  1. If I had to venture a guess I would say we traded Mitchell, Ashby, Payton Henry +
  2. Sean Murphy, YOU are a Milwaukee Brewer!
  3. This is nuts. He turns 40 next year. Seeing contracts like this gives me no confidence that the Brewers could sign Woodruff or Burnes long term unless they were willing to take a significant discount. Can you imagine what Burnes would fetch on the open market if he were a FA this year?
  4. Arraez seems like a quintessential Brewers player. Versatility, control, and great bat to ball skills. Would give a lot of flexibility in the infield with Arraez, Urias, Turang. I wonder if an Eric Lauer would do it? View full rumor

  7. Frelick may not have the power of Weimer but his skill set translates the best to the MLB level. You can develop power but its much more difficult to develop contact and plate discipline.
  8. I'm not sure you can say that authoritatively. They freed up 9-10 million (again pending a closer look on my end on the deferrals), which is basically what got them Wong last year, who WAS an impact player. More from Stearns: "There are some funds now that are freed up. (Owner) Mark (Attanasio) and the rest of our ownership group have been consistent and supportive if there's an opportunity that makes sense, we're free to discuss them and pursue them." Another impact bat to the middle of this lineup and things are looking great.
  9. The big thing we should add is: - Full seasons from Adamas, Wong, Tellez, Cain. - Rebound from Yelich. Agreed! I’ll take 75% of MVP Yelich, he and Brewers need to figure out what is wrong with him. Give me .280-.290, 30 HR, 90-100 RBI Yelich and we’ll be fine. Hell, I will take .270, 20 HR, 70 RBI if he can get on base at a .370+ clip
  10. The Yankees just released Clint Frazier and he is now a free agent. What do you think about the Brewers taking a chance on him? I would love to see it. Former first round pick, still only 26 and has had success at the major league level. Career line of .239/.327/.434 but in 2020 slashed to an OPS of .905. Worth a shot?
  11. A little late here but I love the move. Ever since Stearns has taken over he has improved the team on the margins and I think that is a key to their success. Its a long season and there will be injuries and poor performances, so even improving that 25th man has dividends in the long run.
  12. As an initial matter, the Brewers probably shouldn't be looking to sign 30 year old sluggers to long term deals for an AAV of 18 or higher. With regard to Castellanos specifically, he had a .700 slugging percentage at GABP, and hit 23 of his 34 homeruns there in 2021. He's simply a monster in that ballpark but less so at PNC (.473 slugging) Busch (.349 SLG) and he's not the type of defender the Brewers usually look for. I'd be happy for him to go chase dollars somewhere else. He has a career SLG% of .561 at Miller/AmFam in over 100 PAs. Also, if the DH comes to the NL then I don't think defense or versatility matters as much. You need an impact bat at the DH spot. Can't be relying on the Rowdy Tellez or mid .700 OPS types in that spot unless its for breaks in the field.
  13. Yeah, I think he understands the limits of the offense. He made the big offer for Bryan Reynolds at the deadline so he recognizes the offense needs help. The last month and the playoffs should cement that into his mind for the offseason.
  14. I don't think our salary constraints are as bad as people think. Cain and JBJ are only under contract one more year and that will clear $30m from the payroll in 2023. There will be arbitration raises between now and then but they could backload a deal.
  15. Probably something that includes a Ashby/Small and Mitchell/Frelick.
  16. There are usually no bad ideas, but this is a bad idea. He has basically had one season worth of bad play with the Brewers (722 ABs in 2020 and 2021, he had 695 ABs his last year in Miami). Trading $10M Hader who was elite, for $16M Kimbrel who was garbage is bad. $18M for Keuchel who wouldnt even make our rotation? Woodruff, Burnes, Peralta, Lauer, Houser, Ashby all better options who are probably making a combined $18M. I'd much rather take the $26M risk that Yelich regains form.
  17. Bryant does have versatility to play any position which Stearns values...
  18. Please list those "several" players that you would trust with closing duties... Yeah not sure there are any. Cousins was good but you can't really throw him into a closers role. Curious to see what their plan is with Ashby. I know they have said they still view him as a starter but with Woodruff, Burnes, Peralta, Lauer, Houser and possibly Ethan Small there are a lot of starters there. I wouldn't hate putting Ashby in that 2018 Hader role...
  19. Cain spent a lot of time on the Injured List in 2021, but when he played he was fine. The Brewers don’t really have a history of paying players to compete against them, and Cain isn’t a total black hole of a player where they should seriously consider it. Rather, like they did with Braun, they should work even harder at keeping Cain healthy in 2022. Definitely. He had a rough first half but a lot of that was due to injury. His second half numbers, especially September, were very good. With his defense and leadership he is an asset. DH should help keep guys a bit more fresh too.
  20. Okay lets pump the brakes a bit... IF....IFFFF....Yelich is this bad forever and never really becomes a mid .800 OPS player again I don't think this is that insane of a take. I could see 9 years of depressing agony having to watch Yelich outweighing two good years. I certainly wouldn't look back and think "I am so glad we made that trade still." Well, sure but its a little premature for that. I still can't accept that this is just the hitter he is now. He had two amazing years, a year during a pandemic coming off a brutal injury, and this year. We know the back was an issue this year so I am hoping the offseason rest can get him right. Yes, this year was absolutely brutal to watch. Looked like he had zero confidence and just looked bad up there but everyone has down years. Let's just hope it picks back up. I don't think anyone expects 2018/2019 Yelich but we should at least be hoping for 2016/2017 Marlins Yelich.
  21. Okay lets pump the brakes a bit...
  22. Same. I think about this often and I get angry every time. If that’s the case, he robbed us.
