  1. I would hope that we would spend our #1 on something else so who profiles to be around when we select in the third stanza?
  2. Blanton is beginning to look more like Jason Marquis than Jeremy Bonderman.
  3. I don't think it'd be that far-fetched to believe we can still afford to add him if we subtract even a Brady Clark and Turnbow. Baseball is awash with cash right now. And, as many have said, we would have the deepest rotation we've ever boasted. Capellan would begin to call his time at Miller Park, "Siesta Tiempo." And all would be good. CV-squared fighting it out for the long releiver role. Ned giving Ben the Clemens treatment and not allowing him to long toss until the break. I'm all for the acquisition still. You can never have enough quality pitching...especially when it's healthy quality pitching. Yes, we're looking at you there, Cubby-ville and your hording of a certain Brewer killer named Wade Miller.
  4. Gross may not even be able to cut it in center. Personally, I'd rather put Corey Hart in center if it came to it. Thankfully, I would opine that Nix/Gwynn would be the backup plan if Hall falters. I just think Brady is the most likely to be traded. His price tag isn't as high as Mench/Jenks and he is more of a table setter which is what teams tend to make small trades for.
  5. Pre-draft deals can influence if and when a player is drafted as well. If, say, the Royals, after all their "top of the draft" spending, decide to go the way of Billy Butler or Chris Lubanski, and get a quick deal done beforehand, then one or two teams passing could send Wieters to the Brewers' outstretched arms. A lot can change between now and then too. Last year, Andrew Miller fell to the Tigers. This year...
  6. Hardy also has the added bonus that he is adverse to the K. Bill Hall, on the other hand, should spell his name with K, given that they are synonymous. Now I'm not hating on Hall, as I see him as the Brewer with the most trade value (Sorry Ben, Prince, and Rickie, but I would never trade any of the three). And while I wouldn't argue that Hall has less range than Hardy, I would argue that, as many have opined, "Hardy makes every routine play." Not so much with Hall, who tends to need the spectacular to make the routine.
  7. The problem with THAT lineup is that you have three lefties 3-4-5 which Ned tends to preach against. But you are correct in that Hall for Crawford, if CC can play a good CF, would inject some speed and energy onto the basepaths. Though, my lineup would be.... CF Crawford SS Hardy 2B Weeks 1B Fielder RF Hart LF Jenks/Mench C Estrada/Miller 3B Koskie I don't like having Koskie so low, as he is a less than ideal #8 hitter, but he would be good at clearing the basepaths prior to the dark hole in the order.
  8. I have more doubts about Cano than I do about Hughes, and that's saying something. I just can't see us sending Ben to the hell of NY.
  9. www.athomeplate.com/pitcherprospects07.shtml I've recently been quite curious how people view these four guys. You always hear the debate between Hughes and Bailey, and Pelfrey has just rocketed through the Mets' system. I just am quite excited to see someone say that the best arsenal at present is possessed by our young Brew pup.
  10. I doubt this happens, as it seems like NY fluff to encourage their fans to believe the Rocket is making a NY return. I would put NY third on his list behind Bo-town and Houston. I could even see Arlington being in a better position. And what is up with NY asking for too much? Then again, imagining Fatty Eveland in slimming pinstripes does make me smile.
  11. My purpose wasn't to advocate trading from our depth so much as which pitcher's value to another team is greater than his value to us... Ben Sheets' value to us is too much to quantify with trade value. Dave Bush's value fluctuates a lot but his value to us would probably be greater than what most would give us in trade. CV the Elder is new to our organization and deserves a chance in the keg. Thus, to me, it's Cappy vs. CV the Younger. I was just curious which of the two would seem more expendable to the masses. Obviously, Cappy's value is higher, both to us and others, as he is less than a year removed from all-star status (or perhaps he still is considered an all-star as he has yet to be unthroned in theory). CV the Younger's value to us would seem to be greater than his value to others, in that he ended the year on such a great streak while Cappy's numbers (record) fell off. I guess I'm just trying to convince myself that we're about to get another indirect gift from Richie Sexson.
  12. Well I would hope to see some CV the Younger and ZachJack during the upcoming season, hopefully in sterling fashion.
  13. It would seem that, if CV the Elder were to repeat his performance last year and Big Ben continues to take his Centrums, we should have a dominating rotation. Moreoever, with CV the Younger on the horizon, we seem to have a White Sox problem of sorts. To wit, we also have a outfielder surplus that needs to be rectified. And with pitching at a total premium and our farm producing pitchers like rabbits produce...well you get what I'm saying. We have surplus...pitchers and corners. We need....OBO?? :-)
  14. From what I gathered, Adam Lind was being looked at as a future DH, as his defense is Billy Butler-like. Nevertheless, after this holiday's gift, we are now in a position to package a corner OF (Mench) and/or Hardy, with CV the Younger or Elder, and perhaps reap the rewards of Rios.
  15. If any NY team were to make a prospect proposal worthy of the Brewers' time for Ben Sheets, it would be a Mets proposal of Milledge/Humber/Pelfrey. Then, we're talking. Hughes is a product of the NY hype. Robinson Cano wouldn't have the luxury of A-Rod/Jeter/Giambi/Godzilla/Damon to protect him. No dice.
  16. Brett Sinkbeil?? I remember thinking the Brew Crew might take him with their second pick in last year's draft. But if we were to acquire him, wouldn't he be privy to the rule that you can't trade a player until a year after their signing? Thus...it'd be a PTBNL. And Yusmeiro doesn't really strike me as a vital addition to our farm. How does he compare to Humberto Sanchez, who the Brewers didn't seem altogether interested in?
  17. Guillermo Quiroz. He of the collapsed lung and the teammate of Richie Sexson. As for Rios, is his value truly that high, that it would take Hardy++ to get him??? I find it hard to believe that the Jays wouldn't jump over ANY deal for Hardy to be their starting SS, Glaus at the hot corner, Lyle at 1B and Hill at 2B or whichever prospect du joir is anointed the Jesus Christ of the leaf. That has to appeal to Canadiens fans.
  18. Who was that catcher much of this board continued to throw out there in proposals? Some power hitting backstop... Joel Hanrahan and Edwin Jackson, anyone? ANYONE?
  19. I think many are overvaluing a good couple months from Rios. He may have been a hot name through the first couple months of the season, but the same could be said about Mench. Their career numbers don't suggest better value, and we are also giving up a shortstop who has produced well at a young age and is still filling out his frame. With some projection, JJ could produce almost the same type of production Rios could conceivably attain, though slightly less power. And I truly believe that the Blue Jays have soured on League, which is why I could see him being jettisoned with Rios. McGowan has always been of interest, since he was initially mentioned in the Overbay discussions. In the end, I am quite happy with our return, but I can't help but want the one that got away.
  20. What about Claudio Vargas if we sign Soup Can? CV the Elder would become somewhat expendable then and it would even out the apparent lack of value in our offer. Honestly, I think many are undervaluing Hardy, as when he has been healthy, he has been very good. How about an expansion to.... Hardy Mench CV the Elder for McGowan Rios Brandon League (He could become a very dominating reliever...or completely blow up. But it would be a worthwhile flier and he needs a change of venue)
  21. Hardy SS Mench LF for Rios CF McGowan RP-his numbers were stellar two seasons ago and you know Gord Ash and Doug Melvin are interested after last offseason....
  22. The trade would look a lot better if it were LaRoche AND Marcus Giles for Brian Roberts. I'm just saying, Mark Loretta doesn't need to be involved if this trade goes down a week ago... Then again, when it comes to Peter Angelos, the Al Davis of the East Coast, nothing can be counted on as being normal.
  23. Charlie V and the Aussie, the new reality TV show of Milwaukee Public TV. Half the fun would be figuring out which duo it stars. One the one hand, it could be about all the exploits of hopping between Nashville and Milwaukee. One the other hand, it could be two abnormally tall gents going around keeping little five year olds from enjoying a shortened game of basketball. Seriously, when are we going to see this? I get the feeling I'm the only one who finds the commercial funny...and sick. I just keep hoping for the little kid to sock the hairless wonder down under.
  24. I was, at first, quite excited to see our interest in Suppan, much like I was interested when we were supposedly eyeing Wade Miller when he was available. Brewer killers tend to have inflated values when it comes to Brewer fans, as you have to respect your vanquisher. But the more I think about his inflated price tag, the more I have second thoughts. I'm sure with our chips and nuggets, we could put that excess payroll to better use more towards the deadline when teams make their rentals available. Andruw Jones would be an obvious target but there is much more to bid on. Right now, I feel like I have a gift certificate to a store with very little left on the shelves because it's going out of business. The point being, with all our cronies spending, it seems Melvin feels obligated to show off his credit rating.
  25. It wasn't near as big of a laughing stock as the Esteban Loaiza award. And the only reason it is looked at with such disdain is because, in retrospect, it would have been perfect to crown this year's triple crown winner with the crown tri-fold. In regards to Chone Figgins, if we were to obtain him, the key piece would obviously be Bill Hall. The Angels also have pitching to deal and I'm not that enarmoed with a Lackey or a flashy dream Weaver. Kelvim Escobar isn't bad, but underwhelming. And Bartolo, when healthy, is dominating, as evidenced by his Cy. I would argue that, if he were healthy, there would be no Windy City magic.
