  1. Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal #DBacks getting Luke Weaver, Carson Kelly, Andy Young and a draft pick from #STLCards for Goldschmidt, sources tell The Athletic. St. Louis Cardinals @Cardinals The #STLCards have acquired six-time NL All-Star 1B Paul Goldschmidt from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for C Carson Kelly, RHP Luke Weaver, INF Andy Young and the club's Compensation Round B selection in the 2019 MLB Draft. #TimeToFly
  2. The image of a scion of Vince Lombardi, hoisting the Lombardi trophy in celebration of a Green Bay Packers Super Bowl victory is a really pleasant image indeed.
  3. I'm in this boat also, if it works out that Pettine sticks around all the better but I'm not going to worry too much about it if he's let go. Honestly, him leaving could just as easily be his preference with a turnover in the coaching staff, maybe he would rather see what's out there after a successful return to the league as DC.
  4. I am done being a Packer fan if we hire McDaniels. After he hung the Colts high and dry (as well as the staff he hired) he doesn't belong getting any interviews anywhere IMO. A sure sign of immaturity. Agreed. I'll give McDaniels a pass for Denver - plenty of great HC's failed at their first shot at HC, including Belichek. I won't give McDaniels a pass for Indy. And I sure as hell don't trust McDaniels to stay here when Belichek decides to retire. For all we know, Kraft promised McDaniels the HC job in NE when Belichek retires and that's why he bailed on Indy. My definition of integrity is "you do what you say you are going to do". McDaniels has no integrity as far as I'm concerned, and that's the last thing I want in a HC. Belichick did the same thing to the Jets. He's now the most respected coach in the game. He may not be the most liked but even those that don't like him respect him. McDaniels going back to NE post Belichick, post Brady... I don't know, I'd assume he'd have to be offered a ton of money and the dual role Belichick has now, GM and coach. We know he's not getting that in Green Bay, at least not right away and likely not ever. That's the risk I guess. Holmgren left for that reason, do we hate him? How much longer is Kraft even going to be an effective owner? He's 77. Those guys are all aging. What's the alure 3 years from now in NE that's going to trump a hopefully much improved Packers team? Otherwise I don't have much concern about him. He's made his one big character mistake with the Indy fiasco, if he does something like that again, that's it for him. Career suicide, he'd be committed to NE then and would have next to zero leverage for pay raises. I choose to believe McDaniels is intelligent enough to understand this. I understand simply not liking the guy, that's fair. The only question I'm concerned with is can he be a good coach in Green Bay, and I believe he can.
  5. I'm wary of college hires. Maybe if this franchise were on the edge of a true reboot I'd be ok with giving one a try, but with Rodgers here it's not my preference. Not saying it can't work though. I like McDaniels. He has some prior HC experience and while he wasn't successful with Denver not all guys are their 1st time. Belichick himself is one. There is some thought out there that coaching Rodgers could be an intimidating challenge for the next coach. I think McDaniels would be up to the task. Being able to say he coached Tom Brady (McDaniels is listed as the OC & QBs coach for the Patriots) is a nice thing to have on his resume. Everyone knows Brady can get a little fiery when he thinks things aren't going the way they should be. We also know he is an OC that calls his own plays and runs his own offense and has won Super Bowls doing so.
  6. When the news came down I actually felt MM getting let go mid season was a good thing for him as well. He can step back and recharge a bit and I think he'll have a few suitors for his services very soon. I think Cleveland was one of the rumored teams interested in him.
  7. But you didn't like when Stearns admitted he made a mistake with Schoop. Which way do you want it? Edit: To be clear my intention isn't to be disrespectful, you're allowed your opinion, I just found the contrast curious. Calling out one single player is petty as a GM of a ball team. It was unnecessary as I’ve stated in the other thread. The front office has never admitted their mistakes, especially with Thompson. Instead they’re pushing him to the GB HOF as the team he put together absolutely stinks. Been three SB winning coaches in Packers history and only one of them gets treated like trash. I'm not sure that last part is fair, I remember a lot of people weren't happy with the way Holmgren left Green Bay. I think McCarthy is worthy of reaspect and I don't see this as the FO treating him like trash but I agree with firing him. This is the life of a football coach, getting fired is a near certainty.
  8. Murphy made the decision. I hope he puts the power for football decisions back in the GM's control.

  10. Plus, there are plenty of other 2B's available in the FA market that are worth multi-year deals. I'm not sure how team/player options work for arbitration players but I could see the Brewers or some other team offering him a 2 year deal with a team or even mutual option for the 2nd year.
  11. It was also available on Amazon Prime Video. I believe all Thursday night games on the Fox schedule are also streamed on Amazon Prime.
  12. I've been thinking a lot about Josh McDaniels too, ever since the Patriots game a few weeks ago. I admired that they weren't afraid to run some innovated plays on offense. Frankly, he made McCarthy look stale in comparison. There are already rumblings in the media about him being a candidate Green Bay is targeting. I don't think he'd waffle about coming to Green Bay like he did Indianapolis. The Packers HC job has to be seen as one of the best jobs in the sport.
  13. I don't think Rodgers should be free from criticism. Overall the issues feel, not unimportant, but like things that he can easily make up for when things are going right. But sure, things like taking too many sacks, skewing towards pass in RPO, focusing too long on trying to get the ball down field instead of taking the shorter play and sometimes trying to be too cute with some targeted passes to make them hard to intercept but also making them more difficult to complete. The ball he bounced at the receivers feet on 3rd down right before McCarthy chose to punt in their last possession sticks in my head. Not that it happened but that it's familiar, I've seen him bouncing what seem like easily completed passes before and I feel it's been happening once or twice a game for several weeks now. Is he just missing the throw or is he trying to throw one of those targeted "safe" passes? Maybe I'm wrong or making it bigger than it is but the point is I've been noticing these ankle level passes especially the last 3 or more games. It's part of what I yell at my TV when I get frustrated. I still think he's an amazing QB, his demeanor on the field doesn't really bother me, probably because I feel frustrated too. Maybe it is a little much for him to show so much negative emotion. I have no doubt that he cares very much about winning football games.
  14. Does nobody remember that Machado was hit by a pitch the next game? Or was that not good enough because it clearly wasn't intentional? I kinda liked it, he got plunked without all the ejections and drama that usually come with it. I think it's silly to want to throw at him (again) for it. It's over, he's still a dirt bag and always will be. What he did to Aguilar wasn't as bad as what he did to Pedroia last season and I remember most posters on here were very willing to accept Machado as part of this team if Stearns managed to trade for him, myself included. So I'm good with just booing the guy every time he makes an appearance at Miller Park going forward.
  15. It's fun how if he doesn't bat 1.000 he's useless. Just disregard the RBI double he hit earlier in the game. By the way, he has now hit in 7 straight games that he's started (0 for 3 as a pinch hitter).
  16. He has. I don't think it's too much to be concerned over just the nature of a hot streak, eventually you cool off. He's still getting some hits, just not as many as before and he seems to be striking out a little more frequently than normal.
  17. I'm in the same boat as you, I'm assuming it's one of those classic seeing eye grounder, bloop hit Chinese water torture type of innings.
  18. That's all? You watch everything else? Impressive. Thanks for sharing. Personally I don't watch hockey, golf, dog shows, lacrosse, ultimate frisbee and numerous other things I'm probably not even aware of. It would be exhausting if I had to share that information constantly to all the people I meet. Kudos for keeping on top of that with your disinterest in the NFL, that's some real dedication right there. I bet you are a blast at parties... People still have parties? Dead to me...

  20. He has a 6 game hitting streak in games he has started. Could be worse. Could also be better, still waiting for his first multi-hit game and first HR. Baby steps.
  21. Personality helps and it can take a while to get a following. Some people make up to a couple $100k a year. Ninja is reportedly making $500k a month. He's definitely an exception but the dude is on fire right now and has been for around a year riding the Fortnite popularity wave. Honestly, type ninja in google. He's the first thing that comes up, the guy has hijacked the word. If you want to learn about actual ninjas you have to type in more keywords to get the information you want. Crazy.
  22. We should definitely trade Hader after the season then, right? Or could it be that while a guy is having a great season it's super easy to imagine that guy continuing to have great seasons? What are the differences between a guy like Derrick Turnbow and a Craig Kimbrel? And don't look now but Kimbrel is going through some issues right now himself. It's amazing how human a closer can be but because he's a closer everyone expects near perfection every single outing. I'm not saying this to excuse Knebel, he's clearly been on a noticeable downturn since early to mid July, but he was being regularly criticized on this board even before July and he was having pretty consistent success back then.
  23. Good, it's played out. Clearly it isn't. The era of baseball you seem to be stuck in is dead.
  24. This has got to be the straw that broke the camel's last remaining vertebra regarding Knebel.
