luxury on this team. Harden is a cornerstone. I remember when Harden was more untouchable than Zito. Well, he still is. Doyle would proclaim it "Doug Melvin Day" if this were to transpire. HARDEN/SHEETS!!! Best 1-2 in the last 5 years.
  14. A bit of postseason glory gets you a contract it seems. I can't wait for the epitome of the gritty battler, David Eckstein to retire...and unretire.
  15. I think Rowand needs to be part of the deal. We need a CF and the fact that he wasn't included in the ChiSox deal makes me think Melvin is the recipient of the Eric Byrnes wannabe. EXTREME CENTERFIELDER!
  16. Imagine pawning off Mench on the Orioles for Lopez, and then Dodgers' Lowe for Jenkins and Rogers (they can wait on the conversion of him, much like they did with Greg Miller). Leaving us to trade our local Cameron Crazy, Cappy, for Baldelli and Dukes.
  17. Actually, tha trade would go a long way toward solving our outfield problem, as Corey Hart would probably become our first baseman. Then we would have Mench/Gross platoon one corner and Jenks in the other. Also, if we offered that much to TB, we could probably get Dukes, which would be quite enticing. That said, I am of the belief that Prince and Rickie are going to go for 400HR's in their careers apiece and I still think there is a flaw in Kazmir that necessitated the trade. His height cannot be THAT BIG a deal!
  18. I don't see why the Rays would want Aquino if they were to get Capellan. As pointed out earlier, at this point, Aquino is just a guy....who once was a closer. He is, for all intents and purposes, Fausto Carmona. That said, I have a hard time believing that, given the price of centerfielders this offseason, Doug Melvin wouldn't put his Herbie Hancock on such a trade, even if you replaced Aquino with a better nugget.
  19. I know he has long held that belief, but why does he believe that? It has always been my belief that AL pitching is better than NL pitching. Also, Manny's antics would be a welcome change in Milwaukee, especially with our no-nonsense manager. I just have this weird inclination he isn't the gritty battler Ned is used to.
  20. Hermanson will get money, probably from NY or BOS, but Riske would be a risk worth taking.
  21. Someone is going to sign him, even if he is offered arbitration. And I would go a little further than firing his agent, as his agent's lack of initiative cost his client a lot. I wonder if it is the same agent as TO had in SF.
  22. I doubt they'd want CoCo with K-Rod closing, though he did set-up work in Texas. But if that deal would happen, I'd be all about it.
  23. I was actually saying that half tongue in cheek. But I do have to admit I have never heard of the griping pertaining to Figgins that I hear about Hall needing a set spot. Honestly, I would give up anyone but Sheets/Weeks/Fielder/Yo/Braun in some capacity for Figgins.
  24. When choosing between the two...or three, you have to remember that Figgins is in his prime and Roberts/Lofton are at a stage in their careers where their main asset, speed, tends to tail off quite quickly. Also of note is that Figgins is as versatile as duct tape and brings a WS ring/attitude. I have long been of the opinion that Figgins should be fitted for his Brewer garb ASAP.
  25. I'd rather trade Hall for McCann and be done with the stress of worrying about my catcher position.
