I still expected the D to struggle. The offense has no excuse not to have 40+ on the board right now. Last year, the D kept the team afloat a bit while the offense found its legs. Offense has to return the favor now. Do your jobs.

I need a rule clarification: is the kicker allowed to just put the ball straight down the middle on extra points? I don’t think I’ve ever seen this strategy before, so it can’t be legal.

This is just a game where if you find a way to eeke out a win you take it and get the heck out. This is ugly, no one is ready, and neither is the field, so you feel pretty good about just banking a W. We’ve seen it over and over again, the only thing that matters about week 1 is if you win or not. Everything else will change by the end of the year.

Not sure any definitive judgments can be made about a new scheme in a season opener in the southern hemisphere, but early returns are iffy. Still think this is all on the O. Three or four touchdowns already is not an unreasonable expectation, considering the circumstances of the 1st quarter.

I don’t get why the Jacobs stuff looks horrendous. But all I can think on that run call is that we’re putting tendencies on tape that we intend to break with extreme prejudice later in the season.
