  1. I don't think Stearns will ever make a move like this because pitchers can vary so much from year to year. He isn't one to take a risk like this. I see him working in the Dallas Keuchel region of 3 yrs $60m or so. Whether that is enough to land him I do not know, but I feel like that is the ceiling. Then a smaller deal for someone like Lyles and you have a solid rotation of something like: Woodruff Keuchel Lyles Hauser Lauer
  2. You must not have seen the Justin Grimm signing.
  3. The big splash we were all waiting for! Can everyone calm down now?
  4. I need to just limit myself to brewerfan.net for Brewers takes. Too many idiots on Twitter I cannot take it anymore.
  5. Stearns has preached depth since day 1 of becoming our GM. Since the Brewers do not have much minor league talent and we still have 9 spots to fill on the 40 man roster, I think we will see a lot of mid to low tier signings just for depth. We might bring in one bigger free agent but the majority is going to be depth. If I were a betting man, my money would be on Donaldson or Rendon. Yes, they will be expensive and I think Rendon for sure will sign a $200+ million contract, but hitters are more of a sure thing than pitchers and Stearns will want to limit the downside if he is giving out that kind of money.
  6. I have been thinking of this as well. What players out there would be potential targets in trades where we would take on a large salary? I have seen Mookie Betts and Francisco Lindor being thrown around in rumors. Any others?
  7. Everyone is mentioning Claudio but to me this was a no-brainer with the new three batter minimum in 2020
  8. I am fine with these non-tenders. Time for Stearns to get to work!
  9. Jay Jackson gone. I saw some people indicate he could have been a piece in 2020. No longer.
  10. He was just non-tendered by the Twins and he put up some impressive splits vs LHP .326./.385/.636 in 143 PAs At worst he would be a great platoon option.
  11. Do you really think Howie Kendrick comes to MKE for 1 yr/ $5M when other teams (like Washington) could offer him the same or a little more?? I think he will go to whoever offers him the most money. That's what I think.
  12. I agree its going to be a lot of money for a 35 year old second baseman and I am glad the Brewers didn't go there...but I'm all for giving a one or two year contract to a 36 year old Howie Kendrick...$5m per?
  13. Exactly. For a second I thought that we could sign Donaldson after seeing the Moose news but he should command a lot more per year. He is 33 so idk if teams will go 4 years.
  14. I am really surprised nobody is mentioning Dallas Keuchel here. He has been such a good pitcher his entire career and it feels like he is flying under the radar with the marquee free agent pitchers on the market this year. He just seems like a Stearns signing. Tons of ground balls, uses the cutter often, and limits the HR ball.
  15. With all the rumblings about Lindor being traded (which I still don't think will happen) what if they use the new acquisition of Urias to build a package for Lindor? Cleveland would want a young, highly touted prospect to potentially replace Lindor. MKE gets Francisco Lindor CLE gets Luis Urias, Brice Turang, Aaron Ashby, and Corbin Burnes.
  16. Crazy thought: What if they use Urias to build a package for Francisco Lindor? Cleveland would want a young controllable shortstop to replace Lindor and Urias is a risk, but definitely the high upside asset they would be looking for.
  17. Can you send the link? I'm interested in how this is calculated.
  18. Love the enthusiasm but we saved $7 million, not $60 million. Right, everyone should get it out of their heads that we will sign Cole, Strasburg, Rendon, and probably Wheeler. Although with the additional savings they are about $50-$60m less than where they were last year in terms of payroll? That is assuming Mark increases payroll a little bit.
  19. He can, but he won't. This has to be part of a larger play. You cannot have Arcia and Urias starting on the same infield.
  20. Gotta be part of a larger plan. Will Stearns really enter the year with an unproven player like Urias as a starter? Or maybe he works as a UTL until he finds his footing in the MLB? I do see Arcia as expendable after this though.
  21. Just because the Brewers declined his option doesn't mean he won't be back. He was due $7.5 million and maybe they felt he wasn't worth that. They could still bring him back at a lower AAV.
  22. Don’t forget Chacin, Moose, Perez, Jeffress, and Albers as well. They have a lot to play with. I am guessing they will make an upgrade at SS for sure since there will be a big downgrade at C. Maybe instead of neglecting the starting staff and going with a bunch of bats like the last couple years, we bring in a couple arms like Wheeler and Strasburg and go with a mediocre offense and hope for progression from internal options offensively! (Half blue) How great would that be?! In reality I would like to see them go after a guy like Dallas Keuchel. He seems like a Stearns fit and he wont command top tier money like Cole and Strasburg.
  23. It's November 21st.
  24. With Thames, Anderson, and now Grandal off the books they are about $33 million less in obligations than they were last year...Yes, guys are do for raises but I still expect Mark to increase the payroll from where we were at last year. $33 million is a lot of money to play with and I don't think you can go into the year with Pina as your primary catcher. A guy like d'Arnaud intrigues me but you can bet there will be a few upgrades Stearns has up his sleeve.
