  1. Henry Blanco got a two year, $5.25mil contract. What is Zaun expecting? I'd rather invest in the bullpen than a position where a marginal upgrade costs us $3+mil as opposed to a very good addition in an area of weakness.
  2. Jr. Gwynny would be a good throw-in as his father is a legend in SoCal and he played his college ball there. I would love to pick up Chone, but I think his legend-status for the Angels trumps his trade value.
  3. I don't see Garcia leaving Chicago, as he is the son-in-law of their hallowed leader, Hitler the Venezuelan shortstop.
  4. I would be all for the addition of Crisp, especially given the trends on the free agent market. That said, I can only imagine what Theo Epstein would want, considering he always has his hand on the pulse of the market. As for those who point out that Crisp's price was Marte, need I remind everyone that it was a different Crisp than the one waiting for his walking papers from Bo-town. One was an up-and-comer while the one stationed in the land of Independence is a reclamation project, in need of a change of venue. Usually, these deals are reclamation project for reclamation project...Jenkins anyone?
  5. As Biggie Smalls once opined, "Mo Money, Mo Problems."
  6. Perhaps we could get them to toss in Matt Thornton. As I have said many times, the lefty has smoke! However, that would probably be a long shot. Also, the White Sox are now being linked to the Rangers, which means the Yankees are now getting involved in the raid on ChiSox pitching.
  7. It is a good amount to give up, but given the value of centerfielders on the open market, you are forced to overpay on the trade market for said merchandise. Also, as I originally stated, McGowan was relegated to untouchable for us last year, and would be the ideal nugget for a one year rental, if it does indeed turn out to be that. And I would have to honestly say that I would trade Hardy for an exponential increase in odds to make and run in the postseason next year.
  8. I would compare Beltre to Ensberg...but I'd take Ensberg everyday. That said, I'd stick with Koskie until it becomes evident that the minors can no longer suppress Braun, which is looking more and more like it will be soon.
  9. We could also go with Rick Helling or Dana Eveland, who I am definitely enamored with. And the trade would also allow us to pursue Greg Maddux, who has long had interest in joining his brother.
  10. I'll agree that it would seem the ChiSox are getting the best end of this deal, but I would definitely take Vasquez over Doug Davis. And furthermore, the trade would make the most sense with them keeping Brian Anderson, complementing his defensive skills and lack of bat with Manny's "Manny being Manny" and offensive prowess. There could be a minor nugget coming our way from Chicago, but I would take the deal the way I drew it up.
  11. We would have him for at least a year, and with him in the middle of the lineup, we would have a virtual murderers' row of power. 2B Weeks 3B Koskie CF Wells 1B Prince SS Hall RF Jenkins LF Hart C Miller P Sheets/Cappy/Bush/Zach Jack/Villy
  12. Honestly, I would say, given the way Prince moved last year, I could imagine Prince being an average left fielder, defensively. That said, Prince, as a low-A prospect, unseated Sexson atop the Brewers' first base depth chart. Prince the MLer isn't going to be taken off the busy corner anytime soon.
  13. With Boston's Manny Ramirez recently being shopped, and reports that the White Sox would be willing to ship two of their pitchers, I was thinking... Boston receives: 3B Fields/OF Jenkins/RHP Contreras Milwaukee receives: RHP Vasquez ChiSox receive: LHP D. Davis/M. Ramirez For all intents and purposes, the money would actually equal out, with the Brewers upgrading their rotation, the Red Sox have Manny's contract off the books which helps a great deal with their recent bid on Matsuzaka and their ongoing negotiations. They also get a very good, ML ready 3B prospect and a very good pitcher signed for as long as ManRam. The ChiSox...well they get one of the best hitters in the league, and can boast a hitters' row of Thome/ManRam/Konerko/Dye. Also, their rotation would be quite formidable, despite their immense losses of two top-o-the-day aces, with the addition of Doug Davis. Obviously, I have only heard of rumors of each team's individual necessity to move these players, and none of them are recently linked, but I would have to say this makes sense. Anyone else?
  14. The guy definitely has a very good amount of value, probably too much, but I would love to see him obliterate the Cubs, especially with Bartman in the stands at Miller Park.
  15. I totally have to think that, if he just puts up halfway decent numbers and doesn't get injured, he'll get a very comparable contract in two years to what he originally got from the Dodgers!
  16. I believe there was a confirmed rumor of Humberto Sanchez's availability in return for C. Lee and we turned them down. I can't imagine the Brewers would want him now, especially considering the effect of being traded twice in an offseason on a young man's psyche. Go ask Andy Marte.
  17. With the Florida Marlins attempting to procure a long term fixture in center, could the Brewers have an easier time trading for Hermida than Lastings? I have heard of nothing of his availability, and perhaps they intend to put him in a corner, but my understanding was that he was a CF.
  18. Hardy/Davis/Villy for McGowan and Wells? Anyone? That would help both teams. I mean, the Blue Jays were starting Ty Taubenheim last year! Villy would be the perfect 6th man for them that he would be for us and Davis fills Lilly's spot in their rotation. Perhaps he just missed his friend, Lyle. And Hardy...if healthy, looks to truly show off his skills as the epitome of a #2. And for Melvin, it gets him his former #1 that was "untouchable" as of this time last season with a year's rental, at least, of a top five CF.
  19. I would have to imagine that Hurricane/Brady/Zach Jack would have to interest them a bit. If that were to go down, I would then flip Cappy for CC/Rocco and then sit back and watch every baseball publication crown us the WS champs.
  20. I would be willing to ship Cappy for Baldelli/Crawford, actually. We have a lot of pitching coming in and Cappy did fall off a bit over the second half.
  21. I could see a few scenarios that could see him traded, even if he is playing well, the most likely being Jr. Gwynny or Weeks supplanting him with Hart and Braun/Hall in the corners.
  22. My only question is what it would cost in trade, as the Sox gave up Chris Young to get the guy. I wouldn't want to tap into our top three (Yo/Braun (who would have no value to them)/Inman) but I don't think Mark Rogers would excite them. Hardy for Vasquez and Thornton? I've been a fan of the big lefty for awhile.
  23. Schmidt- 15 mil SEA Zito- 16.5 mil NYY Lilly- 7.5 mil TEX Mulder- 8.5 mil STL Molina- 5.5 mil SD Roberts- 3.75 mil MIL Soriano- 15.5 mil LAD Pierre- 7 mil LAA Nomar- 10 mil BOS Lugo- 8.5 mil BOS Drew- 14 mil CHC Huff- 5.75 mil DET Suppan- 7 mil NYM Meche- 6 mil SD C. Lee- 14.5 mil HOU
  24. Alex Gordon was the BA Minor League Player of the Year, and was roundly hailed as the greatest offensive force in that draft. The gent has only further proven that he can handle 3B defensively and his power trumps Zimmerman. If I had to rank them, I would say... 1. Gordon 3B/1B (as Zimmerman and Teahan both are being credited with moving the shiny wooden bat) 2. Zimmerman 3B (Advanced approach, but I don't think he is going to be anything more than what he is right now, and he could simply regress with no Soriano to intimidate 3. Braun 3B (His bat could dwarf both in front of him, but only if his defense continues to progress) 4. Pelfrey SP (He has already pitched in the majors) 5. Jay Bruce CF (Has converted his great tools to even greater results, making those who passed on him sick with angst, much like the other top prospect in his organization) 6. Hochevar SP (Was considered to be better than Pelfrey by many, and has a better arsenal) 7. Maybin RF (Has truly taken to the wood and has showcased his almost unmatched tools) 8. Upton SS/CF (Considering his new position, you can't blame him for not dominating, but given his draft position and peers, much more is expected) 9. Matt Garza SP (Has pitched in the majors and, at times, got great results. That said, he doesn't have the power arsenal of his two counterparts) 10. Clement C (I am of the opinion that he is going to be a top-five catcher in five years, flashing Piazza power. That said, he needs to stay healthy and actually showcase the bat that made him a household name in SoCal in college)
  25. Roberts, given his age, will soon be relegated to left, I would opine. Also, I could see him becoming a Brady Clark-type 4th in the near future. And it's not as if Roberts would have no trade value at the deadline.
