  1. I think it is safe to assume Jayden Daniels has some year 2 growing pains a la CJ Stroud (and Love) last year after impressive initial campaigns. It’s still early, and conditioning and injury volume is not ideal for us at the moment, so a loss wouldn’t stun me. But the Packers should be better than Washington, and should win.
  2. Ok, maybe McCarthy has a little something. Not a fan of that development, if he is for real. But I am all in favor of the Bear fans being let down again. That’s cool. I had waaaaaay too many of them try to talk trash to me today, of all days, after the Packers looked as good as they did yesterday. To have this game right in front of them for three quarters and then just melt for a whole quarter is very satisfying.
  3. This is the version of Jordan Love that was always going to be the missing piece.
  4. Man, football really ain’t football anymore, is it?
  5. Za'Darius Smith signed with the Eagles today. Smith inked a one-year deal after (and stop me if you've heard this story before) his former employer declined to retain his services. No doubt, Smith will find a way to claim he wanted to go to Philly so he could stick it to Green Bay again.
  6. I have a theory, duly formed: Watching games is a lot less stressful when the other team is making all the mistakes. Thanks for listening to my TED talk.
  7. I am sure they want the defensive flexibility of Mona on the bench. If they needed his glove, and moved him to defense after he started at DH, then the pitcher has to hit, and nobody wants that. So Bauers it is. The real problem is that it’s Bauers and not Hoskins.
  8. This bothered me a little bit, too, since there are really only two ways this can go, and both look silly. Firstly, if it is a major injury that will likely take whoever suffered it out for the regular season or beyond, then let's just rip the bandaid off and be out with it. But on the other hand, if it is a lesser injury that looks like it could require a minimum absence, being coy like this makes it sounds like we're just playing the IL shuffle game. And look, I'm not naive enough to argue that doesn't or even shouldn't happen under the current rules and enforcement regime by the league. But if you're going to play games with injuries, can you at least do it with a straight face and not be so cute about it?
  9. I'm with you all the way up to the part about getting caught. I definitely want my team to have to win three fewer games to get to the goal, and have a chance to give some tired bodies a little rest.
  10. There was a time, not too long ago, after a particularly miserable offensive performance in September from an otherwise strong club, that I mused out loud something along the lines of, "well, at least the brass is getting a good long look at who doesn't belong on the postseason roster." Then we all got treated to a heaping scoop of Jesse Winker in a playoff series the Brewers would ultimately lose. So I am making it very clear that I have absolutely no intention of saying any such thing this year, and will be keeping my big mouth shut.
  11. I get Frelick is still maybe balky, Yelich has a flare up, and Contreras needs to DH some this month because he’s going to be behind the plate the whole way in October. Fine, fine. But did Turang have to be out today, too? All four out is just brutal.
  12. Hate to take the bat out of the lineup but an old school guy like Murph has to be thinking about sitting Collins a game for how he played that—not smart.
  13. Durbin didn’t get that run home from third, so get ready for another week of Siegler.
  14. Yeah, this would be a really good time to find Rasul Douglas 2.0 on somebody's practice squad.
  15. Effective relief work tonight, boys. We should just take a day off before every game, that seems to do the trick.
  16. So much for that promising start. Buckle up. Three righties on tap, then the big boys, so this should be interesting.
  17. I'd assume that is the case. Koenig has been a bit shaky, but hopefully the off day did some good. Also have Zastryzny back there, I'd assume.
