  1. Wonder if that's messing with his power stroke. He'd been racking up singles and multi-hit games... I've had back trouble all my life and, with the caveat that not everyone experiences pain in the same way, if Yelich's back pain was serious enough to limit his HR power he wouldn't be swinging the bat at all. He's hit the ball plenty hard enough leading up to today, I'd say it's low percentage that's been a factor in his slugging potential so far.
  2. Back soreness for Yelich. He does have a history of back issues flaring up on him.
  3. Nothing yet, my first thought was he could be getting the rest of the day off due to the lead. Let's hope that's all it is and that it wasn't premature. While I’d love for that to be the case, that would be a pretty gutsy move to make in the 2nd inning and Brett Anderson on the mound. I'm probably in denial. 2nd inning is a little early for that kind of move.

  5. JBJ's at bat against Wainwright was disappointing. A lot of his curveballs are not strikes and he was hacking at everything. It's frustrating watching Wainwright get out of these innings so far with only 1 run scored and that on 2 errors. They need to hang a big inning on him or I feel like they'll regret it.
  6. Mustaches on Yankees players was pretty common back in the day. To this day Reggie Jackson looks odd to me without one. Don Mattingly had a nice stache as well. Billy Martin. The mustache only style just isn't as common today as it was back then, maybe it will make a comeback.
  7. We all said the same last year....and it ended up sucking pretty bad all year. Hopefully this year is not a repeat of that. Current Brewers that were on the roster last year with over 100 ABs: Hiura (217 ABs) Yelich (200) Garcia (181) Urias (109) Narvaez (108) That's it. After Narvaez's 108 ABs the next highest guy is Vogelbach at 58 and he only played 1/3 of the season's games (19) with the Brewers. It really can't be stressed enough how different this year's roster is from last season. Plus, for the most part, aren't we expecting each of the 5 above players to do better than last year? It's a pretty low bar even for the most pessimistic Brewers fan. Outside of Yelich at a .786 OPS the other 4 were .700 or below. Even Urias at .600 and Narvaez at .560, I can't really imagine they repeat such bad numbers. Anyway, my main point is if they struggle like last year it's going to be a really grim season of baseball.
  8. I will apologize for the way I framed that last sentence, the tone wasn't necessary. I'm sarcastic by nature but that's my own problem. I do stand by my opinion that it's an overreaction to think that Yelich is on a path to long term underperformance based on 5 games and a slower start to the new season. That's all. History shows it's natural for baseball players and teams to sputter from time to time and 5 games is not a very long time even for bad streaks. Statistics are listed as averages for a reason. Talking about $200 million contracts and justifying it, to me, is a complete non-issue at this point in time. Even if he only performs at pre-2018 levels as you suggest the Brewers knew that was possible when they extended his contract.
  9. Seems like they are also implying that the "in person" sausage races will be back as well?
  10. Could it be that Yelich is simply off to a slow start just like 98% of the Brewers offense? Narvaez and Shaw are really the only two regulars doing well and even between those two, Narvaez is the only guy clearly en fuego. Shaw is getting a boost in our minds because of two timely, extra base hits, both of which nearly single handedly won games. In reality Shaw has "only" 3 hits and 1 walk but also has only started 3 of the 5 games so far with one pinch hitting appearance. Between Narvaez and Shaw they've accounted for 11 RBI of the 15 total team runs scored. So those two are tier 1, then there's a bit of a gap to tier 2. Yelich is right there at the top and I'd put Wong in there too. Yelich has scored 4 runs, has 4 hits (all singles), 2 walks and 1 HBP. Wong has scored 2 runs, has 2 hits (singles), 4 walks and 2 HBP. I'll wager most of you haven't felt like Wong is one of the poor performers on the team, in fact the only comments I can anecdotally recall are ones that praise him. I agree, he's been better than most other guys on the team and Yelich is right there with him except he's a notch better. Yelich is a lightning rod for criticism right now because he's former MVP Christian Yelich. And he struggled over the course of 60 games that comprised the baseball season in 2020 so everyone is anxious for evidence that it's not going to happen again. That's it. Otherwise, in more normal light, he's simply another member of this team that has struggled a bit with the bat to begin the season. Outside of 2 other players he's still the best performer on this team. Carry on with the overreactions.
  11. Sorry, didn't mean to say you did, I meant that more broadly across the fan base. Also ST has to be taken with a grain of salt, absolutely. I was just searching around for a game log for his ST stats and it should be pointed out in fairness that he had a lot of games with only 2 or maybe 3 ABs and only 14 games. So even though it felt more like a normal spring training this season it still wasn't, no split squads to give guys more at bats and because of that having to fit everyone else in with more limited at bats than usual. So I'll concede Yelich's OPS might not be the greatest snapshot.
  12. Considering I can find a 4 game stretch similar to the one he just had smack dab in the middle of his MVP 2018 season, while he had been scorching hot in August mind you, I don't think there's enough evidence to proclaim him "most definitely not fine" quite yet. I’d agree with this if my eyes didn’t see what they did in 2020. Recency bias which is understandable. I agree the 9 strikeouts against 1 walk is concerning. He OPS'd 1.300 in spring training. Yes it's only spring training but I thought he looked in pretty good shape hitting wise then. I'd like to see more than 4 or 5 games before I get out my sky is falling umbrella. Oh I wanted to add he's hit in 3 of the 5 games including tonight and he had that hard hit ball a few games back everyone thought was gone off the bat but was caught. Hiura being hitless is much more valid a concern IMO.

  14. I have Uverse and haven't been able to get it. I just thought they shut the app down when the name switched to Bally. The irony is I just tried it with my AT&T TV login and it worked, odd how one AT&T service is different from another in that respect.
  15. Which proves what an utterly asinine "rule" it is. To pass on an opportunity to improve the club over some guy's hair preferences. I can't believe Yankees fans defend it when it periodically becomes an issue.
  16. I mentioned this in the Sinclair thread, last night I started the game being able to watch on the app, but later on the app became useless and it still is for me. I just knew today would be the day for offense because of that. Seems like it's nation wide. If it's only because of the rebranding that's lame, it's still Sinclair and no matter the name of the app it should still function the same as usual until the new app is ready IMO.
  17. Moneywise I'd think the Brewers probably saved around $1 million in salary, possibly more, due to this trade. Arcia had a $2 million contract and all I can find on Sobotka is in 2019 he had a $565k salary and Weigel's salary is unknown. Weigel has only appeared in 1 career MLB game where he pitched 2/3 of an inning.
  18. I listened to an interview with a Rockies beat reporter (Nick Groke), and he talked about how the Rockies don’t act in-line with what’s generally considered rational by the consensus. He said after taking an absolute beating over the Arenado trade (in which case Nolan was requesting to be traded), he doesn’t think the owner, Dick Monfort (who he said fancies himself a GM), would be willing to trade Story even if it’s the obviously smart thing to do for the franchise. He was of the opinion it would need to be an extreme overpay in order for the Rockies not to just ride with Story right until the bitter end. Groke also said the Rockies don’t typically make many trades. The Brewers and Rockies haven’t made a trade together since 2004. So pretty much how the Brewers were run from the time Bud became commish and Attanasio bought the team? When Wendy was running the franchise. That was miserable...I feel for Rockies fans. Does anyone else still get shivers whenever Wendy is mentioned? It's like I can hear her voice in my head still. It is not a pleasant sensation.
  19. From the blurb I had read about the Denver selection is they were due to get an AS game in the near future and had already been making preliminary preparations for it. So from that standpoint it made sense. Here's the actual blurb from mlb.com: MLB chose the Rockies because they were already in the bidding process to host a future All-Star Game. The Rockies had supplied a detailed plan for hotel, event space and security that took months to assemble, and MLB staff had already made several site visits to Denver. In addition, Governor Jared Polis and Mayor Michael Hancock have both committed to provide the necessary facilities and services needed to support this year’s festivities.
