  1. Bad home plate umpiring here, but it doesn’t change the fact that this bullpen is gassed and now down two important arms. Brain trust has to go to the drawing board and figure out how to get outs for two more months.
  2. I know MLB wants holiday games, but some teams got the day off. Did Milwaukee really have to be one of the teams going today at the end of an absolutely brutal stretch? The bizarre mid-series day off tomorrow almost feels like a middle finger. Just start this thing on the Tuesday.
  3. Yeah I think it’ll be a good afternoon for errands after all—and if I come back to a win, it will be a lovely surprise. But I’ll leave the house thinking this: as someone who’s done a lot of teaching and a fair bit of coaching and parenting, this is what I like to call a “your crap still stinks” day. Doesn’t do anything good for your blood pressure, but it does wonders for your ability to remind your pupils that if they are going to get where we all want to go, it’s going to still take a lot more focus and intelligence than they showed today.
  4. Well hopefully Nance doesn’t come back out next inning, because he is absolutely on point. It wasn’t like Vaughn and Collins missed any meatballs—they didn’t see any.
  5. I have errands I need to run, but I can’t tear myself away from the horror show.
  6. Oh good, it’s not just us making the blooper reel. That’s a relief at least!
  7. I don’t know if it’s that. It reads almost like they want it too much. They’re being reckless.
  8. If it was a called play, Mona just did not execute. I wonder if it was Mona freelancing, though, since he hesitated for so long and Murph was so livid in the dugout.
  9. Mona was out at home by a mile, after they tried going to second to get Turang mind you. Horrific.
  10. Hey Murph—in case you forgot where today’s gameplan on the base paths needs to get filed:
  11. This is a trash effort. They should have this game well in hand at this point. Yikes.
  12. Methinks @RightFieldCoder is not a Packers fan. On the list of suspects he goes…
  13. With Chourio back, we see the offense get both the floor (by relegating Lockridge or Perkins to the bench most days) and ceiling raised simultaneously. If the pitching holds up, we should have as good a chance as just about anybody, especially after a free pass to the divisional round.
  14. They’ll never admit it, maybe not even to themselves. But I have to imagine that Mona and Ortiz not facing competition from a trade deadline acquisition did wonders for their confidence. They’ve been so much better since.
